Hey who were all those crazy dudes in that picture? 😉 Good video man.. either a notch or a massive bezel, both aren't great options but sounds like the camera alone makes up for it.
I get the camera is slightly better and that there's a lot to like about it but I'm really sad about the new pixel design screen wise. They can do a lot better
For the notch settings. it's not use the space beside the notch because it's a setting for developers to test their apps in a screen without a notch so it's normal to push everything down to simulate a normal screen
Exactly like I said in another comment. if this was LG and it came up with a design like this for their main flagship phone on the G or V series they would get destroyed or if this was Samsung or Huawei. The only people who I've seen said negative things about the pixel lineup since it's been unveiled 3 years ago has been flossy Carter and MBKHD that's it. To me it seems like a lot of UA-camrs will Bash the design of the phone before it comes out. Then when it comes out they'll do a total 180 and say oh the notch ain't that bad and this guy in the video is no different.
@@pp3k3jamail Because using the phone in person is a lot different from just seeing pictures of it. You get used to a notch, but you'll probably never know that cause you'll never accept it. And obviously Samsung would get bashed for this design, they keep making parody commercials and tweets about notches that no one would take them seriously if they tried this.
Maybe because aside from the notch that everyone is making a big deal about, the phone is actually solid?? I mean, at this point, every one is just poking fun on the notch and is purely hating on it just for the notch
please do an in depth camera review with video( all available formats), camera ( with all those portrait, high res zoom and HDR+) and if you could, do a comparison with you know phones. loved the video tho
There is Face ID on the pixel 2XL and 3 , in settings you search for Security and location> device security> Smart Lock> Trusted face. I use it to make fun of my iPhone X Friends but the fingerprint reader is a whole lot faster. But yes, these phones do have Face ID
LMAO, that intro. I want to see you do an actual comparison of a low light shot with the iPhone XS in the full review. Would be cool if you can actually find the location of that shot and recreate it.
I'm disappointed that most reviewer focus on the camera of a smartphone as the main attribute, and neglect the rest! review a phone as a phone, how easy to use it, how smart and intuitive etc and drive this industry away from just a camera phone!
Mohammed Harbi This isn’t a review though. It’s more of a hands on or initial thoughts. Besides, the Pixel lineup has been known for its camera. Seems normal for everyone to focus on the camera
That like is for Austin..!And ofcourse as always great video.. no need to point that out, hope Google listens & makes use of that screen real-estate once you hide that notch!
The 3 addresses most of the issues people have with the XL. No notch, symmetrical bezels, cheaper, easier to use with one hand- all while having the same specs with the exception of the battery and screen size. The 3 seems like a great phone but in tech news, it is being overshadowed by the endless comments about the XL's unsightly notch.
Great video! As always!👍🏼 but I have one suggestion. Fix the name of the title because you have it as Pixel 3 but the phone you made a video about is a Pixel 3 XL. I actually thought you were gonna talk about the Pixel 3 because most people are disappointed by the Pixel 3 XL notch 😂
Exactly what I'm looking for. Yes. Please use the right name. Nowadays everyone talks about the "plus" version as it is the "normal" one. Maybe in the future, just name the bigger version pixel 4 and smaller version pixel 4 XS or minus. But good review. Thank you.
I'm thinking maybe you can hide the notch better if you load a launcher such as Nova Launcher and make the notification area transparent or black background. That way with a black background it will blend in. Could you maybe give that a try and let us know if it works?
IMO google just failed this year with hardware design....if Huawei and Sony brought that same notch they would've been criticized heavily. Just bcz its made by google I don't see why it would be otherwise for the pixel 3 xl.
Jonathan, great video as always. I can't say enough how much I appreciate your videos and how you always share the limelight with those in your videos! You are everything that a person aspires to be as a true Vlogger. Can't say enough how much I enjoy your videos and the heart that you put into each one. I am an Apple user, but I would love to own a Pixel, they are great phone. Google does some pretty awesome stuff. I am glad someone took the time to run this phone through its paces. Keep up the great work and keep those vids coming!!
JoMo, see if you can recreate the side by side low light comparison of the XS and the pixel 3. Really interested to see if what google showed is accurate!
I understand that companies like google, one plus, and others are following trends... but Jesus! the design of this phone proves how disconnected they are from their customers!!! The idea of Apple with the notch (they were not the first) was to give you as close as possible a full screen experience. They couldn’t do it because of Face ID... but here comes google... they add a notch bigger than their competitors with no reason... they add a huge bezel of the bottom side of the screen. Which makes the phone looks poor in design and the videos decentralized.. and say this phone looks great! It’s like they laughing of our stupidity... I can imagine the design team saying “No problem guys just add a notch, they still going to buy it anyways” I don’t understand but if this was the best design that Google could have come up with in the time frame they had and the resources they posses.... well I’m sorry to say that Google lost me.
Well that’s part of the challenge... what I’ve seen over the course of all these years is that companies have the same problem over and over... design vs technology if you want to design a phone with good speakers and a great camera without sacrificing design. Well invest the money to make that technology smaller... design it’s always important.
So true, the XR has an LCD (harder to get bezeless) and is $750 without a huge notch or chin so I really don’t see why google couldn’t have done something like this
All valid points here. But everyone loved these speakers on the 2xl and maybe the tech isn't there yet. Apple didn't need the huge bezels on the xr cause there were no stereo speakers. Also, the bezels on xr is a bit thicker than the xs'
I like Google's method of hiding the notch by bringing the time and battery indicator below the notch level because it solves the biggest problem which notches introduced, the lack of space for notifications on notification bar. It is called notification bar some reason. This also makes quick settings more reachable and if they have never given the notch then it would have been looked as same as it looks after hiding that notch.
A very good analysis :)...Could you please make a comparison video with Pixel 2? In case of Pixel 3, i'll strongly recommend everyone to go for regular Pixel 3
Mentality of tech consumers today, Bought a notch phone just to hide it, when a notchless model existed 100$ cheaper AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH But, camera is orgasmo
3:24 The earpiece on the iPhone is a speaker too. Honestly, if Google just made the notch slightly more wider it wouldn't have been that hideous to look at.
Nice video, very informative! Did you have a change to play with video capture...and the quality? Curious if any of the new Pixels support stereo sound recording.
Bro does your regular pixel 3 produce black bars when watching youtube videos i mean its just a 5'5 inch screen and its got 18:9AR , so getting black bars is pain in 2018 with such small screen.... Cause 5'5 is a very much sufficient for media consumption but when we get black bars it comes down to 4'7 inches right so that makes it too small
@@saivarun8511 I dont have it yet it will ship a week later but i'm pretty sure it will have black bars when watching usual videos, you can zoom in to occupy the whole screen. There are 18:9 content as well like Netflix and selected UA-cam vids so they will look good on it. Yes 5.5 inch is a little small but I wanted to be able to text and grip it with one hand
so no pixel 3 givaway since you need to replace Austin's phone?? lol... what I dislike is while watching videos or content the image is strangely off centered which gives me a weird OCD feeling! not saying the phone is bad or anything but I'd go with the Razor Phone this time around. that audio and RGB is hypnotizing.
Be it iPhone XS or Pixel 3 :P, that selfie photo is very impressive and sharp. I think finally there's a usable selfie. I hate the notch but like you said, if you can hide it, the notifications should move up so as to give that extra display space, which is the whole point of having notch.
It's one thing for Apple to seemingly hide the notch in marketing photos and commercials but it's another thing entirely for Google to build in a feature that basically disables it. They're essentially admitting that it's unnecessarily big and I'm sure if you asked someone if they wanted more screen real estate or a louder, front-facing speaker they'd more than likely pick more screen.
However, keep the notch and you get to use the space that was previously a notification bar as real screen space. It's not like they're lying, they never said their screen was how big it is, it just surfaced online. Physically, it is a 6.3 inch display, which is correct.
I know having good cameras is good and all, but could UA-camrs stop pretending it's the only thing that matters? I must say that the software experience goes first...
but google have the screen software and camera nailed. it's just not the best design. I personally don't mind the compromise and will definitely get the 3xl
The software, screen and camera are 🔥 on these devices... It's just that notch implementation which is pushing ppl away.. to be fair even the back design looks so much more cooler than the other phones on the market. I'll be on the ring with the smaller pixel. Makes one handed use great again. 🙌
Yes Google have done a good job on everything, but just messed up on one of the most critical parts of the phone - the screen. The quality of the screen is top notch (pun intended 😂), just the shape and extent of it sucks! Especially at the price they are asking for. Both at the top and the bottom. Massive chin and deepest notch on any phone. It's going to look old and dated really fast, especially next year. Only other thing they could have done better, is a more reasonable price and expandable storage.
I'm really intrigued by the "zoom" feature of the camera. How it can apparently use the micro-movements of our hands to stitch together a sharper image. I don't doubt that google can do it and I wanna see proof! Show that off for us will ya!
Note 9 - $1000 Pixel 3XL - $900, I do have to give you the fact that it's $1000 for the 3XL if you upgrade it to the 128GB version and you get 6GB of RAM of the Note 9. However, that camera on the Pixel is crazy. And vanilla android is awesome. And real-time updates, unlike Samsung where the updates are piss poor at best.
Really? Pixel camera isn't crazy good compared to note 9. Maybe slightly better...however, note 9 has everything else better. Everybody knows it. Google should let LG make its phones.
@@whiterabbit8675 note 9 maxed out version is 512 gigs . Pixel 3xl is 128 gb. What are u getting at ? Also samsung provides monthly security updates. Albeit major updates are usually late, but most of the features of new updates of google are already in their older versions.
Went and looked at the pixel 3 in person at the store. After about 5 minutes i basically forgot the notch was there and how big it was. That camera i think is worth it.
Shakim Riley please own Pixel once in your worthless life and come back. I've Pixel 2 and that phone camera has NO COMPETITION!!! You'll eat your words worthless piece of shit.
Honestly if you actually tried the pixel for yourself instead of just jumping on the hate bandwagon you’d understand exactly why. No UA-cam tech channel has released a review where they’re completely in love with this phone as its not perfect, but they give credit where its due, this is a hell of a phone if you aren’t so bothered by the ascetics. Especially the camera.
Remember with low light too they are adding a low light enhancement update later. That'll make low light incredible. You can't really criticise how hiding the notch works...It's a developer option, for being developing with the phone. It's meant to show you how your apps will work when you don't incorporate the notch.
There's some youtubers who just makes a video about the weakness of a product for views and then there's John, always finds the best thing in every product. 🙏
Unless you're buying this phone because you're a major picture-taker then it's definitely not worth the upgrade. Other than the SD845 and camera, and wireless charging(if that really matters to you) everything else is software which a lot of is coming to previous pixels
That's if you already own a Pixel. I think this phone is also really good if you don't already own a P2. Maybe from original Pixel this might be a decent upgrade.
I think the only reason why Google put the notch is that they just want to support the smartphone trend of notches, otherwise it may affect the sales of their OS to OEMs
Is there no option to make the notch hidden, but the phone still use that area for time and notifications? White font on black text with time, notifications, etc., except where the notch is? It looks like everything slides down to hide the notch with unused black panels.

Lol i just sold my Pixel 2 XL shipping it now, but I want to get this device long term, give it a fair shake and review it on my channel. We will see 🤔
Hey who were all those crazy dudes in that picture? 😉
Good video man.. either a notch or a massive bezel, both aren't great options but sounds like the camera alone makes up for it.
Can you please talk about the standard Pixel 3? It's getting completely slept on
Because Google sent all UA-camrs only 3xl as review unit...smaller one is way more cooler
Everything is exactly the same, except for the size. So why?
So people dont complain about the notch, use common sense specially on internet.
Just realized that your videos actually fill my phone display with out zooming in so thanks for that!😁
I get the camera is slightly better and that there's a lot to like about it but I'm really sad about the new pixel design screen wise. They can do a lot better
For the notch settings. it's not use the space beside the notch because it's a setting for developers to test their apps in a screen without a notch so it's normal to push everything down to simulate a normal screen
All these UA-camrs getting paid to say good things about the Pixel. Such a shame only a hand full of UA-camrs speak the truth about this ugly phone.
I was there....it was awesome. He wasn't paid. It's actually good.
When you get real evidence to support this claim, it'll definitely blow up. Otherwise, this will be just like every "paid UA-camr" claim, fake news.
Getting used to that notch is a serious case of the Stockholm syndrome
There is Face ID on the pixel 2XL and 3 , in settings you search for Security and location> device security> Smart Lock> Trusted face. I use it to make fun of my iPhone X Friends but the fingerprint reader is a whole lot faster. But yes, these phones do have Face ID
5:25 wtf is going on with your shirt
Itay Ganor lol it be windy
That's not wind, that's some supernatural stuff......
Accurate comment from an Esper xD
would love to see some battery testing.....great video though, as always
Great video. Glad to see some people I know get this opportunity! Love ya face Jon. Keep making shit ❤️🔥👊🏼
Can't wait for Pixel 4 having notch at bottom. (just check developer options, it's already a feature)
wtf!
Im gonna suicide if dats true
My godd mann, i have never seen such a interesting review video, damnn that was amazing, enjoyed every single second of it.
The 3 addresses most of the issues people have with the XL. No notch, symmetrical bezels, cheaper, easier to use with one hand- all while having the same specs with the exception of the battery and screen size. The 3 seems like a great phone but in tech news, it is being overshadowed by the endless comments about the XL's unsightly notch.
if only it had 3100-3300 mah. that would be awesome.
@@quchi7232 We don't want another Note 7 incident. Batteries are thoroughly tested, I'm sure there's a reason it's small.
Thank you for the notch info, you are the only one that has figured it out. Everyone else just said that a future update might eliminate it.
Google are being heavily criticized as evident by the tons of comments on every pixel review and some content creators.
@@riley1636 maybe he meant heavily² criticized
Jonathan, great video as always. I can't say enough how much I appreciate your videos and how you always share the limelight with those in your videos! You are everything that a person aspires to be as a true Vlogger. Can't say enough how much I enjoy your videos and the heart that you put into each one.
I am an Apple user, but I would love to own a Pixel, they are great phone. Google does some pretty awesome stuff. I am glad someone took the time to run this phone through its paces.
Keep up the great work and keep those vids coming!!
Moment I heard Sharper than Shannon I just went SKIEEEEUP in my head xD
😂😂😂😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I can imagine the design team saying
“No problem guys just add a notch, they still going to buy it anyways”
I don’t understand but if this was the best design that Google could have come up with in the time frame they had and the resources they posses.... well I’m sorry to say that Google lost me.
I think it's cause they had to include the speakers
Well that’s part of the challenge... what I’ve seen over the course of all these years is that companies have the same problem over and over... design vs technology
if you want to design a phone with good speakers and a great camera without sacrificing design.
Razeen Mohammed- iPhones have stereo speakers since 7.
I'm really glad you optimize your videos for widescreen.
Your IG live brought me here! Thanks bro!
Woooo 🔥🔥🔥
I like Google's method of hiding the notch by bringing the time and battery indicator below the notch level because it solves the biggest problem which notches introduced, the lack of space for notifications on notification bar. It is called notification bar some reason. This also makes quick settings more reachable and if they have never given the notch then it would have been looked as same as it looks after hiding that notch.
That dude at the end is one handsome fella, geez...
Touché
what. He's fat.
Why are you wearing the same outfit
A very good analysis :)...Could you please make a comparison video with Pixel 2? In case of Pixel 3, i'll strongly recommend everyone to go for regular Pixel 3
Mentality of tech consumers today,
Bought a notch phone just to hide it, when a notchless model existed 100$ cheaper AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
But, camera is orgasmo
Just a bunch of spoiled babies i tell you.
The cheaper version has a smaller screen and battery, don't act like it's the exact same phone
@@Axel-ze9mx but when you take out the notch you got a smaller screen
The difference is definitely narrower but the xl still has a bigger screen
@@Axel-ze9mx well you have a point. But this implementation means wasted screen space on the notch. Not really worth the 100 premium if you ask me.
3:24 The earpiece on the iPhone is a speaker too. Honestly, if Google just made the notch slightly more wider it wouldn't have been that hideous to look at.
*This video is Top Notch*
Nice video, very informative! Did you have a change to play with video capture...and the quality? Curious if any of the new Pixels support stereo sound recording.
Nice but I just bought the 5.5 inch model because it is sexier
Bro does your regular pixel 3 produce black bars when watching youtube videos i mean its just a 5'5 inch screen and its got 18:9AR , so getting black bars is pain in 2018 with such small screen.... Cause 5'5 is a very much sufficient for media consumption but when we get black bars it comes down to 4'7 inches right so that makes it too small
@@saivarun8511
I dont have it yet it will ship a week later but i'm pretty sure it will have black bars when watching usual videos, you can zoom in to occupy the whole screen. There are 18:9 content as well like Netflix and selected UA-cam vids so they will look good on it. Yes 5.5 inch is a little small but I wanted to be able to text and grip it with one hand
How the battery life ?
@@saivarun8511 it shows 5inch 16:9 video.
@@desgard confirmed? 5inch 16:9 for media consumption?
I just opened a new tab in Chrome version 69 and realized that the Pixel 3 XL's notch looks exactly like the Material Design browser tab.
so no pixel 3 givaway since you need to replace Austin's phone?? lol... what I dislike is while watching videos or content the image is strangely off centered which gives me a weird OCD feeling! not saying the phone is bad or anything but I'd go with the Razor Phone this time around. that audio and RGB is hypnotizing.
ima go with the rog phone is fine af
Be it iPhone XS or Pixel 3 :P, that selfie photo is very impressive and sharp. I think finally there's a usable selfie. I hate the notch but like you said, if you can hide it, the notifications should move up so as to give that extra display space, which is the whole point of having notch.
How are LTE speeds , BT, WiFi performance? Audio supports LDAC? And call quality?
It's one thing for Apple to seemingly hide the notch in marketing photos and commercials but it's another thing entirely for Google to build in a feature that basically disables it. They're essentially admitting that it's unnecessarily big and I'm sure if you asked someone if they wanted more screen real estate or a louder, front-facing speaker they'd more than likely pick more screen.
lmaoooo I laughed so hard at that video you guys played in the outro too. I watched it after the Google event and cringed the whole time.
They keep lying about screen sizes!!!! Disable that stupid notch and your screen got much smaller!!! I bet it’s the same size as pixel 2XL!!!
However, keep the notch and you get to use the space that was previously a notification bar as real screen space. It's not like they're lying, they never said their screen was how big it is, it just surfaced online. Physically, it is a 6.3 inch display, which is correct.
If anyone was wondering what song was playing in beginning it's Titled Jasmine Dreamer" by Lux Pacific.
Have a god of notch...not a big deal
Got only 4GB of RAM... THAT'S A BIG DEAL
4gb on ipx also..
The hide option should put the time, battery and signal to the sides of the notch and the status bar should be used just for notifications.
I know having good cameras is good and all, but could UA-camrs stop pretending it's the only thing that matters? I must say that the software experience goes first...
No the screen comes first!
Wrong. You look at the software/everything via the screen. You look at the photos via the screen. Therefore the screen is most important.
but google have the screen software and camera nailed. it's just not the best design.
Thanks for the in-depth video on the Pixel3 - appreciated!! 👍💯🙌
Pixel 3 XL (Xtra Large notch)
Yo I just found this guy, but he's hilarious... Def subscribed
You just know its good design when you have to explain why its good design!!
ohh wait thats not how that works!
R.I.P pixel 3 xl
Right...
I'm really intrigued by the "zoom" feature of the camera. How it can apparently use the micro-movements of our hands to stitch together a sharper image. I don't doubt that google can do it and I wanna see proof! Show that off for us will ya!
No one's gonna talk about the fact that Pixel 3XL (128gb/4gb) is the same price as a note 9 (128gb/6gb). well... okay.
The max out version of the pixel 3xl is 250$ cheaper than the max out note 9 and the pixel 3 starts at 800 insteed of the note 9 1000
Really? Pixel camera isn't crazy good compared to note 9. Maybe slightly better...however, note 9 has everything else better. Everybody knows it. Google should let LG make its phones.
@@larock0wns compare like with like please. 128 gb note 9 is 1000$ whereas 128 gb pixel 3xl is 1000$
@@whiterabbit8675 note 9 maxed out version is 512 gigs .
Why does every UA-camr that review this phone sound like they're reading from the same script?
Because they are reviewing the same phone.
So do the Apple fans with their notch and heaphone jacks 😂
They are
Shakim Riley please own Pixel once in your worthless life and come back.
Why your intro is so sad and funny at a time ??
There's some youtubers who just makes a video about the weakness of a product for views and then there's John, always finds the best thing in every product. 🙏
Unless you're buying this phone because you're a major picture-taker then it's definitely not worth the upgrade. Other than the SD845 and camera, and wireless charging(if that really matters to you) everything else is software which a lot of is coming to previous pixels
That's if you already own a Pixel. I think this phone is also really good if you don't already own a P2. Maybe from original Pixel this might be a decent upgrade.
So kinda like going from an apple x to xs like all my friends have done anyway? It's just human nature to want the next best thing.
I think the only reason why Google put the notch is that they just want to support the smartphone trend of notches, otherwise it may affect the sales of their OS to OEMs
If one can ignore the notch, he will get one of the best phone of 2018
Most people get used to it, just the people complaining all the time have never really used a phone with a notch.
Is there no option to make the notch hidden, but the phone still use that area for time and notifications? White font on black text with time, notifications, etc., except where the notch is? It looks like everything slides down to hide the notch with unused black panels.
