These are really helpful videos for home-bound people like me. It's great to know that we can recover even on our own if we have to. Like we don't have to beat ourselves up for the rest of our lives.
random person There are also online SMART meetings that are great for people who are home bound. I facilitate two online meetings with SMART and because of the microphone and video options (optional) I feel like I’m actually connecting with other people and I remember their faces and screen names. You might really like it!
I'm going to finish my novel - that's my VACI. Third day sober with the help of these vids, and going to my first online meeting this Thursday. SMART needs to exist in my country, Finland has a crazy addiction problem and doctors only ever talk about AA
"People love talking about themselves." No doubt. lol! But in all seriousness, who you expose yourself to, especially in the beginning of recovery, can be a slippery slope. Some people can be HUGE triggers to people attempting sober, sane living. If you simply have to go to an event of this nature, have an exit strategy. The natural inclination is to also talk about yourself. This can backfire and end up spilling over into TMI territory. It is a good time to listen and not much else. Other people's stories can be endearing or repellent. Either way, there is a lesson in there somewhere:)
In St Paul & Minneapolis MN, there is a Tool Library for wood working. Membership is nominal especially considering how much I spent on unhealthy behaviors in the past. They have classes to teach new skills, you can work with tools you don't have the $ for and/or you can check some tools out to use at home. Also, it gives me a new social outlet and a solid plan for evenings when I may be persuaded to slip up. www.mntoollibrary.org/
These used to exist all over. Unfortunately, due to liability issues, they are disappearing. But like you were saying, I used to spend a lot of money on poorer choices on the daily. Would have bought a warehouse of tools. In addition, garage sales are a great place to score good tools at a good price:) Keep dem hands bizzzzy!
