I bought this same part for my Mossberg except with ghost sights and I put it all together but it wouldn't go on my shotgun. Watched the video and saw you kept the end loose to put it on. Loosened the end and it went on. Thank you! Great video!
Just an FYI for those asking some questions about the forward creep after firing and quality issues as well as the barrel length and fit. Here are some quick notes. ATI has upgraded the halo shield and anyone that purchased older versions can contact ati cs to have an updated adapter to prevent the creep at no charge. ATI has resolved all quality issues with then gen 2 version. To avoid getting an old version of it and having issues. Spend the extra coin and buy directly from ati to avoid issues
great job, want to get a heat shield for mine and I have a feeling it will take me more time that it did for you, but I will follow your guide. Thank You for your time, enjoyed it!
I have 2 pieces of 1/4" fuel line that I slide over the tips on my needle nose pliers to prevent scratching the same way you did with the tape. Actually the reason why I did it the first time was because I needed to pinch off some tubing at work and I didn't have the proper hose pinching tool. The same pieces of 1/4" tube can also be slipped over my needle nose vice grip pliers witch I used to pinch off the tubing.
Mine came with the kit... but I know you can buy parts from Cheaper Than Dirt. I do loosen the heatshield bolts a turn or 2 to remove the barrel and get it back on... the cost of tactical coolness. If you fully tighten the heatshield you will not be able to get the barrel on and off.
Also, the heat shield will fit an 18.5 inch barrel, however will not fit a breaching style mossberg according to ati, although I still want to see if its poss and will look forward to trying. Hope this helps
While you have an issue with people calling a hex key an Allen wrench, I have an issue with people calling the jaws of pliers, "blades". However, I do enjoy the project videos. Thanks.
Eno, I have really found your videos quite useful. I have a very similar Mossberg 500 model as what you used in this video. I also have the extended magazine tube. So I ordered the same ATI Halo Heat Shield as you installed. I pull out the instructions and in red letters near the top of the instructions it says this heat shield will not fit Mossberg 500 shotguns with OEM extended magazine tubes due to the barrel lug. But it looks like you had no problem installing it. Did your ATI say that?
Brother, I have a question and I am hoping you can answer it. I am making most of the modifications that you talk about in your Mossberg 500 -- I am doing the Halo Heatshield, the ATI Talon stock, etc. My question is the heatshield. I have the exact Mossberg 500 with extended magazine (7+1) as you, and my heatshield came with short picatinny rail sections to apply to the left and right side of the front of the heat shield. Except it doesn't fit. When I went to ATI's web site, the Mossberg 500 Halo Heatshield notes at the bottom of the web page that it "DOES NOT FIT with the Manufacturer's Extended Magazine Tube." I called ATI and they said they do not have anything that would fit or adapt to the extended magazine tube and warned that the heatshield would edge or vibrate forward after the shooting the gun because of the recoil and because the heatshield isn't secured to the end of the tube, etc. So, my questions are: How have you been able to make it fit? Do you have any recommendations on how to make my heatshield fit my 500?
There is a collar on the breach end of the Mossberg 500 barrel.... just install the clamp flush with the lip of the collar. I you look @5:30 in the vid you can easily see that lip.
What's the length of the heat shield? I have a Mossberg 500 with a barrel that measures 14.5 inches from the back of the door breach to where the barrel connects to the back of the shotgun.
ATI has definately stepped up their game and have began making quality products and even though they make mistakes, they resolve the issues immediately fix the issue and are willing to work with any customer. The older version of this shield was crap even the older version with plastic ghost rings.... now its all cnc and much betterquality. Im done!
Thanks for the info. Excellent vid. Just 1 question.... How do you know where exactly to position the rear clamp and shield on the barrel? Is it adjustable if you initially install it too far in either direction? Thanks again.
Quick Question. Could you point me in the direction to where i can find the smaller picatinny rail you used in this video? I have this exact mossberg 500 persuader, and bought this exact heat shield, but as you mentioned, I need the smaller ones instead of the large ones the heat shield comes with, but Im having trouble finding them anywhere...
@@gloriaamani9088 I emailed mossberg and attached a photo of this video, this was the response "That is our heatshield but we no longer offer it to the consumer. It only is available to Mossberg at this time.". So unfortunately no. Please let me know if you get any info. Thanks
Quick Questionm: I am attempting to add a Magpul forend on a M500 w/ Mossberg heat shield. The project is not going well. Does this ATI Halo heatshield work with the Magpul forend ...? Thanks for your time.
Same question as Gibran - I installed the same on my Mossberg FLEX 590 Tactical 12ga shotgun with 20" barrel. The entire heat shield moves forward about 3/4" after firing about 4 or 5 shells, preventing the full retraction of the forend/forearm. Thus, not fully ejecting the spent shell. Loosened it, pushed it back in place, tightened it as much as possible. Same thing happens after another 4-5 shots. Have you found a remedy for this? BTW, thanks so much for the very informative videos.
I have a question. Will this work on both the standard barrel they give you and if say I bought a 28inch barrel? Or would I need a bigger heat shield if they sell different sizes. I'm new to this.
Now the million dollar question. How do you apply oil to your barrel to keep it from rusting with that heat shield on there. It get's kind of humid here in Ohio during the warm months and shotgun barrels tend to rust.
BikerDude1953 like all my guns it goes thru brake down and clean intervals. Ohio aint much difference climate wise than here, never had rust problems with any gun.
Website says this wont fit on the 500 manufacturer extended magazine tube. I have the 20' barrel with a tube just as long. Will it work for my 500? Sorry im a newbie at this haha.
Yes... but threadlocker is not needed. Greasing the bolt with allow a higher torque without the threads deforming, and will prevent galling, so the bolt will be tighter, and it won't come loose. Also, anytime you have 2 different metals (steel bolt threading into aluminum) always use grease.
Does anyone have any issue with this specific heatshield and a Magpul forend? I know there are issues with stock headshield and the fit but the way it floats im curious if its smoother and no modifications need to be done with all the customizations
I just received my ati deluxe heat shield , I am planing to put it on my mossberg 500 same style you have. When I opened the box I realized that I came with 3 flat head screws but they were all the same size (short) and that the small rails were missing. Is there any way you can tell me the size of the larger flat head screw and where can I find the two small rails? can u be specific with the name. I tried looking everywhere for them but I didn't have any luck. Thank u
I bought one of these for mine and it falls off/comes loose after about 30 rounds. I even tried cutting the front screws short so I could tighten them down better before they bottom out but it's still not reliable

I called ATI HQ in Wisconsin. They say it’s been discontinued with no reason why. There has to be some company who has this for my Mossburg 500 12 g ThankX in advance
How close does the heatshield hug the barrel? I'm looking at putting high viz fiber optic sights on mine and I wanna know it they will clear the height of the heatshield so incase the sights won't clear it then I'll look into different sights

Love the Kershaw being used as a pointer :)
Hahahaha hey man that was pretty slick how fast you got that adhesive on that round clip thing!! Excellent!!

Very helpful instruction, a real plus over the printed instructions that come with the product. Keep the expertise coming!

I had one on my M88 and it basically fell apart in less than a year. I’d stick with the Mossberg brand heat shields.
The Mossberg heat shield looks much better to me and easier to install as well.
Thanks. I bought a 500 Persuader last weekend with the 18.5" barrel and am going to put a shield on it this weekend
Ordering it tomorrow. Easy-to-follow video bro. Thanks very much!
Thank bro about the tip about tightening at the end it really help

Gotta love the 500s =D
It will yes, Mavvy 88s are Mossy 500 copies.
Holy shit someone called the tool the right name.
Did you shot it yet? Did the halo heatshield hold? I would like to see an update...
I want to see a 10 year following up please

If I have this installed can I swap barrels easily? I swap from 18.5 to 28 inch barrels depending on the type of shooting I’m doing.
Thank you!
I think it does... I'll have to check

Did u find the part number? I checked ATI website, the one there looks different!!!

Great explanation 👍 how did you like it once in action? Did it move at all?
Totally cool man Thanks!!!
Please shot the damn thing with all your accessories on the shotty. Would love to know if accessories held in place.
I do loosen it a bit.
Nice video. BUT would that fit on the 18 in barrel. I cant see that it won't
Can you tell me where i can buy the same Heatshield that you put in your Barrel

Did you ever find out the answer? I have the same question. I have a 28 inch vented barrel i want to put it on.

Did you really grease the locktight?
Is this friendly with magpul furniture?
I wonder is it possible to add a pic rail on top of the heat sheild
stupid question, but will adding grease to threads that have locktight on them defeat the locktight?
Yes... but threadlocker is not needed. Greasing the bolt with allow a higher torque without the threads deforming, and will prevent galling, so the bolt will be tighter, and it won't come loose. Also, anytime you have 2 different metals (steel bolt threading into aluminum) always use grease.
Do you think this will fit the heavy barrel models?
Great vid! thanks

Loctite?
Wont that rubber buffer at the end of the barrel by the receiver catch on fire after 30-40 shells?
BluOp Not a chance
Will this heat shield work on a the Mossberg Door Breacher model???
If I want to remove the heat shield, do I just do the complete opposite?
Hello, can it be installed in a Mavericks 88 also? Thanks
Does anyone know if the ATI Halo Heatshield will fit on an 18.5" barrel with a muzzle break?
how long is the barrel of that shotgun?cause it says in the website that it wont fit 18"barrels.
Can you use magpul for end with this
What's the length? Thinking of putting one on a shockwave.
@594bolt if he had one... He'd use it
What's the item number for this Heatshield? Thanks
Will this work on a 20 gauge field barrel.. Mossberg 500 A1? Also what model is in the vid?
Hey you still using that heat shield 😂, I'll buy it. They discontinued and nowhere to be found

@Victor Huerta should fit
Are you saying pickin tinny rail?
Once I finish the project, I'll do a final recap video and go over all the items I purchased and the cost.
Thanks for watching!!!
The ATI website says it is not for the Maverick 88...
anyone see the orb floating down from the top right of the screen, near the heat shield?
anyone know if you can still find this heat shield anywhere
I see a lot of money wasted in packaging you pay for. Is it metal or poly?
It's a heat shield what do you think?
@@bbyers8741 I think it's a heat shield but no idea what it's made of unless it's in my hands. I ended up with a poly.
has the shield moved after firing the gun?
Maybe it's because I got the 870 by accident (installed it anyways) but I didn't have half those bloody stickers. ;(
will this fit on an 18 inch barrel?
Will this fit a Remington 870?
Can I buy one for 14” barrel on a 590a1
Can you change barrels out easley
too bad they dont sell these anymore
:)
@under13us :)
That thing is going too slide foreword in time.
To be honest a product with so many adhesive parts leaves me disinterested. Good video though.
How close does the heatshield hug the barrel? I'm looking at putting high viz fiber optic sights on mine and I wanna know it they will clear the height of the heatshield so incase the sights won't clear it then I'll look into different sights

will that ATI-HALO heat-shield fit on Mossberg 590A1?
Will this fit on the M500 Chainsaw model?
