  • Ram Dass explores where "the gift of expanding consciousness" is taking us in terms of the way we actually lead our lives. He explains what it might look like, in practice, to live your life in a stable and awakened state. Lecture includes an extensive question and answer period.

We were teenage surfer kids trying to be enlightened in 1967 and Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert ( Ram Dass ) would walk around in front of The Mystic Arts World bookstore in Laguna Beach passing out legal Sandoz Laboratories pharmaceutical white lightening LSD tablets to anyone who wanted to see more than middle class American values . It was a magical time in the world and LSD was not yet illegal . You could go to a concert for fifty cents and see Big Brother and the Holding Company , Jimi Hendricks and Quiksilver Messenger Service and go surfing afterwards in the sunrise at Serena Point . So grateful to have come to earth at that time .

I had a disciple of Baba Ram Das come to me in 1977 when I had cancer he worked with me a few months (2). He is in rarified form in this lecture and that’s saying a lot because any one of his hundreds of lectures are magnificent. Rumors about him and that strange thing called LSD were rampant months before. His name was Richard Alpert then, and he teamed with Tim Leary. He and Timothy went off the deep end and came out the other side with a lot of interesting, positive things to say. I was saddened by news of the stroke and his passing. We could use his voice now. I've come to the conclusion in the last 24 hours that Ram Dass never knew he was enlightened and that's what made him so special to us as a teacher. You'll never hear any other teacher talk about their battles along the journey, you just hear them say do this and do that, don't do this and don't do that etc. But I feel Maharaji knew that the western people needed to be taught in a western way and that was no big deal because In reality it's all good. So here we have the manifestation Neem Karoli Baba's teaching through the incarnation of Ram Dass. Its all The will of God , it's all God!

I have been many persons you see and non of those is the real me. I have found me now, the I. That is something steady and it doesn’t change, it is always here. But the illusion is still covering I many times a day and sometimes I wake up from something I lived as me after a week so..
Dwelling in I is only thing I know is real. But there is no desire or no push to do or go anywhere. Yet. So all I am is what I am now. But the rest is nothing. I don’t want to build another false sense of me. This message is painted also with the person, yet the person is what I want to vanish.

May all beings everywhere be happy, may all beings everywhere be peaceful, may all beings everywhere be free.
May all beings everywhere awaken to the light of their inherent divinity, consciousness, oness, truth.

Suffering is and compassion is, there's nothing personal about it

Basically what Buddhist said was pain is inevitable that’s the truth. But suffering is a choice. We choose suffering big cause we believe the gods will look down on us feel sorry for yourself and heal us. That’s not true if you want the guards to be on your side simply laugh and laugh along with you. I’ve known ROM-DOS for a long time Merriman California met him again in Tampa he was a psychologist his real name is Richard Albert one of the most brilliant people to ever come out of Stanford university. He got in light in India and gave up the LSD and decided to become a servant of God and serve all of us he’ll be gone but not forgotten his memory lives on to be in the present moment as we all should be

This was released in 1996, the following year Ram Dass had a stroke.
I found the, _”who am I judge another mans karma.”_ and the telling a sick person to, _”leave their ego and go be with their soul,”_ to be remarks from someone who hadn’t lived with illness.
In 2004, several years after his stroke, he had this to say about illness,
_”"All illnesses are part of the passing show," he said. "You are not just your body. You are the witness of your body. And you're actually both. When I had the stroke, there was pain, severe pain in my shoulders. And I went through the pain to witness it.”_
If you’ve not gone through illness, I can imagine it looks like the payment of a karmic debt. But illness is the passing of seasons, a change in the weather. Indiscriminately unpredictable.
    Ram Dass is forever growing.
