I spent many years as a psych RN and Memory Care Coordinator. Music is at the top of the list for bringing someone back, even for a little while. I am going to keep this one forever. I could not have said it better.

🎄Tracy, the granddaughter, is the true hero of this short film (ad). She possesses a Christly love in many respects: She observes her little cousins being a bit freaked out by grandma’s catatonic state; she overhears her mother & grandfather discussing his challenges of bad days; she watches as her family maneuvers around grandma as if she’s a piece of furniture.
    & then she takes action!
She tells her grandmother: “Let’s make it a good day…”
Tracy probably doesn’t expect anything more than giving the former matriarch of her large family the gift of retaining some dignity by going on a drive around their home town in gramp’s old Chevy truck - but something magical happens…
Tracy points out various spots around town where she was born & raised, & grandma slowly starts to recognize images that conjure up old memories. The most poignant moment in this Chevy ad is when grandmother & granddaughter sit parked in an abandoned drive-in movie theater lot where it’s revealed she first kissed her husband Bill, & as she & Tracy sing along to a John Denver 8-track - the power of love & music reconnects her to this world. 🎶 “Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy / Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry…”
“Bill?” she ejaculates. “I need to see Bill! He can’t do dinner alone!”
Tracy drives home & when she pulls up front, Bill steps off the farmers porch & climbs into the truck, & then with teary eyes & trembling hands he pulls her face in for a kiss & she kisses him back.
Tracy, through a selfless & loving act, has brought her grandmother back from the underworld like a modern day Orpheus, reuniting her grandparents. Amor vincit omnia!
Sometimes the power of love can, indeed, conquer all. & that’s why Tracy is truly the hero of this story - a hero we all should emulate.
    It’s humanity’s only hope & salvation. ✝️

If I could go back in time and see my grandparents I would!!! They are alll gone now, but if I could just get a day visit with them or take them out to dinner and heart their stories when they were young, I could. I love how the young girl wants to spend time with her Grandma and take her down memory lane.❤

HE LOVED SEEING HOUSES BEING BUILT, SO WE FOUND THEM AND WATCHED INDENTLY, THEN WE ATE BURGERS IN THE CAR, AND HE WAS MORE LUCID AS WE TALKED. IT WAS THOSE RIDES WHERE I WAS WITH MY GRANDPA AGAIN! I remember when my dad died, at the reception was a guy from my dad’s old neighbourhood, the went to lower school with. He really hadn’t kept up my dad, but saw the notice in the paper and thought he would drop by. My dad died a month short of his 90th…anyway this visitor told me stories about when they were kids…and at that point I realized that I had never thought of my dad as a little boy, running around our town, exploring, getting into trouble, etc…when ‘grandma’ has the high school flash back, I thought of how we never think of the people we know, about the different stages of life they have gone through….

Excellent. Period. Sometimes commercials have a greater purpose.
Decades ago in Canada, the Bell company produced a one-minute vignette about a late-teen grandson visiting a WW2 site where his grandfather had fought and then calling his grandfather right from there just to say thanks. The Bell corporate logo only appeared for the last 5 seconds. Canadians still talk about it. I hope this Chevy commercial enjoys the same longevity.

This is why the Suburban is the greatest vehicle ever, and always will be. It represents exactly this. Think how many life-saving memories are made in them for people like this, in 90 years uninterrupted. This is a gorgeous ad, but think how often things like this happen without ending up on a TV. The memories, the music, and the people are the best part. But people overlook the car. Without it, these critical moments wouldn't happen like they do.

I graduated from high school the year this song came out, which means I just turned 70. I am nowhere near as tottering as depicted here, thank you very much. (Although there is nothing wrong with any age, or aging itself.) There were also hardly any drive-in movies left by the time I was in high school, they were sparse relics even then. So, as with all depictions of the "old," it would be interesting to know who wrote this and what they considered research. Someone who experiences regular heartwarming multi-generational (multi-blond) Christmases and can cure alzheimers with a Chevrolet, I suppose.

    • @cyndipalmer8061
      @cyndipalmer8061 7 місяців тому +3

Wow, talk about negativity. I’m not far from I’m age and I clearly remember drive-in movies. Maybe it’s the part of the country one comes from… back In Michigan they were still around in 1974. I’m sorry, but this was not a documentary but an extremely heartfelt commercial that touched so many hearts - the hearts like mine who lost a mother, grandmother or any family member to that insidious disease!

We have a friend who is barely 70 and in serious decline from Alzheimer’s. Another friend is 68 and uses a walker to a serious neurological disorder. I suggest you look at the heartfelt message of love and family instead of picking apart small details. I hope you’re not always so critical of life. Merry Christmas.

My goodness. I can’t believe your comments about a very touching commercial. Lately my husband and I are amazed by the loud and obnoxious ads we see. Often we look at each other and say “What was that commercial advertising?” By the way, we’ve been married 54 years and we went to drive-in movies on our first date and many others in the Milwaukee WI area. And….really who cares if all the depictions are 100% correct. It was a kind and gentle and rare ad that touched many people.
