    What’s wild is anyone with a shop knows you have to wait a year to get a Topps account, not a Topps breakers account but a direct Topps hobby shop account… wild how he seems to have just bypassed this

    • @jasonrak
      @jasonrak 7 місяців тому

      It's GREAT promotion for Topps and of course Fanatics now that Fanatics owns the Topps company. This is a huge store with plenty of room for Fanatics to sell whatever they want. Not to mention all the eyes Topps will get via Sports Card Investor promotions on his UA-cam channels, etc. Don't be surprised if you see Fanatics/Topps sponsoring trade nights, paying athletes to come into the shop and sign. There's plenty that ALL the card companies can do with Geoff and all this space. This is gold for Fanatics. No question this store was getting basically whatever it wants. And I'm sure the price of cases and boxes of this stuff was just right for Jeff and his crew to buy as much as they possibly could. Open a brand-new, modernized 4 million dollar card store and Topps will come running to you as well. I only wish there was a store around like this when I grew up collecting and being a kid dealer in the 80s. Nothing wrong with this. It's called advertising and promotion and Fanatics would be stupid not to supply Geoff's store with tons of product. Wouldn't matter if it was Geoff or whomever. The people who run Fanatics aren't stupid. Also, while it might take a year/2 years, not sure exactly. But this store will make a killing. And don't be surprised if he decides to produce off-shoot stores in other cities under the CardsHQ name and branch out. Kinda like Roadshows started to do in last couple years but this is a much bigger store. We'll see. But Geoff, like him or not, is not a dumb guy and he's made a lot of money. He has a roadmap of what he wants to do and its most likely not stopping at a store in Georgia.

    • @bradcrowe668
      @bradcrowe668 6 місяців тому +3

      I see your point but it's not that wild. He has a large following on UA-cam...he's at all of the major card shows and is known very well through the whole trading card community. The old phrase it's not what you know, but who you know is still relevant today. It makes good business sense for Topps to expedite this for Geoff.

    Great interview and video buddy. Jeff has done alot for the hobby as you have. Great to see him give credit to the other shops that helped influence his inspiration for Cards HQ and not take 100% credit. That is the biggest thing from the video I was impressed with. Yes, the store is amazing, but staying humble is what will make it a huge success in my opinion!

    Look at how much we have spent ....... Isn't that cool?
    Lawd. Spare Us! Self- promotion regarding how much has been spent vs. allow for the people and sales to determine profitability.
    Of course curiosity needs to be heightened especially at the Grand Opening.......which looked sparse..... How does a business sustain this interest with such a huge venue?
    Money spent does NOT determine success. "Dats fo sure."
    The FUTURE hasn't been determined ..... Only the buying public will determine the success of this extravagant expense.
    Would love to see what the business plan contained.
    The Operating Expenses of this behemoth store are extremely high. No one needs to be a genius just to see that.
    How many card $$ must be purchased each week to break even nevermind pull a profit.
    From a purely business financial standpoint, something doesn't make sense here at all ......

    • @paulmouradjian6045
      @paulmouradjian6045 8 місяців тому

      Looking down is a hell of a lot more comfortable than BENDING DOWN OR GETTING ON YOUR KNEES! HA!
      You need a conveyor to have the card rack move up and down......or these cases need to be higher.......

    • @theboringchannel2027
      @theboringchannel2027 8 місяців тому +1

      Conservatively his expenses are in the $3-5k per DAY range.
      I own three collectible stores, 3500 -8500 sq ft,
      and I am between1.2k - 2k per day in expenses depending on the store.
      At a minimum he has to do about $15k a day in sales on average,
      or $5.5 mil a year.
      That is NOT going to be accomplished with the brick and mortar.
      That is about $400 per sq foot in sales,
      that is not happening at a card shop in a shopping center,
      and definitely not happening when you dedicate half your shop
      to social activity spots which generate $0 sales.
      Also they lack the amount of merch you need.
      EVERYTHING from the slabs to the card supplies
      is spaced out to take up space in the store.
      Ever see a card shop or other retailer do that?
      They are going to need their online business
      to cover the expenses of the store,
      to keep it open,
      as it is almost guaranteed to be a money loser.
      Only need $105k a week in sales to keep the lights on.
      At $20, that is only 5,250 slabs a week, easy peezy, lol.

    More behind the scene reveals with shop owners and collectors definitely adds to the story for those involved and those who watch. I am curious if they plan to add other items such as books and collectibles that relate to the hobby. Geoff Wilson's book on sports cards collecting and investing comes out in just two months yet I'm surprised I haven't seen him feature it in his video on his own store, unless I missed it. This type of content would definitely help educate the novice collector or investor. Plenty of seating to buy in, relax and read thru it while at the store.

    This was an amazing job Jay, this was my favorite part about the summer tour. the behind the scenes why they got into it. and now to do it with one of major players in maybe a shop unlike any other in the US, you can still hear his passion and love for the hobby even after, what can only be described as, chaotic, 4 years that would leave many drained or tapped out. good on jeff for having a great team... seems like you could work at cardsHQ for the content team lol! keep up the great work dude!

    Hey.......where are the singles so I can complete my 1967-72 sets?
    Oh I guess I need to shop at Burbank........
    All you are showing are slabs and singles boxes...........wax....but that seems all modern.
    Please consider another name other than cabana...
    It wreaks Barry Manilow.

    Geoff is an awesome leader. He attracts the right people and simply makes things happen! Love him or hate him, he created the highest quality content and now built the coolest card shop in the country. His advantage over guys like Ryan and Rob is his reach into the finance and tech industry. Also, his card shop tours were all intentional! He picked out the best things from each shop and implemented them in his shop!
    Influencers who flip cards and make contents are cool. I think what’s cooler for kids to be inspired by is guys like Geoff. His business acumen combined with his passion for cards was a perfect storm 👍

      " He picked out the best things from each shop and implemented them in his shop! "
      As a professional in retail with 30 years of experience in the fortune 100 world of retail,
      this shop is poorly designed for the actual task of retail.
      Not enough shelf space to display enough merch to sell enough
      to pay the bills.
      Spreading out the slabs and other merch,
      shows they lack enough inventory to even fill the insufficient
      amount of shelf space they have.
      Selling $15 slabs out of your showcases is money losing proposition,
      every day, every time.
      Depending on the willingness and ability to fund this losing venture
      will determine how long it remains open.
      Expect a pivot to online only in less than two years.

    Cool shop but WRONG time to open this place. This hobby is a dying industry. There's no denying it. Over half of all my hobby friends left these past 2 years nowhere to be found. It sucks, but really can't seem to wrap my head around why open this shop up now.
