Due to the vast land mass ratio to population, there is plenty of space for everyone! Everyone we met in Kuching lives in a landed property. Both city councils (north and south) does a good job in the upkeep of the city infrastructure, cleanliness and safety. Even during weekends at the malls, it can get crowded and jam at the pick up and drop off areas, but it's all handled smoothly. Suffice to say, we are very impressed.
Thanks for the follow-up video, especially for giving an insight into the Sarawak MM2H requirements! Not quite yet at retirement age (mid-40's), but I will look into Sarawak more closely over the next few years. Planning a 7-10 day trip in next 1-2 month to get a better feel!
The S-MM2H does allow those 30-59 years of age to reside in Sarawak...but as noted it n the video there are three additional requirements (besides the basic financial proofs and the 30- day stay requirements) that those over 50 do not need to abide by. Those 30-49 must EITHER 1) have children enrolled in a Sarawak International School; or 2)If without children, Purchase a residential property of RM600,000 (@$130,000). 3) If one has a ongoing medical issue treated by a Sarawak doctor or hospital/clinic with a regular schedule of treatments then one can apply under 30-49. One can use up to 40% of the fixed deposit for children's tuition, property purchase or medical expenses in Sarawak. One can also use the FD withdrawal for purchase of a car.

We already covered healthcare in our other videos for cost of living in Penang (Sarawak is pretty much the same). We covered infrastructure and other costs in the previous video to this one - cost of living in Kuching. Hope this helps!
True, this was due to the unexpected flood of applications (800%) after the Federal government upped the cost and requirements of the Federal MM2H. Originally it was about 3 months. They hope that the changes in MM2H will actually help ease the pressure, but they have made some administrative changes to speed up the processing. We'll see it it works.
That's the vibe that we get as well! You'd be surprised to see so many foreign retirees in Sarawak! From what we heard, the applications for SMM2H really increased post covid.
Yes, it went up 800% because the Peninsular MM2H changed their program for the worst. There is also a loophole that allows one to travel and "stay" (but not reside) in the Peninsula. It's not clear exactly what that means but many people stay semi-permanently in West Malaysia as long as they fulfill the 30 day/year in Sarawak rule. They may be facing a risk of they buy property in the West or stay too long (

Hi, thank you for the video. Quick question: What happens when govt. decides to freeze/ban MM2H visas? since you are not an actual citizen unless you go for Platinum tier in Federal MM2H, you are living like a tenant and if govt stops the visa renewal, you might be deported back from where you came from. For 49 + is any eligibility to work if needed
From what we heard, professionals are allowed to work with consent from the state secretary and also allowed to invest.
Generally one cannot work in Malaysia on a S-MM2H visa without government permission. Sarawak does allow 50+ to work part time in certain sectors where the visa holder can demonstrate special skills through certificate or degrees. The government mentions teaching or work that might require a foreign language not commonplace in Sarawak). So something like working with a tour agency because of French, Dutch, Spanish or Russian clients might be appropriate) Generally on-line work where the payment is made and placed abroad is permitted.
Hi do you know any agent that could help us apply this?
You can ask Ai Lyn, the lawyer who was in the video with us.
Do email us at corporatebreakout@gmail.com for her details
Understand that there is also a scheme for West Malaysian to retire in Sarawak.Hope you can video another list of requirements for West Malaysian.

Hello Couple, Great report! May I ask you if I can get information from Ai Lyn, or another authority about acquiring an MM2H visa? I did not pick up that Ai Lyn left any contact information, so if I may bug you to see if you have anything? Thanks
Hi! Sure, we've been receiving many emails from people wanting her contact. Kindly email us at corporatebreakout@gmail.com and we will pass you her contact details
I understand that the minimum stay period is 30 days but do we need to remain in Sarawak for 30 days before being allowed to go to other parts of Malaysia ?
No. It is accumulated 30 days
You mean that the time passed outside Sarawak but still in Malaysia does not count ?
@@francois2266 you just need to fulfill 30 days in Sarawak (accumulated, which means doesn't have to be 30 days in a row).
The rest of the time, you are free to stay in West Malaysia or other parts of the world
Can you provide me with the details of Singapore lawyer? Thanks
Certainly. Ai Lyn has requested that you email us at corporatebreakout@gmail.com and we will provide you her details
Hi, thank you for the video. Quick question:
What happens when govt. decides to freeze/ban MM2H visas? since you are not an actual citizen unless you go for Platinum tier in Federal MM2H, you are living like a tenant and if govt stops the visa renewal, you might be deported back from where you came from. Also, you can't work in a local company and can not vote. This feels high risk when you are deciding to settle in Malaysia with your family. What do you think about such risk?
Everything in life has risks.
This is no different.
If retiring in Malaysia on SMM2H is something that you want, then that decision will come with certain risks. Nothing in life is guaranteed except death.
HI Fran, if someone obtained the SMM2H, understand that the requirement is to at least stay 30 days in Sarawak in a year. With this visa, does the person able to continue to stay in West Malaysia (eg Penang) for more than 30 days?
That is what we know. To be 100% sure, best you seek for Ai Lyn's professional advice or any other SMM2H authorised agent.
After I watched your UA-cam, I became interested to retire in Sarawak. Can you pls recommend reliable agent/agents for applying SMM2H ??? I will greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a blessed day
Hi thanks for watching and we're glad to hear that.
We do not have contacts of any agents but you can go to the official website of SMM2H.

What are requirements to renew after 5 years?
Same as the 1st application
For Sarawak MM2H Are we required to buy a property if you are over 50?
@@mikek2337 according to Ai Lyn in the video, there is no such requirement for people over 50.
How much are those numbers in USD? Thanks
The exchange rate is 1 USD = RM4.69 as of today's rate.
I believe the retirement crisis will get even worse. Many struggle to save due to low wages, rising prices, and exorbitant rents. With homeownership becoming unattainable for middle-class Americans, they may not have a home to rely on for retirement either.
@@StephanieRebecca-0 perhaps this video might inspire them to move out of the American bubble and venture into the world. Not necessarily Sarawak.
Can you get Sarawak MM2H and then move/live in KL?
Yes, you just need to fulfil the stay in Sarawak 30 days in a year
We believe it was stated in the video. Do watch the whole thing for clarity sake

Income is required in addition to the fixed deposit for 50+ years old.
According to Ai Lyn, for 50 years old and above, there is no need to have a monthly income. The Fixed Deposit of RM300k per couple or RM150k per individual is the only requirements, besides clean bill of health.
However if you would like to double confirm this, best to check with an authorised migration agent in Sarawak

Why you wane retires in country, where the government will control your money and you have to obey many restrictions and no path to Permanent Residency or citizenship, except your money will be hostage to Malaysian government. Furthermore, how you can fill home in Malaysia, when government can change MM2H at any time and kick you out at any time. As we know, policies can change when government change.
