Aviation Training in Canada: A Century and More...

My paternal grandfather was an instructor in the RFC during the war. He had remustered from the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. My father told me that he was chosen because he could shoot accurately from horseback. Thankfully he was a pilot instructor not a combat fighter as I might not be writing this comment today. My maternal grandfather survived the 1 July, 2016 Battle of the Somme fiasco, where there were 3/4 casualties in his battalion, amongst other engagements right to till the end of the war. Thankfully he survived too! Lord have mercy!
