- They both have now reached a point where they are 10+ years old, knowing how much hate the FX lineup received throughout it's lifetime and on the other hand how much the 1155 CPUs were praised, you may be interested to see an updated comparison between two legendary CPUs.
These fx processors were really slept on, as time went on the dual core i3s and quad core i5s started to choke whereas the similar 6300 and 8350 fx were way more solid and smoother.
Sorry for not including average figures till the end of the FC6 benchmark, an editing mistake 😅
Fx6300 was allways (price wise) an i3 competitor. Fx83xx series were the ones competing with i5...
To me the fx cpu aged really well... To see a 10% gap between cpus is a much closer call than what it was in 2012...
Last but not least... Fx6300 are pretty easy to overclock even on a mid range 970 mobo with aircooling solution, while that i5 is locked... So you have the chance of pushind the fx6300 even to modest 4ghz/4.2turbo (fx8350 stock clock) and get a performance improvement for free
Difference between Ryzen 5 1600 and Ryzen 5 5600 in games? A huge one!
I think the FX were still ok for their time, despite showing less fps with high end GPUs, a Ryzen 5 5600 gets double the FPS of an FX 6300 paired with the same RTX 3080, 180fps vs. 80fps in some games, I think that Ryzen 5 1600 is somewhere in the middle compared with FX 6300 and Ryzen 5 5600.
If the mobo can support 3rd gen vfm upgrade is E3 1230V2, if not E3 1270, cheap xeons for old 1155 systems. (around 25-30 euro)
- The i5 is only faster in DX11 games and when it isn't being asked to do much. As soon as you get to Novigrad in The Witcher, the gap closes, even with the 6300 at base clocks.
- Additionally, the STOCK config for all FX CPUs is unlocked and overclockable. But you did not do that at all. When properly tuned, the FX CPU gains a LOT of performance, for substantially less money than the i5. Look at the Official AMD FX Tuning Guide for more info.
- You also need to use proper RAM. Testing FX on 1333 or 1600 will handicap it. And for that $70 price difference, you could easily get DDR3 2133, a better Motherboard, and big cooler..
Clearly the i5 is still a better CPU, has a better single core performance that games like. I'm just impressed that FX 6300 is more expensive than the i5 still.
I don't really understand the prices either, the 8350 is more expensive then a 3770 while the 3770 can easily veat it, guess the 8 core marketing still holds up even in 2022 😅
Its because of its 6-core label. Same thing with 8300
it's because Intel sold 10 to 1 what AMD sold back in the day, so there is a much bigger supply of intel CPUs in the second hand market, meaning that there is more competition to undersell.
Probably because of the core count numbers but if Windows 10 and 11 are correct the 6300 is actually 3 real cores and the 8300 is 4 real cores. The others are some efficiency cores or something idk what they are really called
@@Mirra2003-f9s They aren't efficiency cores. The cores within each module of Bulldozer/Piledriver are the same, they just share resources. It was AMD's answer to intel's hyper-threading.
The problem is that sharing resources introduces delays and on top of that software is not optimized for such architecture, leaving their performance much lower than it should have been.
It also doesn't help that Global Foundry said that 32nm would be a lot smaller and better than it actually was, so AMD had to reduce the transistor count and thus IPC of Bulldozer by 22%.
The FX 83XX has 4 Modules/8 Cores. The FX63XX has 3 Modules/6 Cores. The cores are equal to each other. They share L2 cache, L3 cache, fetch and decoders, along with the FPU.
it would be interesting to see how the revised CPU, the FX-6350, has fared. piledriver supposedly fixed many of the shortcomings of the bulldozer architecture.
FX 6300 IS Piledriver. FX 6350 is just higher clocked and higher TDP variant of it. FX 6100 has Bulldozer architecture.
you misunderstand, @@RudolfSikorsky , i'm aware the FX-6350 is piledriver (vishera iirc), but if a minor OC of the 6300 helped surprisingly so as many other people know, then the higher clocked 6350 might be a decent test since it's base is 3.9Ghz and it is easy to get to 4.4+ Ghz, with it which makes it a bit strange that it was clocked much lower than possible.
the sentence piledriver supposedly fixed many of the shortcomings of the bulldozer architecture is a separate statement, and wasn't clear.
FX-6300 was the very first cpu I bought with my own hard earned money when I started building computers. It was also the cpu where I started learning how to overclock, and it was a beast at over clocking! Lasted me many years until i finally switched to a 6700k.
Nah, you're wrong. I mean, not about the numbers or the used pricing, but I gamed with no problems on many titles (NieR: Automata is incredibly CPU intensive on this tier, at least, but it also manages to heat up my current Ryzen) 'til two months ago. Besides your other settings are not displayed. GPU and resolution, specially. Lower resolutions will put load on the CPU while higher will put it on the GPU... So, as I said: FX6300 worked for me and you're not telling the whole story here. As for the rest, if anyone's getting ANY of these CPUs, it better be for really cheap, they're both incredibly old.
No way the fx 6300 did this well... jesus
All in all, it didn't do as bad as many have expected, sill it's worserthen even the 1 year older i5, I believe the 3570 would wipe the flor with it
@@Gaming_Assassin_ The 3570 is only 7% faster than the 2500, but the 4670/90 might be a different story.
The 4th gen intel cpus were really rock solid performers, a nice send off for the ddr3 platform after which they switched to ddr4...
The i7 4790 is still a decent cpu even today, of course if the price is right
@@Gaming_Assassin_ yup, haswell was a bigger step up in performance than ivy bridge was. And with good low latency DDR3 the i7 4790 still a solid chip to this day.
DDR3 is dirt cheap nowadays, I have a vouple of sticks laying around that could do well for a nice pc, but every ddr3 pc I have is filled up with RAM, all 4 slots taken 😅
Despite considered old tech, DDR3 systems can still be used for a decent gaming machine on a budget
Still using my 2500K with an Asus motherboard.
just buy FX-6300 for $8.5 last month. OC to 4.3Ghz with 1.35v I'ts a good CPU for playing 60fps AAA game.
today i picked up a ryzen 5 pc with an rx 570 for 200€, it has a 500gb ssd and a 1tb hdd, buy used pcs fellas!
Fr, I found a GTX 980 Ti for £100
In sweden they sold a Amd 6 core FX6350 ( and edit here) and a gaming pc for Battlefield 4 - I was consider it since one got the game wtih the pc but in hindsight -One cant buy a pc to play one game only at mediocer fps
I think the 2600k aged far better.
not having 8 threads on the 2500k really hurt the long term performance.
Yeah 2600 and 3770 are still very decent CPUs, the i5's are just about hanging on but showing their weakness in many games
what gpu do you use for the benchmark?
RX 570 4GB, but I don't think it matters a lot since I tried to put as much stress as possible on the CPUs using lower settings and reoslutions
i used to have an fx-8350 with a gtx 960, pretty sure it even bottlenecked a 960 LOL
it didn't, because I had a fx 6300 and r9 380 and it ran great until 2017, when I upgraded to Ryzen.
@@ivankovachev8835it all depends on what resolution and settings you use and what games you play. Obviously playing Valorant would give you a cpu bottleneck out the ass using a FX 8350
Can you clean the processor from the paste next time?
Sure, once you learn to clean your GPUs :)
@@Gaming_Assassin_ At least I don't upload a clip for gpu on UA-cam
@@Adler_ Because you don't even know hlw to edit a video 😅
@@Gaming_Assassin_ yes, but I know how to apply the paste so that it doesn't overflow
Ajde bre ne seri decko nije mi presla preko pasta nego me mrzi da ga cistim 3 sata
You dont even know that a video card type ha to be added for a review, years in youtube and dont know even basics...
And what do you recommend?
@@Gaming_Assassin_ Add all pc specifications like 90% reviewers do and also quality settings.
If you can sponsor that then I am down to it, otherwise it aint possible
I don't understand the problem here, all the games are tested at same settings for both cpus, they are mostly benchmarked on the same areas or with built in benchmarks, and as you can see, even with not the greatest hardware, there are differences that are noticeable
