But I think our form which was good in the first half of the year, has dissipated and we've been found out thorugh lack of talent.

Waterman has gone from borderline fringe player to currently fith in the Coleman medal race ahead of Josh Treacy, Jeremy Cameron and Joe Daniher. Put a fit Oscar Allen next to him and it is a very good one-two punch. Harley Reid has a "bad" game with 20 touches, four clearances and four tackles. I have seen comments criticizing his body language. That demonstrates to me that he cares and takes losing personally. The kid is not even 20, if that is typical of his "down" days for the next decade then it is a pretty good problem to have.
JWilliams is a kid and it didn't hurt him playing ressies. You could say that the Eagles have treated him really well and he's playing with great confidence. With the Eagles getting thumped in the AFL it is hard for a young forward. Playng for ressies can be a good thing. I thought without Darling there was no defensive pressure in the Eagles forward line at all. There were plenty of small forwards there, how come no one was able to tackle and create defensive pressure. You only had Allen and Williams there as talls.

i think Bailey Williams is our only real trade value to be fair, with Jack Williams coming through, Harry Barnett in the 2s slowly developing and Flynn our #1 ruck, Bailey isnt giving us much. If were still going to target Tim English, i dont see the point in having Bailey either, he just doesnt get the footy up forward

I reply that we sacked Simpson last week then vaguely summarise 2022-23 in one text then say how we're searching for coach and should have one before the trade and draft period (Love you mum just a funny situation)

But they're still lacking talent, players are lacking resilience... Next two years will be tough as the older and better players move. But it shouldn't surprise anyone that a team full of older players and kids would struggle to play out the season. Still guys there are playing for their careers now.

There is a good chance that there will be a coaching carousel. 2 years of thumping losses and having the West put the new coach's head on a monkey photoshopped, and constant speculation for sources will be enough for the coach to quit or be shown th door. Players I saw burn each other was petch and Kelly not giving off to Reid. Players that I can really tell are playing for a contract. If we had more depth Kelly would be dropped 100%. Cripps likes most half forwards has good and bad games. How was Ryan do you think? Ledwards - the club loves him but he just hasn't performed and needs to be considered as a tagger or defensive half forward... Or he'll be delisted. BWilliams trying hard and probably needs a break. Its hard being a leaping ruckman and he's young. I thought our defensive pressure was poor in forwardline..

I'd say most of the supporters were expecting or predicting a loss, I know I was, but again I was expecting the bare minimum to be 100% EFFORT. The contrast between us and a side like Richmond is so damning, they have been absolutely crucified with injuries, with a new coach and a very average list. I watched their game against Port Adelaide and what happened? they competed and had effort, and were right with a decent side for 80% of the game losing out on pure talent. Our list is the worst in the AFL and we need to get rid of the blokes with shit attitude and consistent poor efforts.
getting rid of players wont make the list better. It will make it worse. Certainly we can pick up some guys around pick 70 in the draft. But based on recent times, I'm not confident they'll be any good. We only have 3 picks in the first four rounds next year.

It would be a poisoned chalice. The rot set in 5 years ago with poor recruitment, player management, and acceptability of performance and cultural standards. They have very big problems and will not attract or retain talent at this rate.
Eagles will be bottoming out in 2025 and maybe even 2026. We will be losing up to eleven of our veterans in that period, and they are amongst our better players. Also includes guys like McGovern Kelly Barrass Duggan Cripps Darling Gaff Yeo Hunt Sheed Ryan... The kids have only been there for 1-3 years. It was just outstanding coaching from Simmo and coaches to get the young guys so positive at the beginning of the year. But paper can only cover so many cracks.
West Coast lost the first four games not surprisingly and have now lost 11 of the last 12 matches. With a percentage of 68.1% and North Melbourne & Richmond still can't catch us. Last year North Melbourne lost 20 games in a row during the season out of 23 games and West Coast got the wooden spoon.
Serious question can we win another game this season. Liam Ryan will be gone for 3 atleast 2. No Tribunal turnaround on that. Possibly the best optimism is a higher Draft pick. Maybe North and Tigers are thinking the same a Mexican standoff for a higher pick.😅
higher draft pick isn't really a positive this year. Its a very even draft with no standouts. In fact it will be hard to trade pick 3 for multiple first round picks unfortunately.
3 wins under Simmo was pretty good. Many people thought we mightn't win a game this season. Next year will be tough as our players age. Then in 2026 we will see the green shoots, sure our better players will have retired or be moving out but our youngsters would have been in the system for 3 years and may be improving. Also, we will have a new coach next year and it will take a year or so for our players to get used to it.
North won't tank. Would have "rested" players for "minor ailments" in the final round against the Suns last year if that was the mindset. I doubt Richmond would either tbh.
If Witherden was in defence then he deserves some respect. It would have been almost impossible back there. Certainly having Ginbey and Hunt playing in defence with Hough, isn't a good sign for Rotham Jones or Witherden.

Nothing to gain from a wooden spoon this year. The top 5 candidates are all basically neck-and-neck. You might argue that the higher second round pick is worth more if you come last but even then, depth is even too apparently

They need multiple midfield depth and talent. Guys that can play 150 games and then mix that with elite talent through the next few drafts.

Sacking Simmo won't change anything. It just provides a sugar fix for a week or so. He is a good coach and got the guys up and about in the first half of the year, with the kids enthusiastic. But you can't paper over the cracks for ever. We've hit the wall. Guys have got tired and their game plan has been found out. They're starting to turn into a rabble again. The guys will just play out the year and there could be some massive thumpings. Morale will be down.

We got all new staff about 2-3 years ago. There was a coaching cleanout and more development coaches brought in. Where have you been. Also been new fitness, list management etc.
Rotham would have provided coverage should they lose one of the talls. In this match they only had two tall defenders, one ruckman, and two tall forwards. The rest were mid or small sized. That's why. Also, in a time where players are lacking enthusiasm you know that he will always put in. When rebuilding we need to pick guys that play with passion and desperation. Otherwise it just sends a message of giving games to kids.
Eagles should have been more defensive minded in attack and across the middle. Sure, the team lacked a pace. Speedsters Hunt and Ginbey were off half back and not running through the middle. Really we went shorter in attack, so there was no excuse for the smaller player not to pressurise. Perhaps we actually saw the impact of a team with no Jack Darling, who does the one percenters with defensive pressure in attack.
I think they’re a show to win more. No one wants the embarrassment of the wooden spoon. They go to tallies you do realise… st Kilda’s room stinks with a staggering 27 of them. Richmond for such a successful team has a decent amount of them. To go from multiple premiers to wooden spoon is an indication of how Richmond haven’t changed fundamentally since their last spoon in 07. Meanwhile, as Geelong refuse to drop down the ladder, the softest breeze made Richmond crash. I wouldn’t be boasting about it buddy.

English is likely staying at the dogs, baker is gonna be interesting. We do have the advantage of being his childhood team, but we won't have the capital without trading players or splitting the 1st pick. And splitting the first pick might be a mistake if we can't end up with a pick still in the top 10 as well as baker.

Clay Hall isn't ready. He is only 18, what's the rush. I'm disappointd they removed Clark last year when he really gave his all. Culley basically will have to be a half forward or half back due to lack of pace. Maric needs time and possibly will end up down back. But he has had an average year this year to be honest. Hutchinson is lucky to be playing, but I think they want to give him exposure and hopefully his ball handling will improve after a full preseason. He is a bit fumbling. Any midfielder in the draft won't be really any good until 2028. Kelly has had knee and hip issues and not able to train fully.

To be fair to Reid, that's his style of play and he's only in his first year. He thrives on the physical challenge, though may burn up too much energy. If opposition are focused on him it creates opportunitis for other players too. Its just that we don't have anyone to take advantage of it.
We will be like this in 2024 and 2025... and hopefully start improving 2026. Simmo did an outstanding job to get those three wins and a number of close encounters. But we were playing above our talent in those games.

Eagles will be bottoming out in 2025 and maybe even 2026. We will be losing up to eleven of our veterans in that period, and they are amongst our better players. Also includes guys like McGovern Kelly Barrass Duggan Cripps Darling Gaff Yeo Hunt Sheed Ryan... The kids have only been there for 1-3 years. It was just outstanding coaching from Simmo and coaches to get the young guys so positive at the beginning of the year. But paper can only cover so many cracks.

West Coast lost the first four games not surprisingly and have now lost 11 of the last 12 matches. With a percentage of 68.1% and North Melbourne & Richmond still can't catch us. Last year North Melbourne lost 20 games in a row during the season out of 23 games and West Coast got the wooden spoon.

higher draft pick isn't really a positive this year. Its a very even draft with no standouts. In fact it will be hard to trade pick 3 for multiple first round picks unfortunately.
3 wins under Simmo was pretty good. Many people thought we mightn't win a game this season. Next year will be tough as our players age. Then in 2026 we will see the green shoots, sure our better players will have retired or be moving out but our youngsters would have been in the system for 3 years and may be improving. Also, we will have a new coach next year and it will take a year or so for our players to get used to it.
North won't tank. Would have "rested" players for "minor ailments" in the final round against the Suns last year if that was the mindset. I doubt Richmond would either tbh.
Witherton is worse than Tom Swift
Tom Swift's hairstyle was worse. Remember the palm tree hair style he rocked for a while.
If Witherden was in defence then he deserves some respect. It would have been almost impossible back there. Certainly having Ginbey and Hunt playing in defence with Hough, isn't a good sign for Rotham Jones or Witherden.

They need multiple midfield depth and talent. Guys that can play 150 games and then mix that with elite talent through the next few drafts.

Sacking Simmo won't change anything. It just provides a sugar fix for a week or so. He is a good coach and got the guys up and about in the first half of the year, with the kids enthusiastic. But you can't paper over the cracks for ever. We've hit the wall. Guys have got tired and their game plan has been found out. They're starting to turn into a rabble again. The guys will just play out the year and there could be some massive thumpings. Morale will be down.

We got all new staff about 2-3 years ago. There was a coaching cleanout and more development coaches brought in. Where have you been. Also been new fitness, list management etc.
Rotham would have provided coverage should they lose one of the talls. In this match they only had two tall defenders, one ruckman, and two tall forwards. The rest were mid or small sized. That's why. Also, in a time where players are lacking enthusiasm you know that he will always put in. When rebuilding we need to pick guys that play with passion and desperation. Otherwise it just sends a message of giving games to kids.
Eagles should have been more defensive minded in attack and across the middle. Sure, the team lacked a pace. Speedsters Hunt and Ginbey were off half back and not running through the middle. Really we went shorter in attack, so there was no excuse for the smaller player not to pressurise. Perhaps we actually saw the impact of a team with no Jack Darling, who does the one percenters with defensive pressure in attack.

I think they’re a show to win more. No one wants the embarrassment of the wooden spoon. They go to tallies you do realise… st Kilda’s room stinks with a staggering 27 of them. Richmond for such a successful team has a decent amount of them. To go from multiple premiers to wooden spoon is an indication of how Richmond haven’t changed fundamentally since their last spoon in 07. Meanwhile, as Geelong refuse to drop down the ladder, the softest breeze made Richmond crash.

With that said, this isn't last year, there's no clear standout for pick 1 so its not as good a compensation for having that spoon on ur record. And in Richmond's defense, they prob wouldn't be winning the spoon were it not for their insane injury list, they would still mostly suck but they would be a couple spots higher at least. Team looks flat after Simmo sacking. Looks like the air of of the tyres with desire and pressure for the ball. A lot of players not chasing and just watching at times. Really need English and Baker and keep our 1st pick or split and get 2 first rounds althoug O’Sullivan, Smith or Smilie would be ice too
English is likely staying at the dogs, baker is gonna be interesting. We do have the advantage of being his childhood team, but we won't have the capital without trading players or splitting the 1st pick. And splitting the first pick might be a mistake if we can't end up with a pick still in the top 10 as well as baker.

Jack Martin more likely for dockers i reckon. Baker will come down to his choice and whether west coast can satisfy richmond. Robertson prob not yet. He may wait till his contract is up but u never know

Eagles should free up some picks in the 60s and 70s to go for some guys delisted, that may be good for us. Don't worry about trading. The question is who we delist to free up spots.
@@BDub2024 yeah, be good if we could trade some players out too, but its hard to see many that other clubs would want. If we could get Robertson for a 4th round pick it might be worth it. He only doesn't play cos Brisbane are deep in his position, he would likely get a game for us. But we tried that last year and he declined then resigned with brissie. He might not want to come, but that may have changed after another year on the fringe.

Clay Hall isn't ready. He is only 18, what's the rush. I'm disappointd they removed Clark last year when he really gave his all. Culley basically will have to be a half forward or half back due to lack of pace. Maric needs time and possibly will end up down back. But he has had an average year this year to be honest. Hutchinson is lucky to be playing, but I think they want to give him exposure and hopefully his ball handling will improve after a full preseason. He is a bit fumbling. Any midfielder in the draft won't be really any good until 2028. Kelly has had knee and hip issues and not able to train fully.

Reid has shown his biggest strength is antagonising opposition players then crying for free kicks when they rightfully retaliate. Comes across like a brat who’s never been told no.
To be fair to Reid, that's his style of play and he's only in his first year. He thrives on the physical challenge, though may burn up too much energy. If opposition are focused on him it creates opportunitis for other players too. Its just that we don't have anyone to take advantage of it.

We will be like this in 2024 and 2025... and hopefully start improving 2026. Simmo did an outstanding job to get those three wins and a number of close encounters. But we were playing above our talent in those games.
