To think that we are the generation blessed to witness the birth and growth of Tolkien's work; story, songs, music and movies. I can see my children (when that time comes) asking me around like "Hey da, what is this?" as they point at the movies and books. And then I'll gladly tell them. I think I will begin with; "Well, it is part of the greatest adventures one person can read. This all started in a place now long-forgotten, a place called the Shire. And in the Shire, In a hole in the ground, there lived a Hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty wet hole full of worms and oozy smells, no. This was a Hobbit hole. And that, my boy, means good food, a warm hearth and all the comforts of home." Oh, how this music gives me dreams of the future! ^^
They’re outcast angels forced to live in exile upon Middle Earth. They constantly long to journey across the sea to return to their home in Valinor, where the Undying Lands are. Upon Middle Earth, they need magic to sustain them otherwise their power wanes and they fade into mortality. Only in Valinor can they have peace and the assurance of eternal life. There is one elf who is an exception. Her heart is bound to Middle Earth for the love of one man. Because of this, she would give up her eternity to have this most precious love. Her name is Arwen.
In the West, really is a song that shows what is going to happen to all of us someday. We will pass on from this world and enter a realm of peace and beauty. We will also meet all of are friends and family in the land of peace.
What ever gives you comfort Wes...it's not like the eternal blackness will disappoint you as you won't know. Me...I'm pissed off. If only i'd known as a young child and later as a young man that all religion was total BS...that once it ends ...it ends...forever. I'd never have smoked !
As a once Skeptic who experienced the reality of a haunting, I can say you're right. It's not something people want to deal with or believe because it's either easier to fear the unknown (like the atheists) or to believe stories from people who want something from you (like the religions) but there is a third understanding, one that's universal across all nations all peoples without influence of religion or atheism. It's in the stories of those who've returned from the NDEs. A place filled with light isn't so bad is it. White Shores as Gandalf would say.
Don't get angry at spirituality just because centuries of religious people and religions stole what the masters know and turned it into something completely false and manipulative. There is a total difference between the compassion filled practice of personal meditation in the quest for wisdom and enlightenment and transcendentalism and the claims that one must fulfill an invisible deity's demands. Just because atheists don't like the truth doesn't mean it's not there, life doesn't work that way. "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." This applies to militant atheists who keep confusing Buddhism for humanism and continue to deny it's a religion.
whats amazing is that this music is made not by elves but by us. human beings. we are everything, we create everything. we are just as amazing and beautiful as the elves
We (humans) are capable of and perform both horrible AND wonderful acts. It is good to be reminded of the beauty and compassion we have shown ourselves capable of, especially when we are so often reminded of our hideous behavior.
Into the west makes me cry every time simply because it tells me what will happen to everyone someday. We will all leave this world and enter a world of immeasurable beauty and splendor. The ones we lose in this life are waiting for us in the next and we will se them again in time.
If anybody has read the Silmarillion, I always envision the bit of melody at the end as either the Ringbearers returning home (Galadriel finally home, Elrond with more family than he's ever had in his life) or Feanor breaking the Silmarils and the Two Trees blazing back to life and the glorious, triumphant swelling, with Men involved this time, of the Second Music!
When I leave for my shores, I'll have my order play these exquisite renditions for me. Fills me with love and light now as my ears get deluged with such divine melodies...
No matter the mood I am in these melodies and songs have the most beautiful spine tingling feelings to them, it's that feeling that creates a smile even as the songs can make you feel sad of the passing of the elves. But these songs gave the movies a meaning it really brought them to life, I think Tolkien would be proud if he saw the movies and heard the soundtracks.
You know: say what you want about blue jeans and the American style of dress but I think we miss something by not dressing in long robes. When you think about it thats been the dress style of men & women far longer in history then anything modern that we have today.
If I were to go to a ball, I’d dress in elven clothes :) I think they are more unique and show how presentable one can be! I wouldn’t care what others would think because as long as I’m happy in elven robes then it’s all that matters! 🧝🏻♀️
ahaha estamos fascinados por howard shore no KINGKONG141414 ? :D... si actualizan este video con las melodias de elfos del bosque negro y de rivendell del hobbit quedaria super :)
im seriously fighting back tears right now.. every time I sit down and listen to this music.. its so beautiful and amazing that it makes me cry. Every time.. Always and forever
I am literally sitting here crying...I don't know why. I think it's because this music is so beautiful, and that I wish somewhere, somehow, Middle Earth is real. In my heart, it is...
Elves are so beautiful, amazing, and mysterious. Certainly my favorite of all races real or not. when I see them in the movie it makes me feel like crying when their sad. And then the wonderful way they sing to thorins company as they enter rivendell. I wish i could just stay with them. :D This music is very powerful it makes me think of beautiful things, and places. It makes me wonder why anyone would hate an elf.
The world was such a different place when LOTR came out. Things are changing fast, and th'only thing that's improving and not getting worse is technology.
I agree with you entirely I mean just think everyone wants to go back to this time and just stay there, but all this new technology it's just not going to ever happen
I think one of the reasons I love the Elves so much is because they have seen such beauty and then lost it.They radiate this sadness which, I find, makes them even more beautiful. You hear it in the language and music, see it in how they move. What I would give to have such elegance...
I love this compilation so much as I've been singing many of these (badly) for 40yrs to my own made up tunes. I really wish I knew all the artists who are singing these songs. I prefer the melody and the arrangement to that of the Tolkien ensemble and would love to buy the tracks/album.
I wish you didn't include "Into the West" into this.. it doesn't have an Elvish feeling to it. I do like the song, but it doesn't fit in with the compilation.
The "Into the West" has to do with Valinor, the Undying Lands. The place where Elves are supposed to live. It has the only rights to be in an Elvish song playlist.
At 0:38 begins one of the hyms to Varda, or in Sindarin, Elbereth. She is the wife of Manwe, and the creator of the stars. She is the most beloved of the Valar to the Elves. I can't find this any where else, so you have all my thanks for putting it in here. It's beautiful.
You know I love “Into the West” (obviously), for a lot of reasons, so I’ve always kinda mentally applied it to a lot of things when I wasn’t so interested in just Tolkien stuff, and it’s always been a bittersweet song, even out of context, but when I remember/think about it in context with the whole theme of the diminishment of the elves and the end of the elves it just makes me wanna cry over this totally fictional beautiful, wise race that never existed and it’s just too much to be honest 😓
Are you sure the song you've listed as 'The Grace of the Valor' isn't actually entitled 'The Grace of the Valar' - the most powerful of the Ainur who descended to Arda to help shape it according to the will of Eru Illuvatar and revered by the elves and thought of as gods by Men?
All the music is beautiful. Very uplifting and still wonderful. The movies and books are still relevent today. You can learn so much about all parts of life, even though Fellowship was first published in 1954. And the Hobbit was published in 1937. Howard Shore's music is perfect and beautiful.
When the English part started, that's when I started crying. And I NEVER cry at songs. Got to be the best, saddest, sweetest composition I've ever heard. Awesome. Simply awesome.
I feel so disconnected with my present self when I listen to this. It's full of dreams, and endless time. It's so pale to believe yet it fills me. I'm in love!
5:16 this part always pops in my head when i think of the not so distant future, where i will leave school and move on with life. remembering all the good and bad times i have had, and leaving behind old friends i have known since 1st grade.
I really enjoy listening to these amazing melodies and voices with eyes closed. It kind of takes me away from my every day life. When I listen to this, I become peaceful and somehow free. Don´t laugh but it has something spiritual, sanctural for me...
Elvish Lament has forever been a favorite song of mine, right next to the song with Faramir and Eowyn together, and Funeral of Theodred.....most of the music actually....ALLLLLLL of it!!!!!!
In the other hand, I cannot hate my world because of that reason, because it's too marvellous that lets us to imagine and create such precious things; because being imperfect we can do it better and transform it in our greatest thought's place.
J. R. R. Tolkien's works are so unbelievably great, it takes a creative mind to write such a fantasy. And for the people debating the idea of his works being overrated, shame on you, you obviously can't recognize genius when it's right in front of you!
camon tell me this "you are the most beatiful person i have ever seen. your eyes like space and took me. You are more beatiful than all beaties in this world." in elvish please. thanks.
OMG Thank you so much :D i know the scene from the Blu-Ray and was hoping there was a longer version of this song...and i finally found it. Thank you :)
The bestest trilogy movies that I have seen. I always watch them... and I like thinking about how would be good to live in a place and age like that! Don't you agree??
According to Tolkien being elf is great....but being human is mythical! He once said: "Elves are natural...humans are supernatural." To understand what he meant with that you must read Silmarillion and, even more more importantly, his letters. Enjoy this beautiful music!
So for those who wants to know what the songs used here in order every time a new piece comes up. Here's the complete list. Gilraen's Memorial (FOTR Complete Recordings) The Passing of the Elves (FOTR Complete Recordings) The Last Debate (ROTK Complete Recordings) The Eagles (From The End of All Things) The Journey To The Grey Havens (ROTK) A Far Green Country (ROTK Complete Recordings) Into The West (ROTK)
You sir just read my mind. But on the other hand we can't allow our dreams and imaginations to set us apart from this real word and lead us to passivity. We have one true magic and that is love! :))

Some people enjoy linguistics for linguistics' sake. It's also really fun to come at it from a social standpoint to and try to figure out the why of it. When reading a book, you can analyze the thought process if the writer with surprising clarity, I have to imagine the same is doubly true for something wholly fictional like English. The fun part is learning various one-source languages as seeing who took inspiration from what other authors further back the line.
You know, its one of the most moving parts of the entire Tolkienian Legendarium, the Passing of the Elves. About as sad as the singular Passing of Gandalf the White, if not somewhat more. Even sadder then, to consider the master himself, J.R.R Tolkien never lived to witness his unrivaled epic hailed as the essence of an entire generation, the cinematic triumph of modern geniuses such as Peter Jackson and Howard Shore. Tolkien was adored by many by his last years, but his greatness only grows...
I started reading "The Silmarillion" and when I listen to this elvish music all I can think of is how Arda came to be and how the Valar and Maiar lived in Valinor, watching over the land and sea :)
The elves only risked their life as it was when dying in battle. After their deaths their spirits would go to the Halls of Mandos where they would gain new bodies and eventually be let out into the Undying Lands. The elves that left the Undying Lands to go to Middle-Earth to counter Morgoth and his followers considered that just as much a sacrifice as they would later consider death in Middle-Earth to be. Very few elves ever achieve true death, the brother of Elrond named Elros and Elrond's daughter Arwen were half-elven and chose to become human and achieved true death and the half-elf/half-maiar Luthien were allowed to choose to join her human husband Beren in the human true death. The only elves who can truly die are those granted death by god himself or those born from half-elves or human-elf couples who then chose to become human.
Well said. Good sense and a light heart at last. Your budgie has good taste, and you can spell 'budgie.' That's quite an achievement by UA-cam standards.
I wanted to listen to just the song at the very beginning, but the list doesn't seem to match up to song order. Does anyone know the name of the very first song?
does anybody else know any songs with similar vocals of the elvish language? I get the chills hearing the first song's vocal or whenever they speak in that elvish language
I totally agree. If we cared less for the mortal petty problems in life and focused more on the earth and ourselves and how we relate to all things then we would be much better off as a species. That's what Tolkien does; he compares humanity with the elves, his vision ofyou what humanity should be
To think that we are the generation blessed to witness the birth and growth of Tolkien's work; story, songs, music and movies.
I can see my children (when that time comes) asking me around like
"Hey da, what is this?" as they point at the movies and books. And then I'll gladly tell them. I think I will begin with;

Indeed it does!
This is the story of nine-fingered Frodo and the Ring of Doom, and Samwise the Brave.
@@CovenantBlackwatch09 Heh, although true I may not start with "nine fingers" if my kids are very young haha
It has been six years since this comment, tell us: Have you been able to tell this story yet?
I wish we would be like the Elves in LotR. Intelligent, nature loving, but also ready for a war and fights. It's beautiful.
We would take oaths seriously enough to slaughter our own kin if they get in the way.

The Maia are more fit to be called Angels. Not elves.
Unless you said it just as a compliment.
@@Nosondakar I'd say Maia are more like Seraphim, and elves indeed Angels
Enough escapism

I love this video because it says a lot about how the elves felt, I think
Ah yes, the most prestigious award and an absolute mark of quality.
The films and books will go down in history, it's so sad that Tolkein died and never got the true recognition when he was alive :(
So lovely. Wish they used some of this in the Hobbit as well, with scenes which include Gandalf and some others

The only elves who can truly die are those granted death by god himself or those born from half-elves or human-elf couples who then chose to become human.
what's the song name? So I -might- be able to find it on Spotify? Is it 'The Diminishment Of The Elves'...?
Oh, God.....I'm so happy to see this! I really love the elvish culture. Thank you!
Can someone please tell me the name of the score at 04:08 . And the other at 05:16. thank you.
When I have kids, I will tell them the stories of J.R.R Tolkien's mind.

I love this one
Their language is so beautiful idk how to describe it.
Is the Elvish Songs & Melodies like Gaelic?
Well said. Good sense and a light heart at last. Your budgie has good taste, and you can spell 'budgie.' That's quite an achievement by UA-cam standards.
Wouldn’t life be so much easier if we knew we’d get the gift of Ilúvatar in the end
It would be better if you could put the lyrics. Anyway, an awesome compilation! good job :)
it was good very peaceful and relaxing. moving, soulful
You do know that song won an academy award.
I wanted to listen to just the song at the very beginning, but the list doesn't seem to match up to song order. Does anyone know the name of the very first song?
The part at 0:39 - 1:18 is my favorite, it's so relaxing. Sam: "I don't know why, but it makes me sad."
does anybody else know any songs with similar vocals of the elvish language? I get the chills hearing the first song's vocal or whenever they speak in that elvish language
seirously these lyrcis are beautiful

“So do all men who live to see such times. All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us.” -Gandalf
I never understood what she was referring to. Even after I read the Silmarilion I din't connect the two. So thank you for that.

I totally agree. If we cared less for the mortal petty problems in life and focused more on the earth and ourselves and how we relate to all things then we would be much better off as a species. That's what Tolkien does; he compares humanity with the elves, his vision ofyou what humanity should be
i wish there was more elvish hobbit songs in the new hobbit movie soundtracks, its all low brass, mysterious, drums, and haunting,
