Because the former empress who’s been bullying the current empress Masako for a long time and the former empress still has a power.
I though it because IHA pressure to the current empress to produce male baby not because the former empress which clearly not welcomed by her mother-in-law cause she not descended from former nobility and at once time even lost the ability to speak. So what you means is someone who got bullied by her mother-in-law take a turn to bullied her daughter -in-law!

もう到着なされています。
確か8～9時間位の時差だったような…。
夏が8時間、冬が9時間
3-10月が8時間差です！
土曜11時くらいにご出発されたので約14時間のフライトだったので現地の夕方5時頃にご到着されたかと！
無事に到着されて何よりでした。気になったのはレッドカーペットがなかった事 、何故でしょうか？

I wonder what the Empress would have done if she didn't marry into the Royal family. She was highly educated: high school in the USA + Harvard BA in Economics. Some law school and Oxford post-BA. Speaks both French and English.
I'd imagine she would have continued her career as a diplomat / foreign affairs.
