I changed my babies on the floor 90% of the time. A regular changing pad is nice for hard or cold floors and wipes easy in a messy situation.

My daughter just had her 2nd baby and she struggled to afford even the $200 stroller. It’s okay to not get the most expensive things. Get what fits in your budget. There are good quality items in every price point. BTW…so excited for your growing family, Clancy!

Hi! I’m a mother of four kids. Trust me when I say don’t worry about what is on trend or what the crowd recommends. Do your research and invest in tried and true products that have been around for a long time that hold up. Check safety recalls as well with car seats and strollers.

I know you already purchased it but the biggest waste of money in my kids nursery was the glider. My hubby bought a gorgeous one for me and I thought I’d use it every night and to read stories and I totally justified the expense. I used it like 3 times! Feedings, stories, etc mostly took place in bed or on the couch! I sold my $400 chair for $20 at a yard sale 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣
The changing table was useless too…..a blanket on the floor or wherever works better especially when you’re downstairs. The only changing pad you need is a $10 one for your diaper bag although most bags come with one!
The cheap things I couldn’t live without? Gas drops, a boogie sucker and butt cream!

The one worth the splurge is a stroller, that’s where you see the biggest difference between cheap and high end. Clothes get so expensive…I allowed myself to buy one or two cute outfits in each size then found bundles on Facebook marketplace for the rest!

asher is literally the cutest thing ever 🥰 and thoughtful pregnancy gifts and the cutest dog mom t shirt from zach aww those are the cutest gifts a “dude” could ever gift 🤣🔥 and also im totally with you about not finding overly expensive baby products valuable because at the end of the day those expensive stuffs are basically feeding “consumerism” id say just look for good quality affordable products! 💛

I never used my bumbo change pad. I ended up using the floor, the bed or the couch and never had any issues. Everyone’s different though I also think it’s a lot of trial and error. Some things work for some people and some things don’t. Mamaroo for example .. both my babies loved it but when I have it to my cousin , her baby hated it. You can do as much research as possible but your baby and your experience might be totally different. I think just do what’s best for you! I got the uppababy stroller and I love it! Yet I’ve heard others say they hate it… go with your gut and buy things along the way. That’s the best advice. You may have to try five different bottles because your baby won’t like them. The only one in charge is your baby in those first couple months. 😂

How many people ever even use their changing table 😆. Just get an on the go changing pad and put it in a diaper basket in the living room and bedroom. Because that’s where you’re going to change diapers. The living room and your own bedroom in the middle of the night 😆

I never comment but seeing all the comments about not using a changing table makes me want to chime in. I have never changed my now 14 month old on anything but my hatch changing pad on his changing table. Ever. I also bought this specific changing pad because it’s also a scale. Changing table is a must for me.

Best combo is: cheapest changing pad (preferably portable) imho u dont need a table esp in the long run, mid range stroller (cheapest can be chunky and annoying to deal with, most expensive ones have unnecessary features), mid to high range car seat (i like the graci its for newborn to like 7-8 years old)

We have used our changing pad for every change since we came home. It’s what works best for us! I do recommend a wipeable one but the skip hop one ($80 but can find on sale often) works just as well as the keekaroo (which you can find gently used on marketplace!)…. The amount of times urine or poop gets on our changing pad it’s worth it to not have to worry about that sheet 😊

When you go to the hospital to deliver, take those shoes Zac bought you or another slide on shoe like that. Often after birth your legs and feet swell HUGE, especially when we need an IV (which is saline). Happened to me with all 5 deliveries, whether vaginal or c-section. With our first, my feet were fine before birth, but after birth, my husband had to run to get me men's flip flops at a drugstore just so I could leave the hospital. I couldn't get my own shoes on, and they wouldn't let me leave sans shoes lol. They go back to normal within 2 weeks.

Pregnant with my third. I didn't get that exact changing pad but a different one that was very expensive. It looks like I just got it out of the box, even after two, going on three kids. Same with my uppababy stroller. I think the expensive stuff can be worth it, just depends on how many kids you want/have. Blessings 🥰

The things that i thought were boogie but are actually helpful were a bottle warmer and a wipe warmer. The wipe warmer can dry out the wipes but i would warm them in my hand or with my breath before i had it. The bottle warmer is helpful because i dont know how many times i over warmed the formula with hot water. These items are not necessary but man are they nice.

I had no money 20 years ago when my babies were born. They did not have expensive stuff . And they turned out just fine and even got scholarships for college 😂. So you don't have to buy expensive things when they're babies!

    • @RestingBeachFace
      @RestingBeachFace Місяць тому

My opinion is that the expensive things she wants to buy are for HER convenience, not for the baby. A baby will thrive with great parenting like your kids did. Whether they have a towel on the ground for a changing pad or an expensive one. I was a poor single parent when my kids were little and we survived with thrift store stuff. But if I had money like Clancy does, I would definitely have splurged on certain things for my kids.

  • @jamieleeharrison
    @jamieleeharrison Місяць тому +1

Honestly, I didn’t listen about a lot of things that people said not to buy, and I’m here to tell you they were right!
You might do things differently- but when I was pregnant I thought I was going to be sooo organized and have everything together all the time, and that was absolutely not the case lol
I rarely even left my bed the first month after my daughter was born. We NEVER used her nursery, never used a changing table, or the changing pad. My bedroom became my fortress of solitude lol
I got a changing pad/Moses style basket for changing her in the living room, ended up only using it to lay her down on before and after baths lol

I used the changing pad only in the middle of the nights and in the morning, other wise i wouldnt walk all the way upstairs just to change the baby lol usually id put a blanket on the floor (plush carpet) and chane them there, or the couch with a blanket under them. The only thing id invest in is the carseat and stroller, and breast pumo if you go that route.

Most diaper bags come with a changing pad lol they are cheap and work just fine if you ever use it. They come in handy when you’re out and about and changing in the back seat or back of the car. Plus they clean up easy, you can just wipe them down and sanitize them when you need to

It’s definitely crazy seeing you go from being sooooo super frugal in the apartment to spending so much money since moving into the house. I know you said you show balance! So that’s a good lesson. But I agree with a ton of these moms though, my sister in laws say all the time, you don’t really need to splurge on anything but the stroller and a really safe car seat!

  • @susananderson8995

Not only do your feet hurt, the pain happens because your feet swell towards the end of pregnancy. Of course everyone is different, but your body tends to retain water more which shows in the feet and ankles. Try to sit with your feet elevated when you can to help with this. Those sandals will come in handy if your shoes feel tight.

Any changing pad that is hard (not fabric) and easy to be cleaned, is one you should consider. I couldn’t find one I liked. I got the hatch weighing changing pad and regret it so much. I never used the scale option because it was super finnacky. The companion app is amazing though! I used it to track her feedings and diapers and my pumping.
It’s worth paying for a car seat that is not heavy. I loved my nuna car seat because it was super light and babies get heavier and heavier.

There are some things you need for quality - stroller because you walk a lot outdoors, car seat for safety - but you'll be changing your baby's diapers everywhere. A safe change space is good to have but you can get safe ones that fit on top of your dresser for like $40-50. A change pad is always good, those are inexpensive and you can get a few so you can change baby downstairs or in your bedroom or on the road with less mess. Baby stuff has become so designer now it's insane!

There are only a couple of things you need to splurge on for a baby. I had a cheap changing table that was used for a while by both babies. It held up pretty well over that time. It was vinyl covered, so wiped clean easily. I also had a foldable one in another room, and one in both the diaper bag and car. Clothes I got a lot of second-hand from friends, with a few outfits I bought. They grow out of sizes pretty quickly so it's not really worth spending lots on. Strollers and car seats are the two you can splurge on. Get a stroller that's easy for you to fold, preferably one-handed, and light enough to take in and out of the car (it's not necessarily the most expensive one). Get a car seat that has a high safety rating and that you can use for a long time as they grow. Start adding a box of diapers to your grocery shop now and then, in different sizes. It takes a lot of the sticker shock away!

I bought a simple OEKO- certified changing pad (no fire retardants etc..) for around $30 that I put on top of our baby's dresser. Now that hes turned 2 and toilet trained we can still use the dresser and we don't have an extra piece of furniture to worry about.
Some things may be worth the splurge but for me it was things that would sit on his body or he would spend a lot ofv"breathing" time on so I made sure they were organic, toxic free etc.. sometimes that made them most expensive, sometimes not but it is what I decided was most important than popular or name brand.

I use my stupidly expensive changing pad all. the. time. I have twins and don’t regret it in the end - I’ll be passing it along to my sister in law soon for my nephew :) I have PCOS and it took 5 years to get pregnant so I saved the whole time and got to splurge where I wanted. Mammaroos, changing pad, insane stroller. It’s my only pregnancy so I just went for it 🤭 and now I get to pass these items along to my family too. Invest where you want to!

Yes only things you really need is a stroller ,safe car seat, and a monitor. Please don’t let anyone make you feel you have to get everything at once.

My first baby I didn’t show till I was six months. I was always so worried, and everyone would comment on how small I looked. Didn’t help. He was almost 7 lbs. second baby I was huge!

Nanny of over 30 years here…. You will not use half of the stuff they tell you that you need - save that money for childcare it’s expensive
I charge $24-$30 an hour 🤍🤍🤍 just trying to prepare you for future date nights which I highly recommend especially if you are going to be a stay at home Mom - you need to get out 🤍 The “stuff” is not needed - in fact wait for baby to come and see where you change the baby….. 10 out of 10 times you change on the floor, bed, or couch 🤍🤍🤍😘

Honestly for all 3 of my kids I never even used a changing table and I had one with my first but you don’t need to spend 100+ for a changing table when the cheap ones do the same thing 🤷‍♀️. They grow out of everything so fast too

I may be the exception but I only ever change my baby (while home) on her changing table. I also cloth diaper though and that's where all her stuff is so it's just easier.

I still use my changing pad with my 16 month old. I set it on top of her dresser in the nursery and I don’t have to bend over to wrestle her diaper on lol. But you definitely don’t need any particular brand or to spend too much money!

I went high end on most things but got them used on FB marketplace. I felt like I was getting my baby quality items but at a price point I felt comfortable with.

Changed my kid on the floor on a towel. He never stopped moving so I did not trust him up high (or my sleep deprived self to constantly monitor him). Also, the pad gets full of poo and pee so needs to be washed all the time. Super easy to throw towels in the wash. Just some easy advice ;)

My parents didn't have a fancy stroller and I survived. The point of a stroller is to not have to carry your baby everywhere or to get your kid off their feet so they'll stop crying. We had the most simple one in the world. As for a changing table, you can literally make anything into a changing table or you can just do it on a pad.

With 4 kids, I always was consistent with changing them in their room on the changing pad and they always were good about laying there because they knew why they were there. If you start changing them on the floor, beds etc, they think it’s play time and don’t hold still. Do you want to change a poopy diaper on your carpet? Nope!

I got a free changing pad & I’ve never used it 😂 I have four kids. Also, the baby swings!!! Omg nightmare. The Mamaroo or whatever, my kids HATE that thing…. Got one that’s old school from Facebook marketplace for $25 & they basically lived in that thing. Designer stuff is adorable but girl I promise you, your baby is gunna hate it 😭😂 don’t forget you can not buy some things & then when baby gets here, have it shipped overnight if it seems like something that would actually work for you!
Also to save money, you can sanitize your baby stuff on the stove or dishwasher & not buy the over priced sterilizers!

You don’t need expensive things for baby. I just remember my parents didn’t have the expensive things for me and I turned out just fine!! My diaper changes happen in the floor with a changing pad 90% of the time!!

  • @kgentile

I put my babies on the munchkin changing pad (put it on the ikea dresser) 90% of the time. So much easier than bending down to change them on the floor!
