Thanks very much. Hopefully this little target will get a bit more love, especially with some longer focal length telescopes. Thanks for checking out the video. Clear skies.
Thanks very much Stewart (apologies if that's not how you spell your name). There are a lot of things lurking out there yet to be imaged or even discovered so I think we all will have plenty of objects to point our scopes at for a long time ( unless all the private satellite companies take over the night sky).
@@LogansAstro that’s exactly how mine is spelt most people spell it the other way 👍 Yes I plan on finding some hidden gems this year to image rather than the norms
Fantastic work - it might not be a new discovery, but it effectively is to us amateurs! expect a wave of others imaging this in the near future. I'm going to have a go with my Meade 8" but I expect it will barely show any detail without something bigger.
Thanks very much. Yes I know exactly what you mean - it definitely felt like a new discovery for me and I do hope others image it as it's quite a cool target. Will be keen to see what you get with your 8" Meade. It might be fairly similar in size to mine as I have a Optec Lepus 0.62 focal reducer on my Mead 10" which probably brings it down close to your 8". Also, my image was cropped so I think you've got a great chance of getting a descent image of it.
Well that's not a target I've heard of or seen before so well done for capturing it, love the jaws references to maybe use the line we're gonna need a bigger boat & change it to scope lol. Both outstanding images mate clear skies
Haha thanks Tich. Yes, the same words went through my head as well and I definitely wish I had a bigger scope to really image Jaws in greater detail. Alas, I don't have a half million dollar Planewave lying around 🤣
Excellent video Logan, I love the fighting dragons and your little discovery is amazing mate! Definitely put it up for an Apod 😀They love these kind of images, especially with a hidden barely known surprise! Great work mate, keep it up, you always come up with something interesting 😀 Clear skies!
Thanks Simon. It certainly made imaging the Dragons for third time a lot more interesting this time around. And itwas nice to learn about a unique target despite is size. Clear skies
Certainly a case of 'we're gonna need a bigger scope'! Lol! Excellent find and a fascinating video, Logan...congrats and awesome job on the Dragons! Really enjoyed the All-sky time-lapse too...nice to see your southern skies/stars...have a great day, mate! :)
Thanks a lot Steve. Always fun to discover things I've never heard of before and yes, I'm definitely gonna need a bigger scope. The Allsky camera seems to be working well and providing some nice timelapses of the Milky Way (faint as it is in my Bortle 5 to 6 skies). Clear skies.
Love all this… Such an interesting story Logan, TBH it’s this sort of imaging that motivates the rest of us to carry on after waiting weeks/months for clear skies… It’s a beautiful result and, I agree, it looks exactly like the jaws of a shark… A definite contender for IOTD Congratulations 👍🏻
Thanks Olly, I'm glad to hear you are in sync with the joy of finding the little gems in the bigger picture. I've found myself wandering off the beaten trail more and more these days to try and image rarely imaged targets and whilst there is some risk to potentially spending a lot of hours on something with little reward, when it's successful, the reward feels that much greater.
Thanks Avanteesh. Yes I suspect there are little gems all over the place hiding in the background of out images of much larger targets. I went back to my 2021 and 2020 images at the Dragons and sure enough, those little guys were there as well, if not so well defined.
Very interesting Logan I think your our Southern Hemisphere Sherlock Holmes. Lovely looking final image by the way. I think this is a target that I never get bored of.
Thanks Ollie. Yeah, the Dragons are definitely worth coming back to year after year an although I was initially reluctant to image them yet again, I think this one is a significant improvement on my previous attempts. Plus it came with a little sharky bonus.
I had a look at some of my older dragon wide shots and sure enough the shark's mouth is just visible but not the planetary nebula, I wouldn't be surprised if I cloned them out. I'll now have a look again in a week's time for the original data and hopefully a few clear nights when school holidays start I might even do a mosaic of the area with the TS 130 and see what it reveals, thanks Logan you never fail to impress and educate.
Thanks Nik. A few people on Astrobin did the same thing and went back to their previous images of the Dragons and sure enough, it was hiding down there in the corner. Did the same thing myself with my 2021 and 2020 versions and found it there too. Will be keen to see your result with the TS 130. Clear skies.
Hi Logan. Brilliant images! Thanks for diving into the details of the 'jaws' nebula. Im looking at getting an askar 65phq. Where did you score your risers from to elevate it slightly? Id like to get an EAF with mine too.
Thanks Samuel. I got the risers from Testar in Australia. Strictly speaking you can just rotate the telescope so that it's upside down and attach the EAF without worrying about it hitting the mount or plate if you don't want to worry about getting the risers.
@LogansAstro thanks for that. I did some hunting. I believe they are the prima luce brand, does that ring a bell? Further are they the 30mm high ones? Sorry to be painful and thanks again
So, clone stamp is like a compressed air tank and a M1 Garand Rifle? lol. That's an awesome shot Logan. Nothing beats making a discovery in your own image.
Thanks James. Yeah gotta be careful with that clone stamp.... could cause injury. Hopefully The Jaws Nebula name will stick (assuming anyone else is silly enough, like me, to image it 😅).
Hey there Logan! We found your videos to be super inspiring and we'd love to offer you a collaboration! Is there a possibility that you may be interested?
Excellent shot and great description as I too see a set of Sharks Jaws..
Thanks very much David. CS
A good inspiration for a new target, a fun video. Thank you
Thanks very much. Hopefully this little target will get a bit more love, especially with some longer focal length telescopes. Thanks for checking out the video. Clear skies.
Beautiful image! Good detective work, Logan. Sometimes,it’s the little things in life….
Thanks David. Yes totally agree on the little things in life. Clear skies.
So awesome, and well done!! Congratulations!
Thanks very much. Got two birds with one stone 😅
Beautiful image Logan, keep up the good work
Thanks very much Isaac. Clear skies

Stunning images Logan, you got some lovely details there. Great editing as usual, Clear skies mate
Cheers Glenn. I'm very pleased with how the Askar 65 is performing and can't wait to get it up to some darker skies. Clear skies

Fantastic, Logan! Glad you weren't too trigger happy with CloneStamp. Awesome processing job. Bravo!

amazing work Logan! Those little structures were so fascinating. Didnt realise there is soo much more to see!

Great image Logan, it does look like shark's jaw. Hope you get some more clear skies.

Thanks Steven. The Dragons are always a favorite to image each year.
