New Subscriber. I "Like" this video I have this air mattress for all the reason you mentioned + one excellent reason you overlooked. The ground side material is a near bulletproof 70D. I think this air mattress is far less susceptible to punctures/leaks in the middle of the night than ANY OTHER INFLATABLE presently on the market. I've had NO PROBLEMS with the Winglok valve leaking air. Yes, the New XTherm NXT that has a higher 8.5 R value & the same 70D ground side material Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
Thank you for this. I use the Big Agnes Q and am fairly happy with it (with my BA bag).... but always looking to tweak things. At 225 lbs it does quite well for me side sleeping. I do need a closed cell pad for underneath in below 30 temps. What bag do you use with this Xtherm when it gets to single temps?
I have two winter bags. I have an Outdoor Vitals 0 degree quilt for like 15-30 degrees. Then I have a -30 degree Mountain Hardware Lamina Z for those really cold Adirondack camping trips.
Great video! I switched to a more comfortable pad and just throw the foam cell pad underneath to get the R value back up. But if I couldnt use that pad, id def use the Xtherm year round
Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Leaks out the WingLock Valve /// I got a new one and does the same! slow leak.. Test your Valve by using a bowl or pool or anything that you can get the Valve underwater, test closed and open and see if your mat does leak before you go on the trail.. I even pop the top off and i was surprised it does not seat down to the rubber gasket! This would be easy fix for them, they just need the inside of the cap to have the round plastic under the cap to set more into the Tube around the rubber seal.. I do love this mat! But i wont ever use it on Hiking trip ever! I hope none of you have this same problem, no way to stop the leak, when it not coming from the mat it self.
i actually have the same issue, bought x-lite like and its leaking since its new ,leaks out 15-20% air during night wich i tought at first is just a stretch of material or air temperature change. Was always waking up with my back hurting and tested it couple times to chexk for leaks and there are no any. Finally decided to return it and looking for new one ,spent bunch of money and it sucks to be honest.
@@lazarbobic5780 Thank you.. I was not able to send my back, since i had it too long. There is a flaw in many of them, and some wont know it till they keep up over a few days. I got Sea to Summit Comfort Light Self-Inflating Foam Sleeping Mat.. never loses air for days on end! Glad you found out early enough, many wont allow me to put this out there.. Truth is the truth and people pay hard money, they want it to work!
Do you think it can be fixed at home without returning ,its huge dissapointment to have that leak in such expensive piece of gear that is supposed to be one of best on market .
@@lazarbobic5780 Nope, i even bought a new valve and does the same, I think i got a bad sleeping mat.. 1 in a million.. i have owned many mats, this one by far is the warmest i have ever had! So its my sea to summit mat.. so easy to inflate and deflate, just not a warm.
Comfort is subjective. Many people find the horizontal baffles to be very uncomfortable. Big Agnes is far more comfortable. Best is also subjective. I'm in the SE of the country and can be just find with a 4ish R value. Best for me personally is superior comfort over needing the ability to go below freezing.
If I did not try the BA Rapide, I would say this is a comfortable pad. The Rapide takes it to another level. However, I would not trade my Xtherm for anything when it is 0 degrees out. It pairs well with my 0f degree and -30f degree bags. It gets cold up here.
I would tell you that you were correct! Great video. And, the 4” pad you mentioned as the next closest, actually has a huge weak point- it’s a 4” pad. The “walls” (perimeter) of all insulated pads is where heat loss is the “Achilles Heel.” Heat/cold transfer because of the lack of the pad’s insulating material. The perimeter of any pad is its weak point. The thicker the pad, of course the weakness is amplified. And this information has all been revealed on various studies and is available. But even on the diagram that you showed, will show the viewer that there is no insulation on the “walls “ perimeter.
Great information. The lightweight 4” pad is the current craze. But I think Thermarest gets the same quality with their innovation. There is a reason why the top brand still has 2.5” across their product line. Good info, thanks for sharing, see you outside.
The crunchy sounds diminishes over time. One option if your sleeping bag is big enough, you can put the pad inside. Also, some sleeping bag and quilt manufacturers have straps that snap on the bag to prevent this.

Thanks for the sub and great comment!
Thank you for showing the stat comparisons. Great video
Best for winter, not bad for the other seasons.

Good solid and candid review.

which size did you choose? It looks like the regular wide model

I found the BA Rapide SL to be more comfortable, but the Xtherm is still my go to winter pad.
@@OutsideChronicleshey - would xtherm be good for a stomach sleeper. I don’t seem to find pads uncomfortable as not on side digging in.
@@grantricker8001I do not see why not, it’s comfortable on your back. I am guessing it would be the same.

I do think there needs to be more testing of this new valve.. I wish they had way my sea to summit is. no leak ever.
I think the Exped 5R and 7R series pads are also worthy of consideration
Thanks, I will check them out.
Thx a lot :) Good review

This pad doesn’t get too hot in the summer then?
Since it provides insulation only on one surface, you have the rest of your body open to the air. It’s not like an over powered sleeping bag.

Agree used in India and Pakistan and the Netherlands it was good

It's bothering me that it slips under me and rustles a lot, how can I solve this?

Where can I get it ?
Thermarest.com or REI or any other major gear shop.
campsaver, everest gear ,sun and sports, steep & cheap ..are deep discount online retailers that sometimes have great deals on these kind of items
Almost 300 bucks for an air bag ha ha
What the hell? Sounds like sleeping on a bag chips!😢😢😢
