For context: EX bosses are special boss variants in the Seal the Deal DLC that exist for one singular life's purpose: To super-omega-hyper-turbo-MLG-360-no-scope *_TEAR YOU APART._* xD
I bought A Hat In Time on Steam, trusting the positive reviews. I only knew that it was something like Mario Odyssey, (I haven't played Nintendo games since the NES) anyway ...
A Hat In Time is an absolutely wonderful arcade game, fun, cute, playful. And the music is appropriate)
For context: Hat in Time is a collectathon platformer in the vein of Mario 64 (small open-world areas, explore to collect stuff), and this particular theme is for one of the DLCs for it (“seal the deal” being the 1st and “Nyakuza Metro” being the 2nd). This piece is for a SUPER STRONG alternate version of the final boss of the game.
The thing that happened with Grant Kirkhope is basically that he was supposed to compose a handful of tracks for the game (three, if I recall correctly?), but felt his style didn't fit with the rest of the game's soundtrack and the developers trusted his more experienced opinion. In the end only one track of his ended up in the final game, Her Spaceship, which is the hub theme.
Before reaching the EX phase, they have a buildup ost that comes before the actual song.
