Back in 2020 when I setup my distrokid and ascap I learned alot about that information. My thoughts was make everything from scratch no samples. If I do use samples keep track of where I got them from and read the fine print in the contract agreement of those samples companies. I found loopcloud agreement was decent and easy to understand. Still I would rather not use Samples at all n just make it all from scratch. If I release any music or add to my catalog I do my best to play by hand use no samples make it from scratch . Keep it simple basically 🙏🏾
Distrikid is trash. Just got a payout where they took 70% due to "fees" CD baby will always be superior. Who wants to pay 5 bucks a year for song ID when you can pay a one time upload charge and it's included...

Anytime you have samples in your beat and you’re trying to clear a track for a major label. They will ask you if you own the rights. So, either you haven’t placed a track commercially or you don’t understand copyright. I’m not trying to disrespect you. However, I’m trying to help you understand the process.
Yeah I most definitely fell for that mexican ot contest pack. The wild part after I submitted I never heard anything via email or anything about the announcement of winners. Even went so far as to find his discord just to ask around
It's funny coming back to this space after years, because you get to see exactly why some people make sounds for ElectraX and why some make songs with artist.
I say it depends. There was a case here in Europe, when the Scientology tried to copyright their book in Europe. In Sweden, we've what is called "principle of public availability". It mean if a Sweden citizen using a royalty free sample pack, then its free. Scientology try to sue the Swedish government in the European court and they lost for it. And if I uses the copyright agency STIM while its for free, then by law they cannot sue me for it.
This is why since I just started doing content creation in this space, with all my history in the industry, I’m staying clear of these type of content creators. They don’t get it, and do more damage than good.
this is why i email the companies and ask very strict questions about using royalty free samples and the min they say no credit no nothing etc i’ll use it

@@AveMcreeI don't mind splitting royalty if you say you want it before hand but if you claim royalty free- it means ROYALTY FREE and you waive your right to collect money later. There is no way it would be enforceable here in an Indian Court under our Copyright Protection Act. I am a lawyer enrolled in the Bar (though I don't practice).
Because royalty free leads a person to believe that the transaction is done. And people that sell packs don't go out of their way to clarify. It's misleading. It's really not that hard to understand bro.

Nothings free esp royalties. All that “Royalty Free” shit is cap. You still gotta pay up if you’re suddenly lit.
Nobody has to worry about being lit tbh 😂
yeah if you get lit, you got bigger things to worry about
100% royalty free doesn't mean "unless we change our mind later"

I had hella drum machines...the ones that had samples on that mf never asked any of us for sale royalties. This is a slippery slope.

Man I'm perplexed. How is a royalty free sample not free to use? It's in the name. It's free of having to split or submit royalties.
Why would anyone be mad if they have to split bread with the creator of something they used? If you’re so greedy then do it yourself lmao
I agree, but when you trick people into a situation, they’re not aware about. Ain’t no way around it. It’s shady.
