I have same car ml 350 2004. I need to replace the starter. Can you provide details about this item ? Part number, brand ,.. / recommended replacement brand. And any online link for online supplier. I want to buy this starter and keep it ready for replacement. . Thanks
Ohmagawd I got in the car. I couldn’t get the key to work before I think because I wasn’t using enough finesse. I kept on tugging gently while keeping constant pressure on the key in the lock, the inside lock pull started to wiggle so I kept on doing it and the lock gently unlocked. I still hate Mercedes-Benz 😉
So my Benz is an 06. I take off the wheel and the plastic wheel well and there is nothing but metal behind it. I cannot access the starter. My battery is dead. The remote won’t work, and I am essentially locked out of my car because I cannot access one damn thing on this freaking car. I hate Mercedes Benz. The only way to get into it is a call Mercedes-Benz and spend 500 bucks to have “experts” do it. I don’t have 500 freaking dollars God dammit
I have an 03’ ML350, car runs great engine and transmission . But I feel like it does coast or roll very well. For example when you give it gas.. and let off of the gas pedal… it doesn’t coast and it comes to a stop too fast. On my 95’ ford Econoline and 08’ Nissan rouge, I can make a trip around the block without giving it gas, just under its own idle power at about 5-10 mph once I let off of the gas pedal. But in the Mercedes, I could barely make it to the end of the street on my block just coasting. I feel like this isn’t right but I don’t have another ML to compare it to. Can you tell me if this is normal for this car or not?
I drove mine last night bud and I have no issues. Mine coasts without any issues. I would look for seized caliper because that would cause similar issues. Hope it helps. Cheers.
Okay so my w163 was fine, my son drove to his girlfriend's house, shut it off and now nothing...bright lights, no warnings in the odometer but nothing when I try to start it...doesn't dim lights and no spark when hooking up a jump starter...so I'm assuming the starter 🤦🏽
Hi Bonita, it does sound like a bad starter but I would also check to make it's not a bad connection to the grounds or battery cables! Easy way to test the starter is by hitting it with a hammer, sometimes that works and you can easily pin point if that's the problem or just use a multimeter to test voltage supply at the stater terminal to narrow it down. Hope it helps. 👍
Hi Lysander, thank you! I am in B.C Canada. I replaced mine with FVP starter and it's been running great since last June. I would recommend it as I've had no quality issue at all. Hope it helps. 👍
@stp4tiger I have V6 bud so for me the job was a lot easier than the V8. Cutting the manifold is an extreme way to do it, I think your idea of extension is much better and effective. I would do the same way you suggested, take off the mount and safely raise the motor as much as possible, hopefully will be enough space to remove the starter. I am on the west coast and the weather here in Vancouver is not as bad to work on cars even through the winter, fortunately. Good luck.
