It doesn't get any better. The lyrics are kind hearted, beautiful, hopeful innocence and that vocal from Tony is just breathtaking. This era was so much wiser than later eras. Now we don't have true love songs anymore or real music. As for the part in the rain in the chorus I'm actually gonna try it eventually who knows what kissing someone leads to now, though.

The inspiration of this song came to Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway back in the late 60's when at London Airport they met Sophie Loran walking in the rain. They lost their heart in the rain in a moment of madness!

Tony Burrows was the only person in the history of Top Of The Pops to front three seperate bands on the same show in 1970! a) Edison Lighthouse b) White Plains c) Brotherhood Of Man ~ what a guy!

It was Pete Nelson on lead vocals on "In A Moment Of Madness", not Tony Burrows who wasn't the lead singer on My baby loves lovin' either. It was Ricky Wolff singing lead on the studio recording of this song.

@@boojaboo7507 I think the poster was referring to the Top Of The Pops Appearance. That was the one where Ricky Wolff was not available, and Roger Greenaway stepped in to sing the lead on "My Baby Loves Lovin".

Good song, this. I didn't know they had other songs, I thought Let's Go To San Francisco was their only one, that was great, too.

It was Pete Nelson on lead vocals on "In A Moment Of Madness" which was first released under the name of The Flower Pot Men, not White Plains. This video was the Band's TV performance of "Let's Go to San Francisco". The studio track of this song was dubbed onto the video. Really misleading.

Neil Landon was no longer in the band when this song was recorded in February '69. Neil left for Fat Mattress in December of 1968. Ricky Wolff took over as the fourth vocalist that January.

I love this song! Back in 1995 I first heard it and because I had experienced a wish to kiss someone (but not in a rainstorm) earlier that summer, I was 19 years old, he may have punched me, I didn't understand the lyrical meaning of "In A Moment Of Madness." it's good madness. Tony Burrows had a great voice. So did the other singers. Neil Landon is very good. I've thought of covering this and many other Cook/Greenaway songs, but I don't quite have the guts for that yet. I also can't sing the kind of harmonies you hear in their songs singlehandedly.

@GoldenOldiesOn45RPM Thanks for the info :) On reading through the other comments it says that The Flowerpot Men changed their name to White Plains. I didnt know that. I was still at school when White Plains' My Baby Loves Lovin was in the charts here in the UK in early 1970 and I thought it was a first song by a brand new band, and I loved that song then and still do. I'm amazed that I'm still learning new things about my favourites acts from 40 years ago. Glad I'm on the internet, LoL.

Both an end and a new start for Flowerpot Men as they transitioned into White Plains by recording this Cook/Greenaway gem. Should have been a huge hit for the boys but sadly drifted into obscurity.

@barryxf This was the only song sung by this "touring" line up of The Flowerpot Men" . The earlier singles namely Let`s Go to San fransisco , A Walk In The Sky & Man Without A Woman/ You Can never Be Wrong were recorded by the studio by John carter & Ken lewis .

    According to Wikipedia:
The last single of the Flower Pot Men for Deram Records was composed by Roger Greenaway and was an attempt at a hit single in the style of the then popular Love Affair called "In A Moment of Madness". The single did not chart and for the next single the band's name was changed to White Plains.

Beautiful song. Interesting line-up for that time - for a start Neil Landon (the one with the awful haircut which closely resembles the one that has now become become fashionable with the younger generation) looks considerably older than Robin Shaw and Peter Nelson. As for Tony Burrows - good voice but I always thought he could just as easily have been a car salesman. Not a typical muso. Still they, and White Plains which they eventually became, had some great songs written for them. Terrific

It was Pete Nelson on lead vocals on "In A Moment Of Madness", not Tony Burrows. Ricky Wolff and Pete Nelson were the two main vocalists of White Plains. Ricky Wolff was the one who sang lead on the studio recording of "My baby loves lovin". Pete Nelson sang lead on other hits like "I've got you on my mind", "Julie do ya love me" and "When you are a king".
