    An outstanding lineup of entertainers gathered in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall to salute Dave Chappelle, recipient of the 22nd annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on October 27, 2019. The Prize, which is named to honor one of the world’s greatest humorists, was given at a gala performance featuring some of the biggest names in comedy.
    www.kennedy-center.org/pages/...
    Dave Chappelle is an internationally recognized stand-up comedian and actor whose trademark wit and sharp, irreverent social commentary explores race, popular culture, sex, drugs, politics, and fame. Arguably the most-touring comic on the circuit, Chappelle has performed more than 1,600 concerts worldwide in the past four years, selling out shows within minutes of their announcements.
    Dave Chappelle could always make people laugh. Once he realized the power of his natural talent, he set some ambitious goals for his art. As a 14-year-old student at Washington, D.C.'s Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Chappelle crafted his stand-up comedy act out of the realities of his life growing up Black in the nation's capital.
    ABOUT THE MARK TWAIN PRIZE
    The Mark Twain Prize recognizes people who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th century novelist and essayist best known as Mark Twain. As a social commentator, satirist and creator of memorable characters, Samuel Clemens was a fearless observer of society, who startled and outraged many while delighting and informing many more with his uncompromising perspective of social injustice and personal folly. He revealed the great truth of humor when he said "against the assault of laughter nothing can stand."
    The inaugural Mark Twain Prize was presented to Richard Pryor during the first annual Kennedy Center Celebration of American Humor, October 20, 1998. The event was created by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Bob Kaminsky, Peter Kaminsky, Mark Krantz, and John Schreiber and is televised annually. The Kennedy Center is grateful to Cappy McGarr for his steadfast support of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor since its inception. Previous recipients of the Mark Twain include Richard Pryor (1998), Jonathan Winters (1999), Carl Reiner (2000), Whoopi Goldberg (2001), Bob Newhart (2002), Lily Tomlin (2003), Lorne Michaels (2004), Steve Martin (2005), Neil Simon (2006), Billy Crystal (2007), George Carlin (2008), Bill Cosby (2009, rescinded in 2018) Tina Fey (2010), Will Ferrell (2011), Ellen DeGeneres (2012), Carol Burnett (2013) Jay Leno (2014), Eddie Murphy (2015), Bill Murray (2016), David Letterman (2017), and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (2018).

    Live life loud! Nobody is promised tomorrow, or that they won't get busted all to hell in a wreck having to suffer the remainder of your years in pain stuck at home. The latter happened to me. But I had 15 years of great memories with the best friends you could have. I'm the only one left, but I'm always smiling from beautiful memories. We always went so hard I didn't see a film or TV show the entire 15 years.

    Dave is the nicest celebrity I have ever met. Here is my story meeting him -
    Me and 2 other friends were bar hopping around hollywood and decided to head to a fancy upscale hotel and grab a few drinks. We get to the small hotel bar and there were only 4 stools and about 15 people eating at a few small tables. We grab a drink at the bar and I turn around and accidentally bump into Dave Chappelle, he apologizes and continues on his way.
    At this point I am absolutely stoked… I just touched Dave’s shoulder. Right after this we decide to grab a table and get some food. After eating for about 20 minutes Dave comes back and sits at the bar with his friend. My one friend chimes in and claims, “You should perform magic for the entire bar.” I say “There is a possible reality that I do magic for the entire bar… but that is about one in a million.”
    The moment I say that my friend, Macon, goes to the table right next to us and proclaims, “There is a magic show happening. Do you guys want to watch?” They say, “YES” and slide over to our table. He goes to the next group. They join our table as well. Macon asks two more groups to turn around and face us. He then goes over to Dave Chappelle and asks him if he wants to join the Magic Show.
    At this point we have Dave and about 14 other people in this tiny bar and I’m on the spot. I stand up and kick things right off. Dave Chappelle grabs my Rubik’s Cube and starts to mix it up and has the entire room laughing their butts off. He heckled me a few times in the middle of my set.. But when Dave Chappelle heckles.. You let him do it.
    After about 20 minutes of me performing my heart out. Everyone gives a wonderful applause and Dave starts asking about who inspired me, how i create tricks, where I perform at, if I do private parties and another 20 questions. It was honestly one of the coolest experiences of my entire life.
    20 Years spent learning magic and practicing tens of thousands of hours.. Sometimes I reach points where I feel stuck and not sure how to continue with my career.
    Getting to perform my act for one of my idols was such an amazing privilege. Moving to LA I got distracted. I started focusing on numbers and what other people were doing. I forgot why I started doing all this in the first place. Because I LOVE IT!!!! Thank you Dave for reigniting my spark and my Love for my art.

    • @assmane999
      @assmane999 4 роки тому +10

      David C that was an easy bounce-back. The general consensus was what he did was not deserving of having his career destroyed. Even one of the women that was a big part of the me too movement cleared him of any wrong-doing

    • @krisjohnston5569
      @krisjohnston5569 4 роки тому +9

      It wasn't a false accusation, he confirmed the story.
      The general consensus though was a guy taking a girl on a date, the girl liking him, going back to his house after the date, getting the guy to go down on her and then being upset that he wanted her to go down on him is not a big deal

    • @assmane999
      @assmane999 4 роки тому +1

      kris johnston yeah exactly. I didn’t say it was a false accusation just that he didn’t do something so horrible his career should be destroyed.
