That's one of the wonderful things about Buddleias - the butterflies just love them...., and will go to incredible lengths to find and feed on them.
We don't know if you've caught it yet, but last Fall we posted this video entitled "Behind Scenes View Of 30+ Exceptional Plants To L👀k For At Partnering Garden Centers This Year": ua-cam.com/video/ygD2wS2cHos/v-deo.html and around the 6 minute mark you will hear David describe how somehow (within minutes) he was amazed to see how butterflies successfully navigated all the metal structures and ventilation vents of a greenhouse, to find the recently re-located plants that we just set down.
Also, have you subscribed to our channel?
If you haven't, you might like to think about it, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), you will find that they will turn up automatically in your feed.
And, as you find our videos helpful, it would be great if you could kindly share the links with your friends and click the "like" button too, because that will help other people find out about the information as well.
And, now that we have entered the main planting season (spring through late Fall) try to visit our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/.
They are located all over our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region, and that's where you will find all sorts of beautiful, tried and true and cutting edge, top performing selections, so be sure to stop in regularly throughout the seasons because there will be a steady stream of fresh shipments coming in weekly.

I forgot to add that I am in Zone 6b in Pennsylvania and I would like the buddleia to grow to at least the height of my 6 foot fence and higher and I am an avid gardener who will take very good care of the plant.

      Christine,
Here is a link to our website that will show you pictures and details of over 30 different varieties of Butterfly bushes we grow: grownbyoverdevest.com/splant/?_sfm_genus=Buddleia
When you scroll down you will find all the details including heights and spread.
They are all very good and will grow well in PA Zone 6b and the neat thing about buddleias is that since they flower on new growth, they respond well to pruning and can be shaped for the position. So if (for instance) you wanted them to be tall and thin, you just keep pruning back the side growths and re-directing the growth upwards,
We all have our favorites, but I am very fond of the old variety Buddleia Black Knight. here's a link to a video that will give you the scoop: ua-cam.com/video/Gak76BdclIc/v-deo.html
Then when you are looking for a source, here's a link that will show you where all the garden centers that stock our plants are located: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/
Just know that we usually ship most of our plants when they are in flower (so you can see the flowers & smell them too), so it might be a few weeks until they are in stock. But, if you talk to the folks at the garden centers they might be able to reserve them for you or let you know when they come in.

I have a space in full sun in the corner of my garden, where it can get breezy. I am looking for a more upright form of buddleia bush.
Can you recommend a variety that is more upright than wide?
Many thanks for a very informative video.

      Christine,
      Thanks for your nice comment.
I replied to your question in the other comment box, but in case it doesn't get through to you and you only see this one - here is the gist of what I was describing again:

As you probably heard in our video, this is a compact growing variety that doesn't put on a lot of tall, strong growth like many of the older varieties. Here at the nursery and again in the video, you will see that we put a special emphasis on manicuring our plants so that they are fat and bushy with lots of shoots which are now developing and why you are getting lots of flowers. The objective of any recently planted specimen is to get it to establish a strong, extensive root system and hopefully this is what your plant is doing. So it may not be putting on much top growth but under the ground it is probably growing vigorously and making a root system that will support a healthy and beautiful plant in years to come.
Just make sure that it has (at least) decent drainage - Butterfly bushes do not like wet conditions. Then early next spring before growth begins, prune it hard (back to 6-9 inches!) and that will encourage it to grow out and make fresh, vigorous growth that will carry even more flowers next year.
Finally, stay tuned, because I intend to make a video that will show you how to prune them in spring.

That's too bad, mistakes happen. There's a lot to be said for selecting plants when they are in flower at the garden centers. That's why we, together with our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ try to have them in flower and looking near their peak in these retail centers. That way, you can see exactly what they are like!
Even with all the pictures, videos, descriptions etc. there's nothing quite like seeing them right there!

A awful plant to promote no matter if the claim is "non-invasive."
It interfers with the natural life cycle of many of our native birds and butterflies and in no way should ever be promoted on this side of the pond.
Monarchs and other native butterflies don't use this species to lay their young.
There's lots of natives to choose from.

      Thank you for your comment.
As you may have noticed, we grow and supply through our network of partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ several pretty natives for planting in our gardens including some that are valuable larval hosts, and we leave it to the butterflies and pollinating insects to decide which plants to visit and sip the nectar.
