I just saw this tree in person about a month or so ago in Atlanta at the Botanical Gardens for their bonsai festival. Seeing this beautiful specimen is what had made me pull the trigger and start my bonsai journey. It's doing great and looks amazing. I think it's in good hands Ryan!
He went to the Philippines in early 1990 visit. And taught us the upside down grape tree bonsai, fast wiring, split in half tree, bonsai ICU rehab, Jin and Shari, etc. Small crowd, most are Philippine bonsai champions. But I was lucky to be part of the seminar as a beginner then.
An incredible journey you have with Bonsai, such a gift. Thank you for sharing. I have 1 Ginseng Ficus to start with and my fear has now shifted to inspiration. 🙏
A ton of history on this video. A lot of history on this tree. It’s what makes the tree (apart from its appearance) beautiful and more special. Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing
Even if this is an older video, I just barely seen this. You done a fantastic job of honoring him 👏 and you just keep inspiring me to do my very best. Thank you.
Ryan’s designs are pushing boundaries and I think it comes from such a great platform of students driving it and hungry for knowledge. I have to say Mr Kimura himself would respect just how good you have become, and no doubt you are at the very peak of bonsai design in the modern world. This design and container are superb. Ben clearly had a special eye and his investment of time into Ryan has pushed bonsai to a new level. Great respect to you both and the project
Hello Ryan. Very awesome way that you carry on the design on the tree and knowing the way Ben would have design this tree. Hope it lives on for the next 100 years. Ryan I think Ben is smiling up in Heaven and I bet he working in God's Nursery help out Those awesome BONSAI TREES in Heaven. Ryan take care on God Bless you and Family. PS also your Bonsai Nursery. The Bonsai, absolutely stunning. The story, absolutely heart felt. The cause, absolutely admirable. Wished I had that opportunity with the scholarship 34 years ago (I'm currently 42).
My word... that tree really speaks as an ambassador for Bonsai , that blade is like wave with Mount Fuji by its side. Absolute enchantment for the eye and mind .
Hello, I would like to know that do we need to collect such big trunk trees from wild forest or can we make trees of young ones to enlarge their trunks at this point.
You will never likely in your lifetime be able to grow a tree with that much character, size, ect. Unless you find driftwood or a dead tree and create something called a tanuki or Phoenix graft. It is possible to develop impressive bonsai in your lifetime but size and age you cannot do without time. Finding yamadori can be done in the urban landscape or wild but it should be approached with respect and responsibility. In countries like Japan it may be illegal to collect wild trees and in places like Indonesia wild trees have been collected to the detriment of habitat loss.
i really dont like what he did with the foliage and branches this could have been THE PERFECT wind blowing look bonsai or even a dam good cascade what the hell was those branch wirings and the messy spread out foliage
What a great video, thanks from the UK

Bonsai in America does not pass down to generation but it to sell or donated for profit.
Hi
12:30 plants have genders?
Not all but lots of them do. Sometimes gender identification can be as easy as does the tree have berries or pinecones. You can see a berry at 11:54
imagine making this thing look like a tidal wave or a spiral
dam his styling to it was terrible
i really dont like what he did with the foliage and branches
this could have been THE PERFECT wind blowing look bonsai
or even a dam good cascade
what the hell was those branch wirings and the messy spread out foliage
