    Clear and to the point. Apparently we collected so much lint down there that it started interfering with the filter going all the way back in. Everything in working order now, thanks!

    Thank you for making this tutorial video...I'd taken my dryer lint area apart to clean it - but I didn't know the screws were different sizes and I'd hadn't tightened back together well...the result was that my clothes were catching onto this area where there were tiny gaps...after watching your video I was able to dis-assemble, then re-assemble correctly, again, thanks!

    Thanks! I've been cleaning the lint mess since 2017 using a configured coat hanger, then a 12" hemostat (still not long enough), and flashlight. Today, figured out where the screws are, and your video showed more and the moisture sensor. The base problem, of course, is that the LG filter is junk, always passes lint to the back side and down into that gully. Thanks again!

    Thanks a bunch! I had a slightly different LG model where the interior “grating” was one piece instead of 2, but the functions were practically the same. The reservoir the lint had gotten in to was more shallow than yours, as well. Lots of lint out from the dryer, plus lots of lint out from the exterior of the house. Wouldn’t have been able to do this without your helpful video…so thanks! Saved me $$$!

    FYI, you do NOT need to remove the 2 screws on the front. Just the on the inside. I got this far on my own but was trying to see if there is a way beyond this the clean further inside. Great video though!

    • @cfldriven
      @cfldriven  3 роки тому +3

      Sarah, in reviewing the video I see that you are correct, there is no need to undo the 2 front screws. Thank you sharing your find. To clean further you'd have to get the front panel off, but blower doesn't get much build up. Lint builds up mostly below the lint filter and at exhaust vent.

      @@cfldriven since the screw driver method is way above my pay grade I spent a half hour using a stick, a coat hanger and a knife (I have seen other LG "fixes" on other products that involve knife play) to loosen the cat hair-like lint glob (80-year-old prevous house owner never cleared it down there, but can't blame him really) down there. Took forever because no normal crevice tool reaches that deep. Now on to fixing the ice maker bin that has stuck ice at the bottom that prevents removal of the bin that you take out WHEN THE ICE MAKER IS STUCK.

    My DLEX3900B LG dryer is a little different than yours, but it's similar enough that your instructions were quite helpful. In my case, I pulled out the entire housing and disconnected the moisture sensor. The housing was made in two halves which separated by popping a pair of plastic tabs. This enabled me to wash the lint out of the housing, which I then reassembled (watching that the flap worked - Thank you). Pulling the housing was worthwhile in my case... It helped in getting my vacuum's crevice tool in far enough to do the job. Glad to have a clean dryer!

    On mine, the two screws in the front have nothing to do with the lint trap. They only hold on the front panel to the inner frame of the dyer. You don't have to remove them to get the lint trap out. For the record the two screws in the front are the short ones. The four in the back are the longer ones and all four are the same length.

      @@cfldriven, now I found out you only need to remove three of the back side screws to get the trap assembly out. The two on the outer edges, and the the one on the bottom left center when you are facing the dryer. The bottom right screw holds in the moisture sensing assembly and it best to leave that in. A word to the wise: just very gently snug up the screws when you replace the trap assembly. Over tightening the screws will enlarge the holes in the sheet metal of the dryer, and you will have to keep increasing the size of the screws as the holes wear. I hope I will be able to clean out the screened trap assembly without removing it from the dryer as just taking the screws in and out will gradually enlarge the holes.

    I took my lint trap out and have added some weather seal tape to see if I can get the leaks stopped. LG really needs to redesign this is a way that prevents the lint from leaking around the trap. The present design is rather poor, to put it politely.

    • @cfldriven
      @cfldriven  5 років тому

      I just wish the manufactures made it easier to get the lint out. Thank you for sharing.

    • @JoeLinux2000

      @@cfldriven The lint filter and the lint trap assembly must be properly sealed in the first place. Lint cannot be allowed to bypass the filter and make it's way into the iner workings of the dyer.
      In addition to adding weather stripping to the lint filter, I have glued plastic window screen to the bottom side of the lint trap assembly, using 3M auto emblem adhesive. This is a secondary screen which should catch at least some of the lint that makes it past the filter itself. I'm waiting to do a load to see how effective this will be. I still have more options.
      I can add an additional screen to the open side of he lint trap assembly which is open on one side. This screen will probably only come up around two inches or so to enable removing lint easily. LG should have gasketed the lint trap assembly where it meets the metal dryer walls. Secondly they should have designed the assembly in a way that it could be easily snapped in an out without the need to remove screws in the interior of the dryer. The lint screen should have also been gasketed in a way that prevented the leakage of any air around the screen.
      If the small additional screen is not enough, I still have the option to design a cheese cloth bag that can go over the lint trap assembly which would be effective in trapping additional lint.
      LG could actually design a snap in door under the lint trap assembly in the face of the dryer that could be opened up to allow vacuuming the lint out under the assembly. I am considering making such an additional door myself.
      For such an expensive dryer, LG has done a miserable job with the design of the lint filter, and should design a retrofit filter assembly that would actually be effective at catching lint. This is really not as difficult as placing a man on the moon, and does not require exceptional engineering expertise. Many devises have effective filters.
      One idea I had is to actually pipe the air outside the front of the dryer and use something like a furnace filter, or a shop vac fllter. The filtered air of course would have to be recirculated back inside the dryer for reheating the air. However they do it, it could be done much more effectively than it is now.
      Also cleaning the main filters and secondary filter of which there are none presently should be a much easier task.
      I like dryers that have the lint filter at the bottom side of the door, but LG's execution would have to be rated as an almost complete failure. Too much lint is escaping the ineptly designed filter assembly.

    • @JoeLinux2000
      @JoeLinux2000 5 років тому +2

      Yesterday I glued another screen to the back side of the trap assembly. It goes up about 3 or 4 inches, but i can still get my fingers down to the bottom of the assembly to remove any lint that escapes the actual filter. I'm running a load now, and will report what happened after the modifications. It would be ideal if i could get the lint out of the screened trap assembly by reaching through the flap. (Not the lint that collects on the removable lint screen but the lint that works its way around the lint screen into the dryer.)

    • @JoeLinux2000
      @JoeLinux2000 5 років тому +1

      I'm not fully satisfied with my modifications. I need a softer weather strip seal on the front side of the LG designed lint screen, and I may need to add another piece of window screen to the back of the trap assembly. Lint is making its way to the top of my added screen which does not come clear to the top of the trap assembly. I don't know why LG is not doing this design work and experimentation themselves. They have many more resources than I have. They could actually design a replacement screen that fits snugly into the trap, doesn't leak, and actually catches all the lint. I'm limited to modifying their ill-fitting design which leaks lint terribly as they supplied it.

    • @JoeLinux2000
      @JoeLinux2000 5 років тому +1

      Picture of softer weather stripping. I believe this will seal the flter within the assembly.
      drive.google.com/file/d/1xbUL18ljAvIkz9B91JaCx2ILRlUurDNg/view?usp=sharing
      It's just a soft foam tape that is pushed into the crack of the screen frame. The previous version was too hard of a rubber strip, and it did not compress as easily.

    Those lint screens aren't all that great though, as not only does lint get past them, but with enough use the felt strip that's supposed to keep lint from going past it can end up coming off and going missing. Seems like they could have done better by putting a sliding tray on the bottom (where the lint naturally gathers anyways) instead of having a not all that effective panel inside the main door.
    But thanks for showing how to get in there. I'll have to see if it's the same on my somewhat older Kenmore (LG) model.

    • @cfldriven
      @cfldriven  3 роки тому

      It a balancing act for the filter between capturing so much lint that it clogs before the cycle is over and not capturing enough resulting in the hard to reach parts getting coated with lint. Your certainly right that having better and easier access to those areas would help. On a positive not, it seems the newer machines are less prone to littering the inside of the machine with lint.
