I don’t see how the fact that some African countries were involved in slavery means that Britain was not responsible for their own role in slavery. The two things can be true at once. Every educated person knows that there were kingdoms in Africa that were involved in slavery. As far as I can tell the people calling for reparations are not basing it solely on slavery anyway. It seems that they are basing it on the combination of the two evils of slavery PLUS colonialism! Why not make the institutions that funded, supported and made money hand over fist doing these things pay compensation to the governments of the countries for funding specific things like education, development, infrastructure, cancelling their debt to foreign banks after being forced to tie their country’s economy to European interests etc.?

To my perspective, the compensations for slavery might had been paid in those times itself by the British through bringing societal developments and paving the way for more and more economic, societal, and cultural developments to then generations and their descendants who were claimed to be undergone for slavery. Secondly, slavery was occurred during those times and existed in different forms and territories across the Globe and it was committed if so, by not only then Britian and not all the then British citizens. There were also mighty colonial powers as well in those times and not the Europeans alone. Anyhow, slavery is slavery and it was supposed to be not happened. Whoever has committed it or is doing it should have been or should be brought before justice in my opinion. Thirdly, the point is that it has occurred at least more than half a century before and committed by then generations doesn’t mean that the present generations is liable for each and every wrong-doings done by earlier generations. It depends upon who did it, whether it is by certain individuals or a group. Comprehensively, if a nation alone is kept on target for all those evil acts means the motives of those who promote the agenda is well understood. And, primarily and fairly thinking, those who claim for the compensation for slavery belongs to then generations or not, their present economic and social affluence as well, and do they need it as well by the current generations of the accused nation. Ultimately, it is a collective responsibility to tackle the damages caused by the effects of slavery and of all those who were believed to be involved in the slavery and the contributions from those who were believed to be involved should also be proportionate moreover it should be based on who deserves the compensation and whether it had been compensated or not does matters. Lastly, topic of slavery comes up and the focus over the topic alone and ignoring other important topics as well with regard to the relevance of the topic corresponding to the times it had occurred reveals the motives of those who promotes it. Let there be a fair and comprehensive justice system to tackle these types of menaces.
