One of the biggest problems with vintage solid-state pinball games is damage to the circuit boards from leaking batteries. Here I show you how to install a remote battery pack so the batteries are away from the sensitive circuit boards, eliminating the possibility of them leaking electrolyte and causing corrosion and other damage to the pinball machine's electronics.

What is the purpose of the batteries on the board anyways? I thought the board boots even if the batteries aren't working.

Jenn Kilborn It does, but the memory on these older machines is in the form of random access memory, or RAM, which requires a trickle charge to retain the stored memory, which in a pinball machine is high scores and custom settings. RAM is used instead of a more permanent memory system because it is cheaper and allows the storage/retrieval of data much faster. Also, memory on computers that didn't need batteries wasn't released until 1995 anyways.
