Days of Thunder is one of those films that I would always watch, when flipping channels, no matter where the movie was in the story. As a kid, I had the matchbox style cars that were part of the Hardee's Happy meal promo. My aunt worked for Chevy, and got them straight from the source. The mellow yellow car was my favorite.
"Gimme some loving." " He didn't slam you or bumped you. He rubbed you and rubbing son is racing." A real under rated NASCAR classic with a great score. I actually quite liked this movie, but I guess the excesses is probably what let this movie down. Top Gun on wheels is pretty much what this movie is all about as it shares a lot of similarities with that Classic. But it did end up being a turning point for Cruise future movies.
an underrated Cruise classic, he's never looked so cool since Top Gun swept the globe in '86, the soundtrack and score r one for the books...formulaic - yes and a dirty cousin of Top Gun but man is it a joy to watch. thanks Chris B for another great vid on the last global superstar.
My brother and i grew up on Days Of Thunder and Top Gun, you could also say its what sparked our hobbies, we both run simulators on our PC's, i do mostly flight sims (DCS) and some racing and he does sim racing (iracing and others) i often say Tom Cruise is partially responsible for our hobbies today, Days Of Thunder and Top Gun are amongst my favorite movies from when i was a kid, and definently near the top of the list
I know that Nascar has a huge following around 2005. I'm not sure how it was in the late 80s to early 90s. Tom was a woman's delight and not a man's type actor. I would love to bring my wife to a movie where she is drooling over an actor for 2 hours. I would know that night when we got home..... Just say she'd be walking funny again. Lol. Now as far as the movie Days of Thunder goes. It was a decent movie. It had all the parts that almost every sports movie has in it. You have a star or rising star. That rising star gets hurt and is scared of getting hurt again. Then you have the rising star a now star winning whatever there is to win. I mean they could make a movie about a football star Adrian Peterson. The man stood on stage at the Heisman ceremony, he didn't win it but he was one of the 5 selected to go. He then tore up his knee in college and all those hopes and dreams were almost snatched away from him. He makes it to the NFL and is so close to breaking the single season rushing record but falls short a very few yard. Then he tears up the other knee. Man one time coming back from a Torn ACL injury and this time it's his ACL and MCL. Yeah most might think he is done and yet he makes a comeback that not even Hollywood could write. Unfortunately he was arrested for spanking his son. I don't know what his son did to deserve the whopping he got, but his mother said he wad bleeding. This probably hurt any chances on a lot of stuff including him making the H.O.F. which is kinda sad. I didn't even like the Vikings, but he was a very very good athlete in short. ( I would've included his stats, but that would have taken to long and I'm almost certain nobody will read this anyway. Look he was awesome and it seemed like every single week, Peterson would make the ESPN top 10 plays. And if Hollywood can spend millions on a children's cartoon, give us adults something worth watching. I know I'd watch this. ) Pease out.
I loved this movie growing up. My nitpick is that the middle part kind of drags and slows the movie down. They could've trimmed around 20 mins. Top Gun was and is superior.
Even though this film is just a rehash of Top Gun and it's probably one of the most 80s movies of 1990, I still love Days of Thunder. It's probably my favorite Tony Scott movie after The Last Boy Scout and Beverly Hills Cop II
I watched this movie in the theater when I was a teenager. Don't really remember much about it except for that it was the loudest movie I'd ever seen at a theater. A fact that I still think is true up until now .
With the success of Top Gun Maverick, I would love to see Tom Cruise reprise his role as Cole Trickle. This would bring life back in the genre of racing again!
Although i still love Days of Thunder, I'm pretty sure, Quentin Terentino either has either never actually seen Grand Prix or Le Mans or doesn't understand Motorsports at all. However; i got the computer game of Days of Thunder for the Commodore 64 for birthday back then. And it still is what i think of, when i hear the term "bad game"...
I watched this movie for the 1st time last year and I really enjoyed it infact I've watched another 4 times the end scene with hans zimmer's score is perfect the film is hugely enjoyable aslong as you dont take it seriously
Say what you like about this film, Robert Duvall absolutely nailed the NASCAR good o'l boy character. Cary Elwes was a terrible villan, though. The short montage of all the real drivers commenting on Tom Cruise's character near the end really showed this up. The real drivers were realastic, Elwes was stereotypical movie villan. Some of the lines were great, "rubbin', son, is racin'" is still spoken in racing, and "monkey fucking a footall" is quotable line. The story of Tim Richmond, which is sort of the basis for this film, does not have a happy ending. Simpson and Bruckheimer just Hollywood-ed the shit out of it, every cinematic trope was used. The scenes of trashing hire cars is well known to anyone with a competition license. (It's practically required to do so) I particularly liked the scene of Harry Hogg bullshitting Cole Trickle about a set of special tires and a trick setup to give him a confidence boost, this happens a lot in racing. (James Hunt's mechanics used to do something similar) Talladega Nights is a perfect double feature with this for extra John C. McGinley action.
I loved Zimmer's theme for this film and the cinematography is A+, but I can't get into the story. It's just too cheesy, maybe it's because I'm not into car racing. Lol!
My problem with the movie is a lot of “technical” issues; like the fact that the race care he was in smoked quite a bit. It’s just one of “those” things in my eyes…
It wasn't underrated when it was first released, I remember I couldn't get away with all the Nascar hype and stuff after the movie was out. I'm in Australia and we don't do Nascar. His most underated movie was Top Gun, They should have givien him more lines instead of making the movie all about Ice Man / Val Kilmer.
The Park Terrace theater in Charlotte, NC (5:05) is still operating to this day, though it is now an AMC six-screener. Back in 1979 and 1980, when it was only a twin, it was the exclusive Charlotte venue for Alien and The Empire Strikes Back, respectively.
This was made during Cruise's "annoying little a-hole" stage, where he played practically the same arrogant tit in every movie. Cruise's top films came later, with A Few Good Men and Minority Report, but even then it was the script that saved A Few Good Men rather than Cruise, who was still showing signs of "I'm the best! from his earlier movies.

Any movie with Robert DuVall, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, and directed by Tony Scott is worth checking out
As a young boy in North Carolina, Days of Thunder was a favorite film of mine.
Grew up visiting family in Winston-Salem…I know EXACTLY what you mean!

"Yeah, uh, eating ice cream." 🍦

Still one of my all time favourites. Love this movie and it's awesome soundtrack.
Facts. My cousins showed me this when I was a kid and it was an instant favorite. Show it to my kids now.
I remember the Days of Thunder 4-D ride at Paramount's Carowinds being awesome.
Paramount Canada's Wonderland for me, man

I don't know if this is my favorite TC movie... but it is in the conversation... I don't know why, but I always loved this movie.

Bro take your meds
I love this movie. The scene where Cole crashes into Russ Wheeler after the race that always makes me laugh
Always loved this movie, and the soundtrack :)
Couldn't get enough of this movie as a kid.
This movie age like fine wine , get better and better with time pass
A fondly remembered part of my childhood.
"Last Note of Freedom" by David Coverdale is an awesome tune.
a gem
Being a long time NASCAR fan definitely adds to the likeness of this film for sure.
It has always been very rewatch able for me.
Chris Bumbray's reviews are the best. I wish he did all of them.
I loved this movie growing up. My nitpick is that the middle part kind of drags and slows the movie down. They could've trimmed around 20 mins. Top Gun was and is superior.
I loved this movie as a kid, 5 Stars!
I love Days of Thunder!!!!

For me, the best thing that came out of this movie was the soundtrack and Maria McKee - Show me heaven!
Saw the film at the cinema with a friend. This was the first time going without an adult. Great movie.
I remember three items of clothing everywhere that year. TMNT, Dick Tracy, and Days of Thunder (especially those DoT baseball caps).
I watched this movie in the theater when I was a teenager. Don't really remember much about it except for that it was the loudest movie I'd ever seen at a theater. A fact that I still think is true up until now .
I think this was the beginning of Scott's artistic growth, by the end of the decade his style was well defined.
With the success of Top Gun Maverick, I would love to see Tom Cruise reprise his role as Cole Trickle. This would bring life back in the genre of racing again!
Tom cruise is the Man! 👍👊✊👌😎🍁
RIP Tony Scott 😔
Days Of Thunder is a cool movie and even better than MI-7 Part 1 and Top Gun 2. 🍺😸
I don’t know if I would call it a great movie, but it’s a movie I rarely get tired of.
Although i still love Days of Thunder, I'm pretty sure, Quentin Terentino either has either never actually seen Grand Prix or Le Mans or doesn't understand Motorsports at all.

Talladega Nights is a perfect double feature with this for extra John C. McGinley action.

This movie rocks. I love the part they race the rent a cars.
Love this film.
Love Days of thunder, dumb , action, and over the top.
It's an iconic movie
It seems like Cruise was playing Jeff Gordon.
I loved Zimmer's theme for this film and the cinematography is A+, but I can't get into the story. It's just too cheesy, maybe it's because I'm not into car racing. Lol!
I saw this in one of the last drive ins in NJ. We both thought it was terrible.
I love this movie, even more so than top gun.
Randy Quaid went sane in an insane world.
My problem with the movie is a lot of “technical” issues; like the fact that the race care he was in smoked quite a bit. It’s just one of “those” things in my eyes…
I saw this movie on an airplane and I still wanted to walk out...
It's a guilty pleasure for me!
I never saw the movie but had the toy car I got from Hardee’s
Just throw in Kenny Loggins’s Highway to the Danger Zone and it will officially be Top Gun on wheels.
Never saw it
You mean he returned with Far and Away after this movie.
It's a great film.
Days of Thunder is better than Top Gun.
Randy quad ain’t insane bra, He exposed a lot of Hollyweird underworld.

Underrated? I thought you guys knew movies. 😂
Does Tom Cruise sprint in this movie🏃
It’s Good I’m just not into Sports Movies.
I watch this way more than top gun.
Spinnin ain’t winnin!
Days of Thunder was good... nicole kidman wasnt though
NICLOLE KIDMAN WAS GORGEOUS BACK THEN SHE GOT BETTER AS AN ACTRESS IN LATER ROLES
This is a bad movie. Don’t sugarcoat it.
Pre insanity and before he had the soup strainer beard.
