- Paul Gessner has some incredible tanks to show off in this latest video with Remy - including one of the most unique filtration techniques ever. This Eco-Wheel provides algae scrubbing, wet dry filtration, "selective" protein skimming, wave surging, calcium reactor, water cooling, and many other processes and runs off of ONE air pump. You can read all about it in our latest article that drops soon on Reef Builders: reefbuilders.com

Jake would be proud - thanks for keeping RB alive, it’s one of the few places one can get good info and not solely marketing.
Yeah we all miss the guy 🥲
Great video!❤ One thing Jake used to do at the end of videos where he visited someone’s reef tank was he would ask them for their one biggest piece of advice or guidance that they could offer to the viewers. Maybe something you could keep alive from the Jake era? Anyway, well done content and super interesting! Keep it up!
Noted! Thank you Ramon!
Normally I would be upset that Remy is here and not on his own channel but happy to see him here and happy to see him again!
Love that RB is bringing all these reefers together to keep jakes memories and education alive!
I was lucky enough to actually see one of the bio wheel tanks actually in action. I don’t remember the exact year but somewhere around 98-99. It was a beautiful mixed reef in a shop in Nashville Tennessee. This was also the first time I saw a school of Banggai cardinalfish. The memory stuck with me. It’s a really cool design. Wish I had bought one.
And life goes on... Great Job Remy. Thanks for being here and keeping us informed.
Welcome to the RB team Remy congrats! Well deserved. Killer video, can’t wait to see what’s to come
Happy to see you carrying on Jake's legacy. Can't wait to see the fun and excitement you'll bring.
Thanks for showing Paul’s home , tanks and set up are amazing
Omg Remy on reefbuilders, match made in heaven 🎉👌👌👌👌👌
Wow glad to see you are with reefbuilders. Thought it was your video but very surprised. Love it
That's awesome. I have been running a bio wheel for years in my sump and have had good results I never realized I had it sitting under my grow light. I'll be installing a window on the lid of the wheel. Awesome!!!
I love seeing the old school and the new in the one home...just beautiful...and got to love a fellow ocd organiser too.😅
So glad to see Remy on Reef Builders!
We need a follow up Remy!
This was my first frag swap and I definitely didn't expect to see Remy there. That was super cool. Indy actually has a really nice reefing community. There are a lot of good setups around here
I love seeing unusual filtration methods, glad to see you on RB! What a great opportunity for you both!
Well done, peeps. I see that Tyler style and have always appreciated the Remy tank tours. More, please! 👊
I see it too!
It's a huge Eclipse!
So glad to see you here remy!!
🔥 Dope! Glad you’re on the RB team Remy.
Remy seems like the most down to earth person. He's makin Rockstar moves!!
I am glad that Remy is with you guys.
Awesome to see you on the reef builder team Remy! $2500 for that filter 20 years ago would be about $4250 today so it’s not hard to see why these didn’t take off.
Remy, I am absolutely stoked to see you teaming up with RB. You’re a great addition to the team!
Great to see you Remy!
Everyone of those tanks are amazing aquariums!
Glad yall got Remy!!!
That wheel is so cool!
Loved hearing the talk at the show!
Well done Remy!
Great reef builder video Remy!
Super cool video
That’s very cool to see someone thriving in the maintenance business. I did pretty darn good in that field in my 30s doing it full time. Switched to the airline biz.
Started the video and was pleasantly surprised!!!
Great video! Glad to see you on RB!
Awesome announcement!!! Can’t wait to see you on the channel!!! 💚💚
What an honor
Congratulations
Great episode 👏🏻 👌🏻
Paul is amazing! Blew my mind
Very neat organization and beautiful
Really nice set up 👏🏻👏🏻
Nice that filter is cool. Great video.
Very cool
That basement…. Love it!
Great video all the way
So clean
This would be an amazing opportunity and product that I'm surprised hasn't caught more attention and innovation. I've got enough parts and junk laying around I like I might attempt a simple prototype. When he said kind of like the old bio wheel I instantly thought of the old one oh the old eclipse hoods obviously upscaled. If if I've learned anything about being in the hobby for 20 years we reef heads are very innovative!
I had a feeling wheels would be turning! (pun intended) Obviously there are some drawbacks to this piece of equipment but if it's gonna replace an entire sump AND it works? Seems like a good play for an algae scrubber company.
Great video Remi! Very unique setup for sure. I am really intrigued by how the water is moved up to the wheel.
Air bubbles get trapped on the underside of the fins and lift it.
Thanks for re-uploading, I thought it was like a latency in my Internet speed
What great video ma fellas
That’s soooo crazy cool
Remy on Reef Builders!
this is wild!
New project, old school hob bio wheel retro with algae light somehow on top
Similar to the old Eclipse tank bio wheels.
Incredible to hear his nutrients are so low using only the eco wheel! Very cool.
very interesting guy.. i believe curiosity is a major sign of Intelligence , and it fun to see the gears spinning no pun intended 😎
Nice video appreciate the learning aspect with Paul being a semi scientist I strive to make sure that my system has all of the natural qualities of sea water am a firm believer of scrubbers and Refugiums #keep algae out of the display #keep phosphates below 0.1 lmao keep up the good work Paul rip jake adams
Cool 😎
Very interesting 🤨
Once again, it's hard to find a more reliable way to maintain water quality, than algae!
Well, even this isn't required for biological filtration, the live rock can do all of that, except grow algae but sometimes that isn't necessary either. The term "Berlin System", which is what we are basically doing with our aquariums consists of only two things: Live rock and a protein skimmer. Many filter systems can last a long time, the problem is the manufacturers come out with things they say we need and their products aren't even around for more than a year. I had my 200 gallon aquarium going for 12 years on a wet/dry trickle filter and then a Berlin system for the remaining 18 years and then took the aquarium down after 30 years so for me it was two filter systems in 30 years.
I wish this guy was my neighbor wow
Hey! Terre Haute! I am guessing you are talking about Inland Aquatic’s in Terre Haute? It was an amazing facility when it was up and running.
How do you handle the humidity?
whats the brand of the bio-reactor?
Hi, I have a question if I may: Should i put the fish up in the aquarium or at the bottom in the sump? but I cant see them in the sump, is it possible to just keep the corals downstairs with the rocks and the fish alone upstairs?
So is that the end of the Bahama Llama channel again?
Like a big spinning refugium?
That's interesting because my return pump is about 25 years old. Tank set up since 2002
what is the pump model?
@@liquidlar original Mag 3 pump
loving the wheel 🙂
Uhmmmmm doesn't that wheel in a separate box outside the main display qualify as a sump 🤔
or maybe I can take a "sump", relocate it above the tank, and it's no longer a sump...
probably only if any other algae reactor also counts as a sump.
I thought Remy was on for BRS?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Most hobbyists get out after their first few years. Let's see more aquariums with systems that have been in use for at least 10 years and more.
3:04 Yo he mentioned Terre Haute. Let's go.
Tho he's a Purdue guy. Friends don't let friends go to Purdue
Weird this just died out. It seems such a simple and effective idea. I suppose the patent hasn't expired, and the patent owner is only interested in selling it to China?
only thing about that wheel is that its noisy as hell.......
That’s an old phone ringing in the background…
Jake 😭😭😭
Must be noisy?
It is a bit noisy. I go into further depth in the article. I think with some tweaks it could be something cool though!
Thank you
