    That method of driving eyebolts is excellent. Very clever!

    Brilliant. I whacked out a set of these corners this evening and they worked a treat. Thanks a lot.

    Finally! I was looking just for this project! It'll definitely be a big help while I continue to work with Woody Hyezmar's plans which I found on his website.

    Good idea! but is rubber band's are strong enough to clamp the picture frame together?

  • @RallyDon82
    @RallyDon82 10 років тому +1

    i am guessing those grooves on the outside edges is for adding further clamping force maybe using a piece of string or something and just twisting it at the point it meets and hey presto no?

    Nice/neat, clean approach, and clever simple way to screw the eye bolts! The limitation/weakness of the rubber bands would be my only concern. Gives me an idea of taking it further by replacing the screw eyes / eye-hooks with 3/8" HOLES, and haveing a continuous 1/4" to 5/16" cord running through, around each corner to a spool, that can be chucked in a cordless drill and quickly tensioned/loosened. I guess the Merle Clamp already does something similar, but this hybrid of your version might be superior, and more DIY-able.

    will need 3 or 4 diff lengths of rubber bands I think I'll stay with the band clamp but always fascinating to watch his videos

    Good video but a suggestion. Cut the corners off and make them flat and you can use a clamp from corner to corner too. Also in the kerf around the edges you can use a 1/8" bungee cord to help hold frame more secure.

    Driving the eyelets is so cleverly done, I laughed out loud at how genius it was yet so obvious (now that I have seen it).

  • @paullyons7621

    When the springs attached to one of your blocks exert different tensions - as they will when the width and height of the frame are not the same - then the corner blocks will tend to overbalance (as was apparent in the video). You could reduce that tendency by placing the eyes closer to the frame.

  • @fitulus

    @Justin Pang If you use more bands then the force will be ok.
    There is a video you can lookup here on youtube where you will find a watermelon exploded by rubberbands that where around the watermellon in the middle.

    Nice simple jig! Are the outside slits you cut for band(a) to slip into for much larger or smaller clamping? Thanks for sharing.

    it's very cool!!! but wouldn't it be better to have the straps and a tightening device, though? Will the rubber bands hold it well enough? without proper tension, the frames might end up crooked, wouldn't they?
    Take care, mate! =)

  • @ww55d

    What was the intention begin the grooves along the outside edges? I was left thinking those would be for some additional clamping after the rubber bands.

    • @TomHowbridge
      @TomHowbridge 10 років тому

      I agree the groves on the outside could support say a bungee cord or something similar

    • @SJSchenck1961
      @SJSchenck1961 9 років тому +2

      ww55d Maybe a wider groove and curve the outside corners then you could use a strap clamp. The rubber bands could still be used as an alignment tool and holding it together when you apply the strap clamp.

    • @TomHowbridge
      @TomHowbridge 9 років тому

      Steven, would that not defeat the object though as a strap clamp already has corner pieces to slot on the corners ?!

    • @TomHowbridge
      @TomHowbridge 9 років тому +1

      Unless you mean like using one of those one used for strapping things down in which case is a good idea. I thought you meant. An actual band clamp intentionally used for it btw. I'm up late so if this is hard to understand I hear ya ! :)

    • @SJSchenck1961
      @SJSchenck1961 9 років тому +1

      I guess I ment to say a ratcheting strap tie down clamp like you would use to hold down cargo on a trailer. It could be used if you made these corner pieces. Most everyone has a strap tie down laying around.
