    Oh! I never mentioned it! But the two Celestial Ascended amulets in the game? One is ''Eyes of Abaddon'' and the other is ''Eye of Janthir''. Coinicidence? HMMMMMMMMMMMM?

      We also have Plague Idol, Antons Secret Blade and more from the different stand alone games in GW1, Coinicidence? :b
      But a serious comment. It will be awesome to get the answer to his plan of giving all races magic, but dont over use him. That would be a sad thing, the game is about all the other parts left behind from GW1 up until now, I rather we be done with this in a reasonable time and move on to the next thing, and hopeing that wont be more dragons just right after Mordremoth. Lets go for someone lets say Pawala Joko maybe?
      Thanks for your time.

    Also, don't forget that in the cutscene back in GW1 where Kormir becomes a goddess, she says that she has not only Abaddon's power but also his knowledge. If there was something special Abaddon knew, Kormir knows now.

    So when you ask, why would there be a temple to Abaddon in the maguuma jungle, let's not forget that there's already a huge temple there. One of the great mysteries in GW1 would be, why is there a temple to Balthazar hidden deep in Maguuma.

    Wow WP i have to say, these vids are what i look forward to after the Arenanet Tuesday trailer. There isn't anyone i've seen who puts together a cohesive argument and in depth analysis as much as you. I do hope one day, Anet allow u a look at one of their lore books!

They are tremendously engaging!

    This sounds really cool and everything, but I stand by my opinion that there should just be a proper Expansion, unlocking Cantha and Elona, as well as possibly new classes/races (such as the Tengu)!
    I know, there is still no official statement that kind of hints at something like that, but as a GW1 veteran those continents are areas I would LOVE to explore a second time!

    • @basedinliberty9322
      @basedinliberty9322 10 років тому +6

      Though I think Cantha and Elona would be cool, I'd rather them expand on the map we already have before going to different continents... Though I would like to see a new continent, I'd like it to be new lore as well...

      Rayne Xero I agree. We need to hurry up and head to the Crystal Desert and Ring of Fire islands. I love Cantha and Elona as much as the rest of the GW1 vets, but Tyria doesn't feel complete without a complete map in my opinion.

      Tehkezah Decresing pleayer population ? xD they recently stated they finally hit 3m active players in a month...how could they reach that milestone if the playerbase was actually dropping ? lol.
      Still I kinda agree...i think we ll prolly see an expansion quite "soon" (i think next year...during summer or early autumn).
      More than the hype thing, it's because NCsoft want their share...the % they have on the gemstore income is really low compared to the one of the box sales. So they ll push for an expansion...look at the recent cuts in personnel from NCsoft, it affected every studio they had...except Anet. Why would they do that, if they weren't cooking something tasty for them ?

    • @Kevora92
      @Kevora92 10 років тому +1

      I completely agree with you guys: An expansion would just be the way to go financially!
      Due to their new server mechanics and possibly rising player numbers (most likely because of the Chinese release) you see alot more people online and that's a good thing.
      But even if Season 2's finale doesn't suck as such, about everyone would prefer a proper expansion.
      I'm not saying that they should stop making Living World content (it is actually an awesome idea!), if they have the manpower they totally should do both!
      I, personally, just want to explore completely different settings and we had this kind of variety in GW1 in the form of Cantha and Elona.
      Plus, just the announcement of an expansion would immediately increase interest in the game overall, because it sends the message to potential players that GW2 is far from dead - it would be even more lucrative if the expansion would be playable even if you do not own the base game, the same way they did it with GW1.

    I went looking for a video on the links between Abaddon, celestial movements, and the #Deep_Lore, and found this - it's neat seeing your reaction to the return to GW1 lore, and remembering just how great it felt that we were finally getting payoff, after the core release, Season 1, and the first half of Season 2 largely ignored the series' history. WoodenPotatoes
      You don't like Doctor Who? ... THANK YOU! I'm not alone in thinking that Doctor Who has been drawn out too long and that it needs to die. I hate how unaware non-British people are of the fact that it's way past stale, it was even one of the earliest TV programs on BBC last century. Heck, its been around so long that even my mum (despite her age) watched it with her siblings when she was a kid. Yes, the first couple of seasons past 2000 were great, I enjoyed them and the climax was the Daleks vs Cybermen episode. But beyond that... it is just bullshit. At the start of each story arc (usually lasting an episode) you just know that it's going to end up fine in the end. End of David Tennant season 1 was the exception, which contributed to it being so good. Heck I remember the last straw was when Doctor Who aged at the end of DT season 2 and everything was fixed just by the power of hope and believing in him. What bollocks. My brother loves it (and so do other people in my family *GRR*), so every Christmas I try my best to avoid him realising that there's a Christmas special.
      Being serious now, nothing lasts forever. Everything has to have an end. Often the best stories/games/whatever are those that don't have sequels or continuation because they don't need it. And usually the consumers will want a sequel because of how good it was. Some of my favourite movies and things are those one-off stories. Of course there are a few exceptions, FMA got a sequel movie that provided even more closure than the already awesome anime. Same needs to happen with games, though it is more dynamic. Some of these franchises need to end, because of how overdone and stale they are getting. The dynamic factor comes in as game franchises can take new directions and explore different genres to keep things fresh and to keep it alive. You can't really do that with TV shows and movies, since the experience is still to similar. Unless you were to take the characters and make an alternate universe story or something. But most franchises don't do that, they just keep on doing the same shit over and over. I will jump for joy, the day that games like COD and Fifa stop getting anymore titles. And even beloved franchises like Pokemon and Halo are being milked for money (though Pokemon seems to be going in the right direction). Halo 4 was cool and all, but it could have remained a dream and we'd all reminisce about how awesome the Halo franchise was. But no, they are digging up its grave and puppettering it's corpse for more money. Who knows, a proper Halo Wars on PC could have revitalized the franchise. Pokken Fighters for Pokemon is a fresh new direction, that's sorely needed. Who knows what they could have done with Halo? A squad based RPG ala Mass Effect would have been a breath of fresh air.
      In the same way, Doctor Who is being overdone. I heard in one of the recent series that Doctor Who died at the start and didn't regenerate and I was overjoyed and also rubbing it in my brothers face that Doctor Who would permanently end like it should. But then he came back and laughed at me, rubbing it in my face cos they pulled bullshit and made up a reason for why the Doctor is still alive, to keep the franchise going. It's like one of those stories that ends: "Then they woke up and it was all a dream." Good things can't last forever, nothing can. But it's not negative for it to be so. Out of the ashes, something else will rise anew. By people's lives being finite, there is room for new lives, etc. There is always 2 sides to the same sword. Not all doom and gloom.
      Man my comments are getting philosophical/serious/bordering-on-madness. Once again, apologies for a wall of text just to say 'Doctor Who needs to die.' But I felt like spilling my brain into the comment box again.

    Hi Woodenpotatoes! I recently noticed that in Hoelbrak, a jotun named Thrulnn the Lost mentions about a "time of giants". He seems to tell you in his dialogue that the jotun were once a magical, mighty race along the Norn. An interesting thing about it, though, is that he mentions the gods once favoring the jotun, but when the humen came from across the sea, the gods ultimately gave the magic from the jotun to the humen. Maybe a future theory/mystery/speculation video about this?

    You know, this talking about the bloodstone, Abbadon, the Deep Sea Dragon reminds me of the Tower of Nightmeres where we discovered those krait obelisk shards were radiating magic similar to the one of the Bloodstones.
    And Mordremoth did attack fort salma which was full of those, but maybe that was just on his research of random magic.
    Maybe with Abaddon being the god of water and magic, and him using the bloodstones, there's any chances he had the Krait on his side too before he was cast away? Or maybe that race is sort of leeching the remains of his work?

    I totaly love your videos man and I wish to add a few small details becouse as well i am very passionate about the story behind GW. First of all if you look at the symbols on the bloodstones you will notice that there were always 6. 6 gods and 6 elder dragons. My theory is that after every cycle the elder dragons need to recharge their strenght or magic but it can not be that easy of just geting it from nowhere so they developed avatars. We see them as gods and we worship them and that is from where they get their powers back. That is what makes the cycle continue. Every time the dragons were awake the gods were nowhere to be found. The dragons act in their sleep on the world by controling the gods like in a dream but when they are awake they can not dream so the gods are nowhere. Geting to Abaddon now you see he as one of the dragons wanted the dragons to awake faster from their slumber. He tought that if the humans have the magic they can give even more power trough their worship. King Doric gave back the magic becouse he saw how that power could destroy the human race and the dragons saw that as well. With no subjects they could not regain powers so they voted to take the magic back and wait for the cycle as usual. But Abadon saw in humans what the others did not he realy tought that the humans are capable of speeding the cycle he became greedy so the other gods casted Abadons mind in the realm of torment. That way they the humans did not found the truth about the dragons and they could get the powers trough worship without question. You do not have to see Abaddon as an enemy to the elder dragons he just lost his way his mind and trough that he lost his power to control his avatar that was until the Nightfall. The other gods chose to give back Abaddon his sanity. They made him see the truth as why they decided to take tha magic back from the humans. This is a theory that i like to think of they were always 6 and the eternal alchemy is the only thing that we must master to defet them and the only way to do it as the elder dragons are the primal elements and only by controling them we will stop them. That is what scarlet saw when she looked into the eternal alchemy she found a way to control these primal elements now we must see what she saw.
    Anyway its a nice video and I always look for more every day :)

  • @WulopinIvoryheart
    @WulopinIvoryheart 10 років тому

    WoodenPotatoes In the last episode of point of interest they (again) told us to pay attention to details from the earlier parts of the living story, as these would be important in the LS yet to come. Seeing the trailer with a warehouse-looking place brings thoughts of scarlet's stuff that Taimi was to go through. And the missing Rytlock is probably connected to the talisman that points to the successor of the throne. What are your thoughts about this? More specifically, what details in the past do you hold as most significant? Thanks for making great videos! Peas!

  • @mahius19
    @mahius19 10 років тому

    All of this awesome lore! Reminds me of how the plot of Nightfall was the best in GW1. And the story of Abaddon is similar to the story of Prometheus. In Greek Mythology, Prometheus gave fire to humans and was punished for it. I think Abaddon is the most relevant human god to the elder dragons, especially as his plot had the most clues to the elder dragons, what with Bloodstones, Realm of Torment. Heck wasn't the Crystal Desert all water before? Who knows, he might have come into contact with DSD there. And maybe there's a power struggle between the Dragons, Kralkatorrik vs DSD. I'm thinking that this could let the story move to the Elonian/Crystal Desert. Because that's where Abaddon was based, what with the Gate to his realm being there. I love how they are trying to be faithful to the original lore with the upcoming living story. Kormir, tell us his secrets!

  • @NegatorUK

    Bad news I think WP - While levelling my guardian (my 6th toon) recently in the personal story I noticed that it now goes from killing the lich in Timberline falls staright to the Tombs in Cursed Shore - The parts in Mount Maelstrom, Straits of Devastation and Malchiors Leap seem to have been cut. This would include The temple of the forgotten god that you showed in your vid. I'll check the story tomorrow when I log on to confirm this since I've let it languish since making lvl 80 with this toon.
    You might want to check your reddit sources for any complaints about anet viciously cutting the personal story in the mid-September patch.

      oops, I'm confused all that was just the end of chapter 7, "Forming the Pact", There is still Chapter 8 "victory or Death" that starts with "Temple of the Forgotten God". Has it always been this way ? I've just killed the Eye of Zhaitan and released King Reza at the end of Chapter 7in the pool behind the Temple of Melandru - Either I'm having a senior moment or anet have moved the "souce of orr" forward to make the trait-unlock easier

    Ok. So I'm happy they're bringing the Abaddon content into the game. I love Guild Wars 1 lore so much and I have played the game since beta. I've always had a hunch that he had good intentions with what he was doing with the magic. But when the players already had a choice if they wanted an Abaddon fractal or not, and all the idiots voted for keil, they got the asuran one instead. (Everyone already forgot about it) As much as I wanted to see the abandon fractal, I also didn't want new anet to mess it up. So if they add content that was supposed to be in that fractal, whether it's pieces or the whole thing it would kinda go against what the whole voting event. Likewise that was supposed to be a huge decision made by the players that impacted the world....it's a big f you if they add it ....but if so, I feel like this is a sign that they don't have enough time to create content and through in an old piece of content they didn't release into the story...sounds like they're just making up some halfass storyline now because the company is a all over the place with so many people coming and leaving. I'd rather them make content that they planned going into the game than, "hey guys we don't have any content coming up! why don't we just use that adaddon fractal!".....

    Concerning the Location of the room and statue: yes it could be in the Abbadon Fractal, wich we didnt get during the vote, but was never said to not be done in the future but WP, you said that whole temples were cast into the realm of torment to hide information about Abbadon - maybe Kormir rebuild the place a bit to prepare the knowledge to be given back to the humans slowly before she left and thats where we will see that temple.
    If we want to combine as many path into a crazy theory how about this: Evon has improved his situation with having the main trading group in Lions arch after Scarlets attack and now trys to research Abbadon (maybe he wants to see if we can find info thats helps against Mordremoth), at the same time they try to form that Fractal Rytlock is trying to get out of the mist and those two attemps disturb ech other leading neither to their goal but creating a way into the realm of torment (or whatever it became over the years). there we find Rytlock again, bring him back and get some interesting stuff (and maybe that Hourglass-thing breaking does something regarding to this too, but that might be a little too crazy^^)

    well one possibility is that the sunken temple in Orr is the temple that we are seeing, but we are seeing only a section of the temple. In my mind I am picturing a local catholic basilica that has separate rooms that are named differently depending on what you do there, but all contain an alter to pray at. Maybe the temple in Orr is like this, where the statue in the picture is in the temple in a separate area on the other side, but because the temple sunk it also toppled over and we only have access to one of the many prayer/worship rooms to Abaddon.

    Hey WP, just rewatched your video om the eternal alchemy cutscene because something came to mind, in that video you paired Kormir to Zhaitan but what if it isn't actually the god Kormir but Abaddon and he should be paired to the deep sea dragon. Instead, Dwayna would be paired to Zhaitan which (to me) does not make a lot of sense. Just thinking there may be more to that eternal alchemy cutscene in terms of the gods...

    As a warehouse 13 fan the idea of the Durmand Priory having a secret area where artifacts like the hourglass are held is very prevalent in my mind. If that is the case and the Priory is holding powerful items from the world, the Abaddon statue may be a symbol of the chaos that can be unleashed if things are not kept guarded or perhaps an item kept safe when the world sought to destroy itself with magic

    I agree with the theory that it is just a room in the depths of the priory that we'll be visiting. But it is not the statue from the forgotton god temple mission. It's probably just some other statue of abaddon the priory were able to get their hands on. It's not too hard to say that the priory was able to get their hands on some last remaining statue buried deep in some ruins somewhere.
    Or that they used "timey wimey" stuff in the mists to grab an intact statue of abaddon. Because it would make a lot of sense for the priory to really want to have information on abaddon. Because at this point stuff about him is sort of lost knowledge any priory scholar's eyes would light up even thinking about getting their hands on any information considered lost or forbidden.
    And when it comes to the inscription being in new krytan, I believe that's probably just the priory trying to be accurate with their findings. Plus the priory probably has a ton of ancient and magical artifacts. It's not too hard to say one of them allows you to look into the past. Meaning the statue and the alchemy-esc circle above it, could both just be a priory scholar trying to replicate what he saw through said artifact.
    Cause if the priory can just do time stuff through the mists or through an artifact, it's not hard to believe that they just peeked through to some abaddon stuff. And got what info they could, then replicated it in modern times. I do think people are getting a little over excited with abaddon's involvement in the next patch. That's just my thoughts on the subject anyway. Even then, I'm still excited to see what happens in the next living story segment. :D

    My personal theory on Abbadon is that he wanted to keep magic in the world because magic in the GW universe in many ways brings more knowledge. Locking it back away angered him and his zeal on this issue drove him to war. He might have led to information about the dragons being uncovered in the ensuring conflict and the delima posed by the dragons drove the gods away from tyria as they withdrew to protect the world, lick their wounds from their war with their brother, and to prepare for a possible threat posed by these creatures..

    In Cutthroat Politics we had to chose between Elen Kiel and Evon Gnashblade. They both promised a development of a certain fractal if they won: "Development of a Thaumanova Reactor fractal to be added by the end of the year" for Elen and "Development of a Fall of Abaddon fractal to be added by the end of the year" for Evon. It is stated on wiki that the fractal of the losing candidate wont be developed, but the post from which that was quoted was deleted. And it's precisely stated "by the end of the year", if I remember well, at first it meant that the other one will be developed and added later. Maybe this is the new fractal that will be added in the next patch?

    I was expecting more to do with Abaddon at the end of season one. A couple minor things brought about this thought: Scarlet's Veil, a skin we eventually got, looked strikingly similar to Abaddon to me, and Anet put tormented weapons on the BLTC around the same time, which made me assume Anet was thinking about old lore. We also never saw the alternate fractal having something to do with Abaddon. Since the reactor fractal ended up being relevant to season one's plot, I always assumed the fractal we never saw also had relevance. But season one ended with nothing to show for these hints. Any thoughts?

    I think its going to turn out that before the durmand priories base was for the durmand priory, that it was an old temple to abbadon, and the hourglass time travel thingy from Ogden will take us back to that time.
    The architecture between the abbadon room and the durmand priories library is just too similar, if it wasnt for the different alchemy circles, then they would be exact.

    Ancient video, I know. But this got me thinking:
    - Souls = magical power. (Otherwise why would trapping them in soul batteries grant magical power?)
    - The Human Gods shepherd souls into various afterlives (Grenth especially)
    - The afterlives are different realms.
    -> The Human Gods were/are draining magical power from Tyria.
    Why do you think this is? To hinder the Elder Dragons? To bring back balance to the Eternal Alchemy? It fits really well with Deroir's Yggdrasil theory IMO, in case you know about that one.

    Grenth-Zhaitan
    Abaddon-Bubbles
    They have similar properties, who knows, they might just be alter Egos of the Dragons, like schizophrenia :D

    Could that other temple have sunken to the bottom of a lake or the sea, so the five didn't find it in their scourge, but now it re-surfaced? Or maybe we'll dive down to it.
    If Zaitan could lift the entirety of Orr to the surface again, it's possible that either the Deep See Dragon or Mordemoth might do something similar.

  • @Vrykon
    @Vrykon 10 років тому

    Okay... I am not sure I disagree exactly concerning the Priory but when you point out that the temple doesn't match the structure of the area now shown around the statue I have to react that the Priory screenshot does match rather perfectly. The windows are the same, the arches are the same, the materials and textures, even the lighting is the same... So then I'd be asking the question of if this isn't the Priory whether it is a different building built by the same architect or even whether it isn't another building belonging to the Priory. That would seem to be one of those things that just can't be a coincidence. Especially if you consider that the Priory dome that it shares so many details with is actually pointed out in the trailer in immediate succession with showing the Abaddon statue and the Priory is shown immediately before it. I'd have to say that if the color of this herring is red it is one very red herring.
    Something else I thought about is that - and I may be wrong and you can correct me - the statue of Abaddon from the Temple of the Six Gods from GW1 was missing? If it was there I never found it. I remember there being some kind of tablet but no statue. I'm not saying this is that statue but if there is a statue of Abaddon anywhere in the Durmand Priory it would be very tempting to believe they had, um, acquired it from somewhere else. I mean this is kind of the modus operandi of the Priory.
    EDIT: I am also remembering that the Priory predates the adoption of New Krytan specifically because they were the formative influence behind that adoption. Which is a very logical reason why text in Old Ascalonian might feature in a structure like this since New Krytan was created by the Priory from Old Krytan and Old Ascalonian.
    Also, one more quick note on the Priory location (besides the fact that it is in Lornar's Pass with so many interesting sites), if you play a Norn you will also meet Ogden during your personal story as a defense of the Priory and more specifically Ogden is a step right before joining one of the orders. A tidbit of easily overlooked info from that mission series is that a Priory facility in Snowden Drifts is attacked first. During that attack the Dredge will steal a book on ancient architecture from the Scholar's Cleft facility. The book ultimately contains the architectural information for the Durmand Priory. However, the specific focus of the Scholar's Cleft facility is the study of the Elder Dragons. Which... begs the question why the architectural tome is being used there instead of at the Priory itself? What would a book on architecture and specifically the architecture of the Priory have to do with fighting the Elder Dragons? Even better... before we forget that Scarlet existed and matters to this story transition... Scarlet has a room hidden under the Durmand Priory which players were encouraged to find and see...
    Okay, okay, one more thing... just one... very recently an extremely convenient portal was added to LA that facilitates arriving at the Durmand Priory with lightning efficiency. I used to use the OoW portal to get to Orr without way-pointing. Now I use the DP portal. Between this and the teases in the trailer I have to say that it really seems like someone is trying to funnel us toward the Priory lately.

    Alright, some things I noticed. First, Abaddon is most definitily going to be a misunderstood hero. Hell, he already was a promethean figure (much like the biblic Lucifer, in fact). As for his motivation, its very possible he knew something the other gods didnt know. He was the god of secrets after all. Its not unreasonable to believe that he, as the god of secrets, would know things the other gods didnt know. Perhaps he tried telling them, and they didnt believe him. Who knows.
    Perhaps its because the secret behind the dragons was something they just wouldnt believe. Perhaps the old theory, the one that says that the gods become the dragons, is right after all. And if we consider that Abaddon might be the one linked to the DSD (you know, ocean, depths, secrets, quite fitting), and that Kormir is not actually one that gets changed, that might also lead to an interesting twist.
    In fact, perhaps, when the DSD awakened, Kormir lost her powers, the essence of Abaddon, and that was transferred to the DSD. Maybe Abaddon retained his mind because of this unusual way of becoming an Elder Dragon, and because of it will return in the story. And maybe he will be able to reveal how to defeat the Elder Dragons. Or help them otherwise.
    Another potential way is that Kormir, upon becoming a godess, didnt just get Abaddons powers, but also part of his knowledge, and found out what he knew all along. And with her being the godess of truth, it is very possible that we will simply revisit Abaddons story, with her as the guide.
    But this certainly leads to a lot of interesting possibilities.

    I've got 2 ideas where that Abbadon statue could be, either the priory (seems to have a similar roof as some other scenes in the trailer, plus i think the statue we see in the picture is a different statue then that in his sunken temple) or.....Abbadon fractal! (maybe Anet felt like it would be worth the trouble to give us both fractals in the end.)

    Why are we so sure this is an old past place? This could also be a newly built temple inhabited by some group that has discovered some old writings and ancient text unearthed in some undisclosed, unexplored (by us) area of Tyria. To me, Abbadon always was a Tragic Heroes.
    I remember reading somewhere that others gods got jaleous of the Margonites, and the Margonites ignored the others Gods, and somes "broke" the other temples.
    I share your feelings WP. I would like to see Abbadon wanted to defend Races against Dragons, kind of, and not for waking them. After all, he fought the 5 alone with his Margonites haha. But at the end, his "pure" motivation became kind of "crazy" and an "obsession".
    By the way, I though about eternal Alchemy by something which can apply EVERYWHERE. Like, for Dragons, Gods, mists... etc.
    But, the god weren t 6 at first. They were more. Lyssa was Lys and Yssa. Dhumm was here when Grenth was born. Kind of disagree..
    Oh ! I think Abbadon isn t death. He just lost the rank of "God"(taken by Kormir). I read that on the forum. Am I right ? :p
    P.S. : I hate Kormir xD.

    The only thing that bothers me about the crossing of Old Ascalonian text and the Orrian Abaddon statue is that there are so few reasons why Ascalonians would use Orrian God statue art. They had their own unique style, just as Elonian and Canthan. It'll bum me out if they just used old assets because it was easier when they had this really cool, established tradition for the game.

    Is it at all possible that Abaddon wanted to use the elder dragons to overthrow the gods, thus needing magic to awaken them as quickly as possible? Considering what we know of Zhaitan's use of the powers of Orr (harnessing the powers of the temples of gods and what not), this does not strike me as too outlandish. I haven't played Guild Wars 1 and am just wondering if this could fit in the lore.
