I used Secrid for around 9 years and bought multiple. You can definitely drop a card when you shake the wallet, which was slightly improved in later models but still quite easy to fall out. My many gripe is leather does not hold up and wears fast and can even get sticky.
Now THIS is a review. An actual comparison and feature breakdown. Guy pulled out an ENDOSCOPY CAMERA for Christ sake! Much better than the videos that are just product showcases. Great work!
Hey Mark, thanks for this super in-depth review! Our team is really impressed by how much you know and how unique all your videos are. As for the pop-up function you mentioned, you're absolutely right! Whilst some of the first-generation wallets did have this issue, the Ekster 3.0 wallets have a fortified cardholder made of anodized aluminum to make sure our customers can always rely on their Ekster wallets. Thanks once again for covering us, and looking forward to your next video!

@@walletopia thanks a lot for the kind words! The team here's super happy to hear that. The 3.0 is a direct replacement of the 2.0, indeed! The new 3.0 tracker also features longer battery life, wider range and voice activation support as the main upgrades to our last offering. Our new collections are also all 3.0 models.
I have the Secrid Mini in Dutch Martin Whiskey (Beautiful Color) and so far love it, the overall finish of the Ekster looks a little more refined due to the finished edges and the lined sleeves, but what made me choose the Secrid Mini over the Ekster is it having the small strap and snap which keeps it closed when loaded to capacity with some cash, otherwise they tend to swell and not close properly. Had the Ekster had this option on the Parliament I probably would've purchased the Ekster. Thanks for the in-depth review, good video.
Had the Secrid for 5 years. Excellent wallet. Enjoyed using it everyday. The card retention parts wore out after this time and the cards easily fell out. The leather started to separate from the box and come apart at the stitching. For the price and it’s functionality i think it was a reasonable life span.
6 years here- only the felt is a little worn. i need 4 cards at all times or it'll slip out. otherwise the leather is just worn as leather does. No separation and mechanism is still perfect. I'm considering the "mini wallet" with the button next though.
What in hell are you doing with your wallet to have leather separating from the box ? Do you wear Emery sheets in your pockets or hand warmers or I dont know what piece of abrasive junk ? Mine is 6 years old and did not budge an angstrom !
Im purchasing the secrid soon how is the card ejection? I bought the ekster but I really was let down. My 6 cards did not fit and the button feels cheap and is flimsy it gets stuck when you press it.
@@reconteam91 Awesome man the ekster I had to pry my cards out damaging some with only 6 cards and two embossed. Definitely ordering the secrid now, thanks for the help.
I just wanted to stop and say thanks so much for making such great videos. I really appreciate the level of detail you go into and how you have a clear and strong user focus in your reviews. I'm looking to replace my very battered paperwallet and I was really close to buying a Secrid. After spending a few hours watching your videos and some of your other reviews I realised it would have been completely wrong for me, so thank you and keep up the great work!
I have had my Secrid card wallet for about 10 years! It works just as well now as it did when I started using it 10 years ago! The card mechanism works extremely well. 😊
SECRID's card ejection mechanism is the best out there. Instead of creating it and then moving on, they continue to refine and improve it. That's what keeps them on top of the market. I think they could learn a few things from how companies like Pularys out of Poland uses the box as a basis for more unique designs, but by way of function, they have it nailed.
@@walletopiaI’ve heard the opposite that Ekster is the best. I have the secrid and rotate between it and the ridge. I did have he leather unglue from the aluminum box but secrid replaced it
My Secrid slimwallet was run over by several cars and the stitching, glue, plastic, leather EVERYTHING was held in tact. All my money and cards were still inside the wallet although the box had folded in on itself in half. Pretty wild, not even the leather was cut! I'm using the leather side portion to hold my cards until I get a new Secrid slimwallet. I love the damn thing and it is obviously well built in my eyes!
I owned the knockoff wallet for about 3-4 years and loved it. Only reason I stopped using it was someone gifted me an Ezra Arthur No.6 wallet, which I used for about a year until I lost it last week. The issue of cards falling out was not that big of a problem. The friction of six cards in the box was enough to hold the cards in place the entirety of the time I owned the wallet, unless I was deliberately shaking it to see if they would fall out. Same thing for the mechanism shooting out cards, I never really had a problem in normal use unless I was intentionally activating the mechanism with too much force. Another upside of how cheap the knockoff is, you can remove the whole mechanism from the wallet and disassemble it, which I did once or twice just to lubricate it as I could hear it rubbing. And even if it had fallen apart in the time I was using it, it was cheap enough it wasn't a lot of money lost
i was also skeptical about the glued construction of the secrid, but after having used one for about two years without any issues at all, all the while stuffing it and generously mishandling it. i don't really believe it to be an issue. so even though, on the outset it does seem a cheap solution, it's a very durable cheap solution ;)
Wow, hope your channel grows better, As you have presented most of the other reviewers don’t. I think we should wait for more time of this kind of wallet to be developed before exchanging the traditional wallet.
Thanks Daniel, we’re going to keep pushing forward with reviews! I agree, the pop up box wallets need a few more years to see how they mature as an alternative to traditional wallets
Great review like always. :) secrid won me over with its slightly smaller design and easier cash slot mechanism. being able to put cash without needing to fold it twice is a big plus for me.
I bought the Ekster wallet and ended up returning it. You could barely fit anything in it and it looked a bit bulky. I was really disappointed since I really liked the design. Also, the trigger button feels a little lose and it makes a rattle noise. After returning the Ekster wallet I got the Secrid and let me tell you, I love it. I've been using it for over 5 years, It still looks in good condition. In my experience the Secrid wallet, is the better wallet.
Have personally been carrying the Parliament wallet since September, once winter hit I slipped on some ice, landed on it in my back pocket and the trigger mechanism wasn't working nearly as well afterward. I contacted Ekster and they sent me a brand new one free of charge once I mentioned to them that the trigger was starting to fail.
I like your videos. I just found them. I have had my secrid for 5 or 6 years. I use it in my back pocket and I weigh over 250 lbs. I hav not experienced any crushing or card slippage as you have described. My wallet is loaded with 5 cards in the box (2 embossed and 3 flat). In the outside the box card holders I carry in the far right my drivers license, concealed carry permit and 2 other flat car insurance cards. In the middle card holder I keep my health insurance card and prescription card. I always have a few bills in the bill holder (ones likely). I have really enjoyed this wallet and was hoping your video’s would turn me on to something I would like even better. Sadly not so far, but I’ll keep watching.
My Secrid is in its 7th year. Card lift still works well, box still very firmly attached to the leather. Side friction pads still ok. Some stitching coming out, but this can be restitched. I stopped using the cash holder, it's crummy; gone back to my old clip. Card most used I have at the back (lifts highest); over time its mag strip has worn by sliding against the metal wall. I now have a dummy card between it and the wall, which makes one handed use difficult. But overall It's the best wallet I've had. If Secrid fix the issues I've found, It'll be perfect.
Walletopia is my go to place for wallets, being in the uk it’s difficult to purchase some of your reviewed wallets, so I purchase what I can. I do get bored with the same wallet all the time, I have just purchased the Secrid slim and was surprised of the quality I purchased the slim over the mini because it states that it’s a few mm wider, so I thought this would help in the closure over the mini. Just a handful of cards and a few notes it’s ok for me. I do own my go to Wingback Winston wallet which I purchased after seeing your review, great wallet, great leather, and I will go back to it, only I do like a change occasionally, hence the Secrid. I also own a Trayvax wallet great leather it’s just that polymer cash I find is always an issue with there wallets. Great Reviews Thanks
Another great review. I appreciate the honest call-out of the potential for various issues of each wallet. You have mentioned in several reviews the variations of construction, such as types of stitching, as well as the differences in dyes and edges for the leather wallets. Is there any likelihood of an education video to address construction methods similar to the video you have on "Grades of Leather and Why it Matters"? Knowing what to look for, and what to avoid, would be helpful particularly when a wallet uses more than one method like the Secrid Original (stitching and glue). Thanks!
I have had both, and the Ekster does not compare to the Secrid. The leather and the craftsmanship on the Secrid is much, much better. Was surprised this review did not reflect that clearly.
I wasn't too impressed with the ounce size of leather used in the Secrid, could have been heavier, but they have superior box mechanism and continue to improve it in my opinion. Secrid, unlike Ekster, also has many different versions of their wallet. I picked up the Secrid Cardslide and really like the continued innovation they're pursuing.
Nice Review. Tested the secrid. All was fine except this flappy leather side without a magnetic closing. Don’t like the other version with the bulky pin.
Great in depth review. Subscribed to your channel. Though I have been using Secrid wallet for last 1.5-2 years and I absolutely love it. Never faced any problem with leather quality or cash holding section or the main card section. I would definitely buy it again.
For German / Austrian AMZ market I can only recomment "Will Fire Smart Wallet". Solid Quality, smart funnctions and switchable card box. Test one of these!
I can say I've had the secrid for about 3 years and it still functions and looks amazing! But shoot I'm the kind of guy that would buy both and switch off😂 I might get the ekster just to try it, I get bored easily 😂
I had a Secrid for about a year and a half and I had that exact issue of the trigger breaking off. It was fine in the morning, but I went to grab it to buy something at work and the trigger was gone! Luckily there was a little sliver left I could grab and pull to eject the cards. To be fair, the wear and tear from me using it effectively as a fidget toy wouldn't have helped.
I really like this Parliament look, I just wish there was a clasp, or magnet to keep it closed. The way it flops around seems like it'd get on my nerves.
I had Secrid for years and loved it. But then I got new credit cards and hated it. I bought a brand new Secrid wallet because I thought it was the felt wearing down. It was because the card was too heavy. If you have a metal heavy card Secrid is not for you
Spring placement does make a difference. My Chinese knockoff spring just broke after 1 year and 4 months of use. Since the spring is stretched, more chance it can break with long term use. The wallet itself still works, but now the trigger is manual. Doesnt fall back automatically. Considering these wallets are dirt cheap (as little as $2), I guess it's not a big deal, but still important to note.
Great review. The lever mechanism of my Ekster broke. I got a newer credit card with a thicker lettering that replaced the old one. All my cards got stuck inside. I pushed the trigger too hard and the lever inside broke. I dismantled the ekster, and glued back the broken lever. It will break again. Not going to risk using it. Wish they made that lever from metal.
Did anyone notice issues with Ekstar wallet and metal cards? It seems my plastic cards are holding fine in the Al box, but my metal cards are sliding out own it's own. Not sure, if it a known behavior or not.
The issue is never about fitting 12 cards in my wallet. This type of wallet is used by me optionally for travel and dress. This means i want to grab my 3 cards, ID or 2 and maybe a slick card, and be able to hold up to 5 bills and have a place to put a receipt or two.
There seems to be one big difference. The Secrid wallet is Made in the Netherlands and thereby its price is justifiable (to a extent). The Ekster probably costs $12 to make or less than that (Since it is made in China). So it is way overpriced.
True, if you take quality out of the equation since you can make high quality things in China, it does provide them with a higher profit margin versus SECRID who is paying EU wages for manufacturing.
Honestly, I've had my Ekster for over 3 years now and no problems whatsoever. I don't really understand some of the comments here bashing Ekster, maybe I'm extremely lucky? I've never had anything go wrong with my Ekster wallet.
That's good! I'm not sure what would cause the push button to break over time, but that appears to be the biggest issue with those who have had problems.
Hey Mark! I don't know if this is interesting, but thanks to one of your videos I decided to buy an Ekster Parliament. But there are many variants of Parliament wallets... The Classic, the Fortune, the Vanchetta, the Vegan, etc... It would be a nice idea (in my opinion) if you could buy for example one black wallet of each one, and compared them... I tried to look for reviews of the Fortune vs the Vegan because they look quite nice in the renders (a strong pure black), but i couldn't find any proper comparisson or review... I ended up buying the classic, just because in my mind it was like an intermediate option between the vegann and the Fortune, but i do not know which one feels nicer, if it is worth the price spread, etc... Anyways, thanks for your videos! You rock!!!
You'd think so since it's a push instead of a pull, but the flaw is where it rests when not in use...in the open, with the possibility of being broken off or damaged. The SECRID trigger retracts itself once done so it has more protection from accidents.
Secrid fits 6 cards in the box itself including one embossed. (Credit card). In the rest I fit two cards each easily, no detachment whatsoever. I do not know how old it is exactly but it has no serial number so it was a very early one… 8 years. The mechanism has been replaced under warranty once and it is now as sturdy as new…. would not even consider any other wallet if I needed one. Maybe replace it because mine looks too much like my gf's and it is annoying to walk around with the wrong wallet.
Great and in-depth review. I'm official an addicted to your channel :) Maybe you could take a look to (yet another) variant: the Moero one. The mechanism that retain/expels the cards is the main reason for me to choose this one (a Vintage Classic Buffalo) instead the Secrid. Just my two cents.
Thanks Marco, we have the Moero on our buy list, but we've been looking how to get it since they currently only ship to Italy. Do you know of any other online retailer that carries their wallets or Italy proxy ship service?
@@walletopia Oops, I didn't know they only shipped to Italy. Unfortunately, I never used a proxy ship service, so I don't know any. Perhaps, if it is worth it, by contacting Moero directly you could find a solution.
I’ve had that wallet on order for a while, they ran into quality issues so delivery has been delayed. I’m looking forward to experiencing it. What in particular makes it stand out?
@@walletopia I have the pilot as well and I love it, unfortunately they discontinued it for some reason. I love it because of how slim it is. The cash strap works great and i only have to fold bills once. The trigger and card ejection have been flawless and I've had it a few years now.
I've had a Secrid Miniwallet for about 3 years now, and I suspect that the lever have peeled off the plastic of my cards over time making NFC not work (debit card NFC side facing down in the box). Just a potential warning/flaw :) Other than that a nice, versatile wallet with a great form factor! Thoughts on the Popov Card Holder? Thinking about getting one for my next wallet.

As leather wallet(others) craftsman, the Secrid leather is just the worst found in Europe probably, and the other is probably from chicken or goose skins. why not these companies do not use high-end leathers, at least Buttero leather from Italy(most appropriate) for this job
It is very cheap. I’ve never understood why they never went with a full gain leather with a better flesh side finish. With all the quality they focused on the box, the leather was overlooked.

This is a god tier channel
Would really love to see a comparison between Tru Virtu Click & Slide vs Ekster Parliament
I just have the Ekster Parliament and I prefer the Secrid. I bought the Secrid for 48€.
thanks for the great review! I got the secrid because folding bills is a no for me. Would have wished for a non-fold premium leather version.
That's the one thing I wish SECRID would offer is a full grain veg tanned leather option...all they have is genuine leather, very cheap.
I had Secrid for years and loved it. But then I got new credit cards and hated it. I bought a brand new Secrid wallet because I thought it was the felt wearing down. It was because the card was too heavy. If you have a metal heavy card Secrid is not for you
Great observation, I'll watch for that.
Great review one more time,
Always wanted to ask what is your every day wallet
Its a great review, thanks for sharing... I need specially this type of videos... I love wallets too :)
Thanks Alex!
Great feedback, thanks!
Sorry to hear that! Did you contact them for a replacement?
Did anyone notice issues with Ekstar wallet and metal cards? It seems my plastic cards are holding fine in the Al box, but my metal cards are sliding out own it's own. Not sure, if it a known behavior or not.
The issue is never about fitting 12 cards in my wallet. This type of wallet is used by me optionally for travel and dress. This means i want to grab my 3 cards, ID or 2 and maybe a slick card, and be able to hold up to 5 bills and have a place to put a receipt or two.
You do a great job man!
Really enjoy your channel
Glad you enjoy it!
Exactly what I'm looking for!
You rock!!!
Your mechanism will be broke within a year
Huh, I would have thought the Ekster trigger was sturdier from looking at it. Interesting.
That watch is really nice bro what kind is it?
Great video, really informative
Thanks Mackenzie!
Quality review 👍
If you have time can you review Pularys wallets too?. They also make pop up wallets like secrid.
I wish you had a tracker wallet top 3 or 5 list or atleast a tracker wallet category!
Nice Idea, we'll look into that.
Btw. I have 2 embossed cards in my secrid and it still holds 6 cards for me. I’m sure if u’d only have normal cards, you probably fit 7 in it.
Mark-- What is the knock-off wallet that used?
Hi Kim, unfortunately, I can't remember and I didn't track from where, I just happened to purchase it and then used it for comparison.
Great and in-depth review.
I'm official an addicted to your channel :)
Maybe you could take a look to (yet another) variant: the Moero one.
Are you reviewing the knock off ? Sounds a lot like it !
Best review
I used to carry my secrid in my back pocket. I ended up with multiple holes in the bottom corner of my jeans
Oh yes, I bet it would!
Secrid - Made in Netherlands vs Ekster - Made In China
What about the Ester vs Aviator??????
Yes! It's coming!
@@walletopia Cool , Thank you love the channel!!!
thx, i just got my Secrid today
Great! You'll love it. We have the CardSlide coming up for review soon!
How’s it been?
@@soulsweet17 it's good and love it
@@rickyhohk do you have the botton or nah
@@Ivan-vh5nz i got the botton one
Ur doing great
Great review. Was considering buying the Ekster but will stick with my 7-8 year old bifold wallet for now.
Huh!!! Think I'll just stick with the conventional wallets. No buttons to break off over time.
Hey mark what kind of watch have you? It is nice
I rotate between a bunch of them. They're all Citizen watches, this one is the Citizen Watches Mens AT2400-05A Eco-Drive watch- amzn.to/2YhWzqw
Have you tried the Wolkenstien Wallet? It works similar but their trigger is different.
No, but we'll take a look, thank for the referral!
@@walletopia
Awesome, really looking forward to that. Love that you still read comments on older videos.
Andar Pilot Wallet it’s by far the best box wallet I’ve ever owned
I’ve had that wallet on order for a while, they ran into quality issues so delivery has been delayed. I’m looking forward to experiencing it. What in particular makes it stand out?
@@walletopia I have the pilot as well and I love it, unfortunately they discontinued it for some reason. I love it because of how slim it is. The cash strap works great and i only have to fold bills once. The trigger and card ejection have been flawless and I've had it a few years now.
@@WH1TEMAM8A Still waiting on them to ship the new version of the pilot, hopefully they'll make it happen.
Secrid is Made in Holland, the Ekster is made in China. The Secrid mechanism has been proven many times to be long lasting. The Ekster buttons break.
We recently did a review on the Popov 5 cards, you can see the review here ua-cam.com/video/GJbCMbr-wIY/v-deo.html
Ekster wallet's trigger breaks after a couple years and they just tell you to buy a new one because it's not covered under warranty. Horrible.
Just subscribed to the channel, do you review less expensive minimalist wallets?
We (attempt) to review all the wallets we can 😀. What wallet did you have in mind?
@@walletopia don't have one in mind, looking for a minimalist wallet to take over from my large leather wallet, don't really know where to start, the good and the bad, have watched some of your reviews but these wallets seem really expensive, keep up the good videos, will keep watching you never know I might just say that's the one for me.
Do yourselves a favour and get the Secrid. Far better.
Excuse me Mark, could you make a video about maniwonders wallet, please...
Thanks Alex, never heard of them before, LOVE the concept. I bought the wallet for a review. Thanks!
Alex, I just heard back from them, they’re out of stock until March, but we will keep them on the list.
how in the holy mother of hell is that Secrid $70?!
They get even more expensive :). They originate out of the Netherlands and are a popular wallet in Europe.
The slimwalket is €49,00, the double one is €79
Same as why apple is so expensive compared to the hardware. style, brand, originality.
I used the Ekster and I can confirm that after 2 years.... the push button broke
Found this channel, and enjoy your reviews. My son loves minimalist wallets. Do you think you'll do reviews for Pularys wallets, particularly the Solo (and how it compares to Secrid) or Funky wallets?
I have ekster furtuna :))
Haha! Good one! 😀
Hi Mark. I really like your vídeos. I am a retired engineer. My hobby is to buid wallets by hand. I would like to buid a mechanism to raise the cards. Can you tive me suggestions for a good project, no. If cards qnd other thinks? Thanks
I am from Brasil
Can you review the Pulary's wallets? I'm looking hard at the boston wallet or raven. I dont trust the paid reviewers!!
it’s called the Netherlands
As leather wallet(others) craftsman, the Secrid leather is just the worst found in Europe probably, and the other is probably from chicken or goose skins. why not these companies do not use high-end leathers, at least Buttero leather from Italy(most appropriate) for this job
It is very cheap. I’ve never understood why they never went with a full gain leather with a better flesh side finish. With all the quality they focused on the box, the leather was overlooked.
I would not buy the Eskter wallet, their ads are annoying.
Agreed. Ridge and Ekster dominate the ads I see. I want to see something else!!
