    I'm wondering if you started upgrading the power on this thing. I'm looking at maybe buying a Fiero right now (as in this weekend), and I REALLY want to do an EV conversion on it. With the mid-engin platform, and modern batteries, it seems like you could build a badass, fast car, with great range for maybe not much more than it'd cost me to drop the V8 in there I originally wanted to do.

      EV swaps are super easy. MUCH easier than people think. Less work than swapping most combustion engine cars.
      Now you could buy a 2nd gen leaf cradle. Mate it into the fiero cradle. Thunderstruck VCU. Lipo battery in front and rear of car. BMSs. More than enough to get it down the road.

    I'm sorry if I am a bit late, as this was made 3 years ago, but can someone explain to me how you can put a manual transmission in an electric car?

    • @RonGrosinger
      @RonGrosinger  10 місяців тому +1

      The stock manual transmission stays in place where it was when there was a gasoline engine. Then you take the gasoline engine out. Replace it with an adapter plate and an electric motor. In other words, the electric motor provides the horsepower twisting force to the transmission as if it was a gas engine and the use of an adapter plate which is basically the same bolt holes that fit where the bell housing was now will fit the electric motor to the transmission. The transmission does not know the difference between an electric motor and a gas engine.

    It wouldn't take a lot of horsepower to get a Fiero moving, the stock 2.8 L V6 only put out 135 HP - which was underpowered. How realistic is 200 kW in a Fiero?
    One weakness I think I see in the Fiero as a platform for electrification is space for batteries - the floor very low to the ground, but it would be nice to maintain the car's general weight distribution between the axels.
    But the fiberglass body panels are a strength, the unibody frame is strong, and there are some nice big ashtrays in the center console ... wait, I wonder how much battery you can fit under that console where the fuel tank and transmission linkage normally are?

    Fiero's haven't seemed to hold much value but the batteries and electronics were probably costly. Sadly its hard to get the money invested out of a hobby project. Plus you made it sound like you got a deal so I'm guessing you paid less than 10K.

    • @RonGrosinger
      @RonGrosinger  3 місяці тому +1

      Well the whole Project's undervalued, it has an AC motor just like a tesla. Probably just needs upgraded batteries. This will be commonplace switching your classic car over to Electric drive.
      And the car was in really good shape. Also undervalued. Sometimes great cars are undervalued until people see the value later on in the market.

With this More Batteries. There are no rear seats. It's 'two people sitting inside of an engine.' ther'es no capacity to carry anything.

      My wife and I went Kent camping for 2 weeks in my fuel and had plenty of room for everything we needed. You just have to be creative and have a good mind for special relationships.
      When the energy and power density of batteries gets much higher, there will be plenty of room for cargo.
      The technology improvements in just a few years are very good. In a decade or 2, it will be phenomenal.
