Wow, really impressed with Scale Trains! Loksound has done a phenomenal job with this prime mover and can tell those speakers are nice and crisp! I think Scale Trains introducing those walkway lights is a step forward for model railroading as well. Nicely done! Love these reviews!
Wow! As always, excellent review, and keep up the great work! Scale trains and ESU nailed this dash 9. We used to run hundreds of these units on the UP, but now their numbers are dwindling as many are going to storage. Personally, I never thought I’d miss them, as I’ve always liked EMD engines for their reliability and easy maintenance. ( The 7FDL engine’s oil has to be drained to change the water pump, for example ). Seeing and hearing this model really makes me want one! The rotating roller bearings are a small detail that really bring this thing to life. Watching it roll by is the ah-ha moment of that’s what has been missing in HO scale...
Thats awesome !!! They must have started them when Intermountain did . Going to be interesting watching the new releases these next few years !! Great review as always !! Thanks for sharing !!
WOW, the video quality is awesome!!! I don't remember it being this good. Rarely do models look this great regrading detail when put under the microscope like this video camera, and Scale Trains detail looks absolutely superb at this high magnification!
Just placed my order for a Norfolk Southern unit. Keep up the good work James I love the videos!! Also from one service man to another thank you for your service!
Thanks for all your reviews, I am new to this level of railroading. I appreciate your attention to detail and a seemingly unpredicial take on the models that you review. I just purchased a "Scaletrains" Norfolk Southern "Operator" unit today. Thanks again.
Great Video Willie. I'm currently in the middle of going over my Dash 9. I will have a showcasing of the Norfolk Southern version of this locomotive soon.
Looks nice, couple of things that really popped out to me is the way they did those snow plow grabs; they're popping out the front of the snow plow, @17:27 when youre doing the coupler height gauge check the step well has a major sag with the front side of the steps leaning downward that its causing that horrible coupler sag throwing off your coupler height, rear coupler is also very low but I dont see that same issue causing it as in the front. Also, whats going on @04:48 on the AC unit behind the AC fan theres like a plate sticking out? Other than that its a nice model, finally a high end C44-9W model :)
yep had the same thing said on Atlas Rescue Forum. I didn't notice it from my regular distance/not zoomed in. But that's what the HD is for...to show you guys everything.
I’ll be getting one in N scale this Summer in NS scheme. I was so excited seeing the crew walkway light and the walkway light on the engineer side. Well so far that’s HO Scale. Don’t know if it’s included in N scale. Those walkway lights seem like an easy fix for the Tier 4 GEVOs in another release. Scale Trains is so awesome!
Cool video James. I like it. Is nice and amazing. I am very happy about it. I wish I can a scale trains Ho scale Dash 9 too like BNSF, Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern. They are my favorite schemes on the Dash 9s.
Is it just me, or does the horn sound like it cuts off at the end. There is no echo or reverb, I wish there was...still a fantastic train though. Is it out yet? The website says “pre-order” so I’m not too sure...
I don't model the Santa Fe or time period that they came out in, but would sure like to have one or two of those, and maybe an SP painted one too. Edit: Also wish that we could get those scale trains metal couplers as a separate item.
I was wondering what is involved in taking the shell of to install your own decoder and speakers on a DCC ready loco. With all of that detail, it kind of scares me. A video of you doing that would be great!
The Dash 9 first run came after the second Tier 4 run iirc. The ES44s are priced significantly higher at $279 a piece but it’s at least competitive with the Genesis ES44s
very impressive ,, scale trains really does knock it out of the park.. and i think 300 Canadian is almost a steal of a deal, when a lot dcc and sound are over 450 now
I remember this one from MSTS. Infact I think Scaletrains should make 4723 with the Microsoft Train Simulator branding for the sake of nostalgia as 4723 is my favourite of them all in the BNSF fleet.
Good review. The very low coupler height really burns. My NS Dash 9 had better luck with the coupler height and one was at the correct height. Although I've noticed most of ScaleTrains product come with low coupler heights especially freight cars.
If I was to have one complaint about this model, is would be the front and rear yellow handrails. The color is, to my eyes, not correct. And seems to be sort of translucent. For me a quick airbrush would do. Fix that and the paint bleeding on every other model, and scaletrains would be perfect.
Weathering might also help. One of my Intermountain GEVOs (I'm never buying IM again), has the same issue you described, some grime and dirt (using prototype photos) in the right area fixed it.
Not sure about the frosted side windows. It's all fogged up when you try to look through them. Unlike the Walthers that's crystal clear although it's not tinted. They should either properly tint the windows like you see on diecast model cars or don't bother tinting them and leave it clear. I imagine if the windows were frosted on a real loco, that be a safety reg violation.
Athearn Genesis has those locomotives and they are detailed. ScaleTrains are offering locomotives and freight cars that aren't available or are like the prototype.
@@richardcolemanjr3749 I know i have many SD70Ms by athearn, and no you can get rtr dash 9s and Kato dash 9s, but are no where close to scaletrains quality.
They knocked it out the park with this dash 9 version. If I had one complaint is that they do a whole 100% complete light package: ground lights, step lights, fuel gauge lighting, fuel cut off switch indicator light, etc. When you have night operations, all of those lighting effects will bring out the locomotives more.
Great review as usual kind sir....I do have a layout question....are the white railroad ties prototypical or do they just look cool? They do look cool by the way....
Paint won’t stay on scaletrain locomotives! And if you call them they will get very mean with you! Lol buy athearn sound is louder and better and paint don’t rub off
The only thing I don’t like is that they changed the box art. I know that’s not really a big deal, but I would’ve preferred they kept the original design with a blueprint look of the actual locomotive with no logo in the way rather than this design. The really low coupler height concerns me too.
It is too bad Scale Trains has chosen not to support hobby stores/model train stores. Their trade discount is a complete joke and therefore most stores cannot even cover the credit card fees on reselling ST products. Very sad.
Its official #scaletrains will be the main source for locomotives my model railroad.
Wow, really impressed with Scale Trains! Loksound has done a phenomenal job with this prime mover and can tell those speakers are nice and crisp! I think Scale Trains introducing those walkway lights is a step forward for model railroading as well. Nicely done! Love these reviews!
this engine sparks childhood memories from MSTS
Yeah. Too bad it isn’t the running number of the one from MSTS.
Wow! As always, excellent review, and keep up the great work!

Loksound absolutely nailed the FDL-16 sounds. Very nice review.

Nice review! I love the horn on that loco sounds very accurate! 👍🏻
Great job on the review! Have a good night 😊🌙❤️
Great Video Willie. I'm currently in the middle of going over my Dash 9. I will have a showcasing of the Norfolk Southern version of this locomotive soon.
I do want this Locomotive for Christmas 2019
I ♥️ this Locomotive
Great review. Fantastic job ScaleTrains. And YES they are going to offer the NS C40-9 "TOP HAT"
The see through grills are amazing and always make the sale for me.
Excellent review with great video and clear descriptions. Thanks so much!
Nice run byes! Glad to see more of the trains running in the review.
Same loco I ordered, but in N scale. Looks great as always. Love the deck lights.
Fantastic detail. Another awesome model from Scale trains.

@@jlwii2000Good job on the review my man!
I've been waiting for a HO Dash 9 with the option on of the Heritage 2 BNSF scheme for awhile now! Awesome!
This was to me the only engine that ever looked good in h2 and wow does scaletrains make this thing look GORGEOUS. I've got mine on preorder now.
Just placed an order for a UP & NS !! Love the walkway lights!!
Awesome video! I can’t wait to get mine.
ST is killing it!!
I LOVE this! Even the K3LAR2’s modeled correctly.
I’ll be getting one in N scale this Summer in NS scheme. I was so excited seeing the crew walkway light and the walkway light on the engineer side. Well so far that’s HO Scale. Great review!!! That model is sick I already ordered a Ns Dash 9 in stock and hoping to get it soon!!!
Awesome model!!! So annoyed that I missed out on these Dash 9s. I need both road names!
Cool video James. I like it. Is nice and amazing. I am very happy about it. I wish I can a scale trains Ho scale Dash 9 too like BNSF, Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern. They are my favorite schemes on the Dash 9s.
Does this have flashing ditch lights

Joe S there is an NS version too with Santa Fe going to be made and I think CSX and UP
Unfortunately ScaleTrains doesn't make this one in SP (I know, huh?).
Looks great and better than Brass,I'm impressed as always with Scale trains. Thanks for the review.
miachevydude
Yup. I'm selling brass left and right
I hope they have these in CN!
That would be cool, especially if they did the teardrop windows
I was wondering what is involved in taking the shell of to install your own decoder and speakers on a DCC ready loco. With all of that detail, it kind of scares me. A video of you doing that would be great!
Seem like #scaletrains is bumping up prices with every new loco they release,i wonder why there is such price difference between Gevo T4 and dash 9
Maybe it’s just a better model overall. Plus you said this when they hadn’t done the re run of the T4s they are pretty close to the same price now
The Dash 9 first run came after the second Tier 4 run iirc. The ES44s are priced significantly higher at $279 a piece but it’s at least competitive with the Genesis ES44s
We need one for the C40-9 top hats
Time to get me a BNSF H2!
Absolutely amazing detail !!
Good model with good sound. Congratulation!!!... Thankyou.
I have the ho mth northfork southern and it's a beast it pulls really good
very impressive ,, scale trains really does knock it out of the park.. and i think 300 Canadian is almost a steal of a deal, when a lot dcc and sound are over 450 now
sparky107107 and it has a v5 decoder.
Great Product but aBIG DING on COUPLER HEIGHT and Quite a Difference from 1st Release from Athearn Blue Box WOW Great Review Thanks James C&OGuy
I just got a Santa Fe war bonnet Dash 9 it’s great. Except it’s an athearn roundhouse so not quite as detailed but still looks good.
Nice. Great review and great looking engine. Now all I need is a winning lottery ticket and I could buy a couple. 😎 🚂
I remember this one from MSTS. Infact I think Scaletrains should make 4723 with the Microsoft Train Simulator branding for the sake of nostalgia as 4723 is my favourite of them all in the BNSF fleet.
Great review!
Are you able to tweak the horn volume? The horn on mine is really quiet.
Yes, check the manual for volume CVs.
Good review. The very low coupler height really burns. My NS Dash 9 had better luck with the coupler height and one was at the correct height. Although I've noticed most of ScaleTrains product come with low coupler heights especially freight cars.
I’m new to the hobby...can you adjust coupler height on locos?
You are emgo, love it
Awesome review, excellent video
Does bnsf have an h3 or swoosh scheme on some of these in real life?
Unpaid Intern
Yes there are quite a few of H3 repaints on the road
Beautiful locomotive 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Very good 👍 👏 👏
The dash-9 entered service in 94 or 95 not 99.
If I was to have one complaint about this model, is would be the front and rear yellow handrails. The color is, to my eyes, not correct. And seems to be sort of translucent. For me a quick airbrush would do. Fix that and the paint bleeding on every other model, and scaletrains would be perfect.
Fritz Bismarck I airbrushed the handrails on my csx square cabs. They look much better now with the lights off in the room.
Cast in yellow, rather than painted yellow.
Weathering might also help. One of my Intermountain GEVOs (I'm never buying IM again), has the same issue you described, some grime and dirt (using prototype photos) in the right area fixed it.
Now you need to test the ScaleTrains SD40T-2.
Looks like a great loco!, so is ST shipping these already? They looks nice!

I love your channel
Oh my.
Hi. How long have you been a UA-camr? You've got a nice presentation style.
Nice dash9
how do you store your trains
Great Video
I hope they make a SD70M in the future.

great machine hurts that to Mexico in those very few are those and more of that scheme greetings
Just ordered mine Santa Fe the silver and red go scale trains😃
First. They make some great stuff. Soon to have mine
Do you like NS?

You did miss front walkway and steps are sloped to the front.
camera backs me up when I miss things so it was caught in a round about way.
Awesome
Pweh pweh bang bang!
wow its nice
Great review as usual kind sir....I do have a layout question....are the white railroad ties prototypical or do they just look cool? They do look cool by the way....
Some railroads do have concrete ties instead of wooden ones so yes its prototypical
Thanks....I didn't know that. I may actually have to go that route as well....I love the look
nice
FNBS-RIP HOBO STOBE
Need to get one in UP or just do BNSF!
UnionPacificRailfanForLife Daniel you are going to wait until June or July when the second run of these Dash-9's come out
Of coarse they dont have ATSF in operator XD
On I love that
Oh*
Very cool! Engine and vid! Thanks
красиво
Paint won’t stay on scaletrain locomotives! And if you call them they will get very mean with you! Lol buy athearn sound is louder and better and paint don’t rub off
Too bad Scale trains can't produce a good puller in N scale.
