December 29, 1980 in Biloxi Mississippi, ARS was opening for Blue Oyster Cult. I was at the front center stage right, directly in front of Paul Goddard. They opened up with Champagne Jam, and during his bass solo the lights went out and there was a spotlight on Paul as he played his ass off. Everybody was screaming, he was killin it. He was sweating, and his glasses were completely fogged up. It was killer, and I'll never forget it.
Outstanding! I saw ARS in 1980 and my friends and I got to meet Paul Goddard behind the coliseum. He stopped and talked with us as he smoked a cigarette and answered questions. He was just a regular guy. When we asked for one of his guitars picks, he reached in his pockets and pulled out a plain unmarked herco pic. He said he didn’t do the fancy personalized pics. Great memory for me RIP Paul, Ronnie and Barry
Wow, great experience. I liked him. He was a regular good guy, Not pretentious or anything of the like. Maybe he just didn't know what a badass he was on the bass? Nah he knew but was still nice.
was lucky enough to see ARS 10 times back in the 70's 80's -one time was a big summer outdoor gig in southeast Virginia -was right up front with arms resting on stage when Paul walked on and with each step the stage would shake and man did he tear it up as per usual -the guy could lay it down -definitely my fav after Chris Squire
In the early 80s I saw Atlanta rhythm section in Tampa Florida, they did about 5 songs and went off stage and Paul Goddard stayed and thumped the audience. When I tell you the crowd went nuts it's an understatement! . I have seen many concerts by all the big names. Enjoyed all. But I had never seen that before! 2 standing ovations and we were screaming for more when the band came back on. It truly was a spectacle.

I think so too!
Are there any official ARS bass tabs for another man's woman ? Paul Goddard's solo in that song, IMO is top ten of all time. Keep up the great work.
Thanks brother. Not sure about the tab books...I usually just learn by ear.
ARS FO EVA!!
indeed!
I'd rank Paul on my Top 10 list of the greatest bass players which includes James Jamerson , Bob Babbitt , Mc Cartney , and Brian Wilson .
Mr. Goddard was amazing!
Great tone!
What strings do you use on the G&L?

Not the Rickenbacker tone but a great cover never the less of 1 of my favorite bands, thanks so much!
