I never felt comfortable overtaking cars from left side even though I am Indonesians myself. I'm much prefer from right side. Just a tips never overtake truck from left side because that's accident waiting to happen lots of people died because they tried overtake truck from left side and loose balance and then they fall from their bikes and into underneath of the truck and get crushed by truck rear tyres. That's the only tips i can give to you sir.

But just my two cents though, you don't need to compare Yamaha Xmax to Sym GTS, Kymco Downtown, or Suzuki Burgman (even the 200cc Burgman) in the first place. It's totally different soul. Xmax is a sports bike pretending to be a maxi scoot. You will never experience the true comfort of Maxi Scooter with Xmax. It's a descendant of a TMax. A Sports scooter. Well, actually, it's a kind of mix personality. It can not decide either it's a maxi scooter or a sports bike. But the TMax is a very good close to perfect combination between a scooter and a fast bike. There you have it for TMax. The problem for Xmax, well................ not that fast, and very inferior compare to other beginner maxi scoot in comfortable area. Plus, Xmax design is mediocre. For GTS and Downtown, I agree with @bule doyan motor. ABS is important. Shit happen! Even an experienced biker sometimes could lose concentration and fuck up. At least ABS increase the chance of survival. Traction control? seriously? Only idiot riding a big scooter fast when puddle all over the place. I am more worry with sudden side wind impact riding a Max Scoot. Not as heavy as a Harley to stand the wind, and damn wide side body like an elephant with less area for wind to escape.
Super Basi price tag in Indonesia doesn't really reflect quality, the taxes on imported bikes are killing our moods lol, the Downtown 250 is just 2 years late to appear on our market, and for price tag reason, Kymco Indonesia decided to import a non ABS version to avoid a higher price, just like SYM did with the GTS 250, we can't compare the Yamaha X-max 250 with SYM and Kymco as it is far away in terms of comfort, it is the reason why i just compared the Downtown only with the SYM GTS 250 its only competitor in Indonesia, but wait the CruiSym 300 is coming soon 😉 and the Kymco AK55 as well 😎, the Downtown 250 passed the lateral wind test for me on the toll road over the sea, its design make a good aerodynamic maxi-scooter cutting through big wind for a maximum comfort and secure ride.

If Xmax home base is thailand, it will have the same story with Kymco or SYM, being imported to Indonesia. Engine wise, no need to worry with both brand. Design wise, it is a subjective matter. You should consider about after sales and maintenance. That's all. Kymco run away and abandon Indonesia once. Sym, well, this is their first entry to INA and they are still here.
i'm a SYM user for 2 years now, first using the Sym Shark, love it a lot, and for the last 6 months, i upgrade my ride using the GTS250i evo. the Downtown seems pretty handsome, love the design, but if i sell my SYM for 30m idr and bought the downtown for around 70m IDR, is it really worth it? :D
Lol. If you want my honest answer, I love the design and quality of downtown. I am all around biker, I love scooter as much as I love other bike. I still keep a black trend sr, an old ugly grand dink, a GTS 2012 and Maxsym, that's all my pure breed "Taiwanesee" scoot. Other than that mostly american muscle, briton bike, and Italian scoot (well now made in Taiwan too actually). Frankly, I don't have a downtown, but tried it a couple of times for a long ride from Singapore to Penang with my friend. We swap bike during our little journey. More or less half the trip (450km) I ride the downton. It was the similar feeling you have while riding a GTS in a long journey. Enjoy and comfort. Not as comfort as bigger cc scoot, but still you know it, the familiar feeling. The enjoyment is there. That’s all I can say. I don’t purchase downtown for a very simple reason, I lost my appetite the moment I open the trunk. When you open GTS trunk, you know there is this carpet, not the best carpet mat, but it is there. On downtown, none. Same thing, I lost the interest with aprilia atlantis just because it has no carpet mat cover for the trunk. Worth it or not, of course it is worth it. It is a very good scooter, great maneuverability for daily drive in Jakarta. The same like GTS, only better looks. For an old man like me (61 young or old?), the one that can save my back pain and fulfill my love for the road are maxi scooter. My son can ride the Harley or triumph all he want, but he never dare to touch what he refer as “three wisdom guy”, my GTS, Maxsym and the old Grand Dink. I can go fucking nuts. By the way, if you have a GTS, you can discuss about this Downtown VS GTS with SYMCI kudos right? There is this guy name Andy, he was the Shark Hero. Always riding shark for touring, now he upgraded to maxsym. And this young guy name Egy, he knows a lot about maxi scooter.
such a shame they remove the ABS hahaha. they also cut the displacement 70cc (Downtown 350 actually have 320cc). and its still and expensive bike compared to Xmax. I don't think a lot of people will bought it. I hate the old version of downtown (200cc in Indonesia) because its too cramped for me. but new one fits me perfectly. i have similar height with you.

When i rent xmax 300, i thought the rental place put 100psi tyre pressure and the stiffest suspension setting. later i figured it out, even on the softest setting and 29psi rear tyre pressure. The ride is still awful, i think riding xmax over 50km will break my back. I feel Xmax seat also contributes to that problem as well. hahaha
