Incredible, when you realize this was composed as a pitch to the studio developing the game, and that exact pitch (which you hear right now) ended up becoming the main theme of the game. And then, Jean-Francois wins an award at the CGA… Excellent work!

@@Bourikii2992 what is that referencing to haha ? Alot of studios will look at your resume/portfolio before getting you in, different styles of music are fine for what they're trying to be appropriate for. Although I do have my biases toward what is ''the better music'' I would be careful with saying that composers employed by large succesful studios are bad as we are talking about individual actors ultimately. TripleA studios have extreme talents and ressources.
First of all , these soundtracks quality goes at a far higher level than any triple A games I've ever seen , in which all soundtracks are a copy and past all equal each other. Triple A games have soundtracks of the same level as movies. In addition , Triple A games sck and most people don't care about those games , but lies are spread and advertising is massive , so they want to make it seem people have consideration of them. Triple A games are basically horrible games full of bugs , with boring and easy dynamics and full of useless cinematics , they are created by old studios which made their way long time ago. Triple A games are usually among the lowest in quality and are for occasional players , it's simply that there is not meritocracy in assigning the Triple A , what happens is that old affirmed studios receive favoritisms and advertisement , their games are screamed with high voice even if they are junk , while a very good game created by a little studio is disparaged with lies and voices of defections which do not exist. Of course all people who play videogames with a decent frequency know that well. Many rotten aspects led people to abandon videogames in the last 6-7 years and abandoned accounts speak better than the lies which are spread. Triple A is something like a Hollywood movie in the USA , they are junk with low actors which are screamed with big voice and there is a massive use of stereotypes and cheap philosophy , then if you watch those movies you find tons of defections and repetitive canons , while creativity , art , quality and originality are about not existent. This is in general , of course there are also independent videogames which are low quality and rarely there is a good Triple A game. Good videogames are rare nowadays , Outward has much potential and about some aspects is a masterpiece , but defections and thefts are too many , it's not the only one. But the soundtracks...it's an insult saying they approach the level of Triple A , it means you are underrating this composer in a truly scandalous way. I can rightfully say there are a few composers who can approach Jean-Francois Racine's talent. This composer did not create tons of cheap soundtracks like the ones you find in many many Triple A. If you want to make some good composition , it takes time , much time...it's one of those professions where "the good wine stays in the small barrel". A composer who makes tons of compositions every month is gonna enter the low quality zone and the copy and paste activity , so it has always been. If you make a few composition it's not sure they are good , but if you make many of them in a little time it's sure they all or almost they all are of cheap quality. The best composers care about quality far more than quantity , they don't take too much bargain. Most triple A game companies claim much more compositions per game and at the same time they make many games in a little time , which are uncompleted and then partially fixed with updates which create problems in the game functioning , the result is a mush of a game of horrible quality , and this comes to be counterproductive in a longer vision because people get disappointed and tired , but there is also some triple A producer which follows the right "take your time" logic. At the same time most Triple A games chose to not employ more composers because it's an expense more and because the difference in style of soundtracks between different composers is not appreciated by most players. Intelligence does not belong to everyone , and therefore the long vision-counterproductive way of "cut expenses as much as possible" practiced by many Triple A forces the composers to create very long compositions in a very little time , the copy and paste and the triviality are just an obvious consequence. To this you also add simply errors in chosing and considering the composers , so it may happen you may pick a naturally trivial composer instead of a genial one. The result of all this is that you have far much more chances of finding great compositions in not Triple A than in a Triple A where a good composition is difficult to be found. These soundtracks of Outward are also so suitable to the entire game in general , I guess the composer analyzed the game with commitment and extreme attention , this also does not happen with a Triple A games. Witnessing some attitude , I decided any possible additional reply or message will never be read.
It hasn‘t been that long since i‘ve played this game, and I find myself already getting nostalgic for this music and the feelings evoked by it. Honestly, i could kinda feel the nostalgia through this soundtrack before even touching Outward. Some music is that good, it reaches some place deep inside your being and makes you nostalgic for these very emotions you cannot describe. Maybe it‘s our imprinted sense of adventure? I dunno. It‘s awesome, that i do know.
Any time I listen to Outward OST (and especially this particular track), I get a violent urge to replay the game. The music seem to just unlock a chest storing all the great memories of adventures from within Outward, and lets them flow freely through my mind again. Thank you, mr. Racine; Your music is downright stellar and I was elated to hear that you will be returning as the composer for Outward 2. Cannot wait to be enchanted by your craft again as I adventure (or run screaming, let's be honest) through the lands of the next game.
The start reminds me of sunrise, as it goes on it becomes preparing for the day, then it becomes the first step on the journey, then it becomes a hunt for a kill, then a wind down afterwards, and then sunset.
I've just started playing this game, and realized it has a dedicated and strong community, however small. I have to attribute some of that success to you, because this is some of the most impressive and entertaining music I've heard composed for a video game
You can listen to the individual track "Hallowed Marsh" in the playlist I've made, in wich every song is separate. I'm very happy that you like the OST.
Wow. I've never owned a game that literally forces you to sit down and listen to the whole main theme before continuing the journey in Aurai. Just wow! Your music is bloody amazing!
been listening to these songs again and they instantly make me want to start a new playthrough. amazing game with amazing music, and the feeling of adventure and tranquility these tunes create are easily half of what makes Outward feel so good.
Cette composition est quasiment TROP bonne parce qu'à chaque fois que je démarre le jeu, je reste dans le menu pendant 4-5 minutes juste pour l'écouter!! J'aime surtout la partie de 1:58 à 2:34 .
I've been gaming for well over 30 years, and Outward is one of my favorite games of all time. On top of that, you've managed to also create one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time! It's absolutely amazing work.

I just bought the game and after playing it for a while I immediately went to purchase the DLCs as well all due to your amazing music. This song fits the adventurer vibe and excitement of exploration perfectly!
this song is the greatest thing I have heard in a long time. it has made to the top of my list of favorite video game songs thank you. By the way, the game is just as good as the song. if you haven't played it yet give it a try you love it !!
I've been playing through Skyrim for the first time and all the little bandit encampments I've come across remind me of the ones in Outward. I never really got far in this game because of how hard it was, but compared to Skyrim's npc fights, Outward was far more memorable. That first bandit boss to the Northeast of Cierzo was so hard and I remember kiting him forever and then finally taking him down after such a long fight. I want to get back into this game, but it's so intricate and I feel I'd have to start from scratch. That urge to play is there though...
Where is the Adventure of our age? Do we explore the already inhabited jungles? The already scanned oceans? "The microverse"? What if you don't want to look inward, but Outward? Space is all there is, and it is beyond most of our reach. Our adventurous spirit will only survive and not thrive on this digital sustenance.
I play a lot of video games but Outward is one of the best composed games ever. The music fits perfect the feeling and the situation in the game. The music and the idea behind is so special and awsome for me
Started playing this game this week and I'm in love! The soundrack is so so good! I've listened to all the tracks but I can't find the one that plays when you enter Ghost Pass (not when fighting, just roaming), did you release it somewhere?
What's the track that's used in the giant's village during negotiations to form an alliance? It sounds like a different version of the main theme and I cant find it anywhere.
Merci !!
This is actually a certified banger.
I am lead to believe that all outward songs are certified bangers.

i would never have come across this game if not for Sseth, but i certainly stayed for the music and the absurd unforgiving gameplay
Even with a small budget, the fact that they were able to create music considerably close to a triple A game speaks a lot about this game.
That's because triple A games don't put effort into anything anymore.
Music was outsourced tho
