Ngl I’m actually very impressed with this shop, I was worried he wouldn’t be able to price cards competitively enough but he seems to be priced %90-105 which is great for a card shop, especially one as nice as this one. I really hope this shop works out for Geoff

His slabs are priced for people exactly like me !! Not a lot of money but would love to get some slabs. I do not even collect basketball but even I would get that Kobe rookie !! Do they have a website? If so, I would love to go there and check out the cards. I never collected slabbed cards. Till one day I saw a Alan Trammel DNA auto and the rest is history. You even took off %50 of the price !!! Now I have a million Miggy slabs ( all graded 10) I have a PSA 9 of his rookie. I have a lot of Tigers slabbed too. These cards were given to me as gifts from my epic subscribers !! Never ever went to a livestream but I would goto thiers for sure !! I have a ton of Alverez rookies that I am holding onto. I dont collect hockey but I would of taken that McDavid Young Guns for sure. im sorry my comment was a book. Lots of great cards though. Loved this vlog, thanks for sharing !!

When the plastic (grading) costs more than the value of a raw card,
you should not be buying those slabs.
      That is junk slabs,
which will be stacked next to the junk wax eventually.

@@jcbuckeye I do. And yes he said they were gonna be like the ones in Japan. These ones are trash and missing the main component of the riser which keeps you from having to get on your knees to look at a PSA 8 Jeff Green rookie for $7

    • @theboringchannel2027
      @theboringchannel2027 9 місяців тому +1

They likely didn't use risers due to security/theft reasons. If you make them higher, obstructs the view, which then makes it easier for people to shoplift.
Has a tiny amount of his 14,000 sq ft dedicated to showcases for cards,
and in those showcases, the cards are spread out
a considerable distance from each other,
so they either lack inventory to fill the cases
      or are basically idiots.
Selling slabs for $15 out of showcases is NOT a profitable business model.

To be honest I don't think that store will be open in 3-5 yrs personally or it will be at a much much much smaller location. Should of stuck to the online and said to hell with all that overhead. Stupid investment for a roller coaster if a ride hobby

    • @RobertLee-wi5kc
      @RobertLee-wi5kc 9 місяців тому

Overhead is small. Like a Big Lots didn't even carpet the place. Air conditioning will be biggest overhead. Property tax cheap in ga about 1.5 per cent as opposed to about 5 per cent in midwest (chicago) Baseball card industry has been around for over 50 years, no going away.

    • @theboringchannel2027
      @theboringchannel2027 9 місяців тому

@@RobertLee-wi5kc fairly obvious you have ZERO experience in retail.
His daily operating expenses are atleast 3k,
and likely closer to 5k for a store that size.
I own three pop culture/card stores from 3500-8000 sq ft.
You truly have no clue what you are talking about.
PS> commercial property tax is not 5% in chicago,
and while you are worried about property tax,
and that only applies if he has a triple net lease,
which you likely have no idea what that is,
you forgot to mention RENT and LABOR
      in your expense worries,
and mention property tax, which he might
      not even be responsible for,
and likely on par with is utility bill at most.
Probably best you avoid investing your own money,
      or not.

to check out his cards, stream about them maybe, kill some time.
Then he will pocket the 3-5k card

If you do have a "sales tax permit" from state A you simply sign a document which all retailers should have (georgia I believe Form S-5) which just takes your permit number from your state and exempts you from paying sales tax. I realize at shows no one pays but this enables wholesale transactions. Don't believe me I have only been buying throughout the country in coins/stamps and baseball cards since 1973. Ever see Jeff Wilson say oh yeah I need to pay you sales tax on this wholesale purchase when at a show?

When a partner/manager knows very little about the product they are selling,
that is not a good sign.
When a business has the owner/manager inventorying slabs,
a $15-20 hr job for an employee to do,
there is something very wrong with the process/management of the store,
and suggests a whole range of other issues exist.

The vertical display cases are an improvement over the flat display cases in traditional card shops, but they pail in comparison to the display cases in Japanese trading card stores in both the type of vertical display as well as the vast quantity of cards in each case. It seemed like all of the cards were graded, so if they included raw cards, they shouldn't have a problem filling the cases. It will be interesting to see how it looks six months down the road. Geoff should jump on Mojo's offer to stay overnight for marketing for his store and building a relationship with a sports card influencer who actually seems to love cards and the people around them.

@@mojo_sports Daily expenses are $3-5k for that location,
as a three store owner, 3500-8000 sq ft, collectibles/cards,
I have a strong basis to comment.
He has ZERO chance of turning a profit on the brick and mortar,
he has about half his retail floor dedicated to non revenue generating
      social activities, that is insane.
The amount of showcases for the sales space is minimal,
and thus the amount of product displayed is not enough to
offer the potential to generate enough sales to cover expenses.
Add in the wide spacing between each card to take up space in the showcase,
same can be seen for everything else on the walls. Lots of space between relatively small amount of merchandise.
They either lack inventory or had a terrible merchandiser layout the store for them.
My smallest store 3,500 sq ft , low 7 figures in sales,
has about 3x or more inventory this 14k store does,
and probably a merchandise value exceeding what he does
(minus any 20k cards that will rarely ever sell)
and my daily expense for this store is about $1,200
No way he can generate the revenue necessary with his current
inventory to pay the bills, and likely not enough even as cash flow
      to just pay the bills.
His is going to rely HEAVILY online for his profits,
another segment of the market that is being squeezed
      for profitability as well.
He probably gets some big corporate help to give him a chance,
but in the end, the numbers will just not work out,
      and this location will close.
How long depends on how much they got to keep on losing
every month to keep it alive,
hopefully BTC goes up so crypto bro owner can keep on
      financing it.

When a store has the owner/manager entering slabs into inventory as his job, and brags about it, a job for the $15-20 hr employee,
there are SERIOUS structural issues with the business management,
