    I made this project to replace a broken garden hose hanger and it turned out great! Thanks for the great instruction, your videos are the most useful I've come across in relating the details of forging.

    On the fifth day of Christmas the black bear made for me, a hose hanger, a bottle opener, a candle snuffer, a nice wreath hook and a beaitifull coat hook. And I spotted the Christmass Gargoyle again, happy to see it again, I was starting to miss him.

    Very cool project. I'm glad you did drill the holes on the holding bracket. That prevents the swelling like you said from punching holes. The only thing I would have done differently as far as the construction is I would have put the bracket where it holds the large plate in the same swage block if I could, and gave them a similar radius, so that I wasn't riviting a curved section of material to aone that was flat. I think that would have lead to a better hold, and never have to worry about them working loose on a piece that was to be used a lot. This is definitely a project that like you said has a LOT of uses around the smithy. Fine work as always, and can't wait to see what "mystery item" you pick up at your blacksmith get together. Keep the vids coming, and I'm sure like a few others here we kinda feel like we are getting spoiled with the massive amount of content you are really cranking out for this series.

    I am hoping Santa brings me a new small air compressor for being such a good little blacksmith this year. One of these hooks would be outstanding for the hose....added to my "shop to do list". Thanks John! Loving this series

    After going back and watching some of your old videos, it really is damaging how quite your anvil is now.
    You did a really good job on quieting down your anvil.

    Something you said about only using limited tooling gave me an idea for a future video. What if you made the same project twice, the first time using just the basics and the second time the most efficient way you can. I think it would be interesting to see the difference between the two and hear your thoughts on both.

      The real indicator is the audience retention graph that often shows a large percentage of viewers leaving a video when the filing starts.

    I really enjoy your videos, thank you. I noticed you have problems with the autofocus in your cam. Have you considered using manual focus? Some cameras let you save presets for different distances so you don't need to readjust it. Just a tip...

  • @dalekidd420
    @dalekidd420 6 років тому

    This is very definitely a project I need to try... waaaay too many extension cords tossed in corners around my shop, and I can rarely find 'em when I actually NEED 'em! The only trick will be the swage; no block yet, so I'm going to have to find another way to fudge that. I'm certain it could be done over the horn of he anvil, but keeping it straight and even would be an absolute bear. If you have any ideas what would make a good NEGATIVE swage (ie. in order to forge into a concave form rather than over a convex one), I'm listening.....

      I can recommend making one out of wood, it can be a bit rough but it works in a pinch. I like going with a piece of PVC pipe on a flat bit of laminated board draw a circle round the pipe, cut out the circle, cut the board in half and you've got yourself 2 perfect moulds, they don't last to long but they work.

    You make everything look so simple, and have you over worked your anvil as it looks like the case hardening of top is cracking.On screen looks like a crack going around.,
