- In this episode, we talk about how americans and Japanese people see the weather differently. It may seem like an obscure topic, but it really has an important cultural lesson.
We talked about how Japanese people have no hesitation to use umbrellas or complain about the weather, but people in the USA tend to see that a sign of weakness and so they dont use umbrellas so much.
We also talked about alot of other terms and ideas about the weather in Japan. It’s important if youre thinking of living here anytime soon.

i totally agree with how japanese houses don't have enough thermal insulation.

I grew up in London UK, and lived in NYC(tecnically NJ) once. But everyone is saying exactly same things about umbrellas and amaze me how I am Japanese.

アメリカCAに住んでいる日本人です。いつも楽しく聞かせてもらっています。天気の話、面白かったです。日本人って天気の話しますよね、CAに住み始めたばかりの時、「いい天気ですね」って挨拶の度に言ってました。毎日いい天気な街なんですがね😂
1月だから寒いの当たり前なのに寒いって文句を言う日本人！笑ってしまいました😂日本人にとって天気は人と出会った時のスモールトークなんですよね。What’s upのような「最近どう？」だと最近の様子を話さなきゃいけないというプレッシャーを相手に与えるかも？私の近況なんて話したくないなってときもあると無駄に心配しちゃうかもで、日本人はお互いのプライベートなことに踏み込まず話を膨らますことも簡単に終わらせることもできる天気の話は、相手の気持ちも考慮した高コンテキストならではの現象かなと。晴れ男、雨女も鉄板話題ですよね😂ちなみにアメリカに住んで10年私は傘を持っていません☂️

傘をさして生きるのか、傘をささないで生きるのか。が、日本人として生きるのかの覚悟に聞こえるとても良い動画です。日本では傘をさして生きてください。
The calm tone of news forecasts or evacuation announcements is because people are taught to be calm because impulsive behavior sometimes makes it hard to make rational decisions, and newscasters are trained to convey information calmly so as not to cause such anxiety.
Maybe, talking/thinking about the weather is in our blood since most of our ancestors were farmers. Also I just realized we have so many idioms that have some weather related words in it.
Japan is seen as such a safe country and I think it's true. But, umbrella is not the case.
I have had a lot of umbrellas stolen in the past.
I don't know why we loose morals when it comes to an umbrella...
