Cheers! It turned out a bit ‘heavier’ than I expected but I like it 😉

I think it's the early tracks like this, that made early 80's Electro so exciting. When it was still referred to as Futurist. I feel this excitement still, when I hear yor covers. Here's to an exciting present & future. Great.

Alright, Andrew. That's the most perfect summing up 👍 The early "Futurist" tracks definitely had something very special and never to be bettered, let alone matched. I feel so lucky to have been around to experience this musical awakening and then years later to find someone who totally understands and encapsulates it all in his excellent productions. Cheers, Dave.

Dave, Thanks for your appreciation of my humble comments. Also your continued support of Dek's music.
As for you albatross, Insanity is one of the iconic tracks of the 90's, one for which you should be justly proud.

OMG. Now that's what I call music. Alright, dEk. This has given me goose bumps on goose bumps, excellent work. I can't begin to tell you how important this song is to me but I'll try 🤣
This is the first cover that my first band learnt to play. It was a song that I just got all maxed out on and couldn't stop playing. Seriously, I just used to pick up the tone arm and start it over and over again.
Now for one of my boring stories 🤣
After many years of being a Seagulls fan, admittedly, mostly the early stuff. I got a booking in my old 8 track pre-production studio. The guy on the phone said he just wanted to pop in for a few days and demo some ideas while he was back home in Liverpool. Yes, you know exactly where this is going 🤣
So, on the morning of the first day of the booking I proper sh1t myself when Mike walked in. Basically, he had moved to Florida a while back and still going under the Seagulls name and was back home for a bit. He was with some guy called Eddie, who was his guitarist from America. Anyway, he was wanting to lay down some ideas and come across my studio, probably because I was all MIDI. It was a crazy few days, working for one of your heroes. I even got to program some drums and stuff, not that Mike couldn't have done this himself, it was just more convenient for me as I used a hardware sequencer that he wasn't unfamiliar with. You can probably imagine how surreal this all was but there was one thing that will stick with me forever.
On a coffee break I played him some stuff by the two bands I was in at the time. He was being very courteous, obviously he must have been getting this all the time. However, we got to one song by this band I was putting together that didn't have a name yet. As soon as he heard the song he immediately picked up and when it hit the chorus he just had a massive smile on his face. After the song finished he just turned around and said "that's a hit". Yes, that song, the albatross that I carry around my neck 😆
Anyway, Mike was awesome. Really demanding and super focused, which must have been one of the main driving forces behind the success of the Seagulls. That old thing of "never meet your heroes" definitely didn't apply here.
As for your production, awesome. While I absolutely love the second version of Talking and its way better production. It's the first version that will always be the better version for me. I'm so glad that you chose the original. I can't believe how much of that raw energy you managed to get and if I didn't know any better, I would believe that was Paul playing.
While Mike and the synths were obviously a massive part of the overall Seagulls sound. Frank and Ali were so tight and gave them that dance edge that a lot of the bands of the day missed. However, for me, Paul was what glued it all together. The Seagulls had a balance that no one else had. While they could have easily been described as synth pop, they were way more than that. I don't think anyone has managed to get that mix since, where the guitar was so effortless with the synths and of course the drums and bass.
This is a fantastic production, dEk, on every level and I think this really suits your voice. BTW, it was really interesting to see how you handled the weird synth sounds in the third verse. We always sounded terrible trying to get that to fit 🤣
    Awesome 👍
I hope you are well buddy.
    Cheers,
    Dave.

      Oh Dave...
You know I love your stories and I appreciate you sharing them. Amazing that you got to experience that. It must have been absolutely terrifying at the time!
As for your 'albatross' ... Your albatross is part of the soundtrack to my youth so don't knock it! LOL . Many a good night had throwing shapes around in the nightclubs of Birmingham whilst your 'albatross' was playing. So I thank you for that. In fact, I played it just the other day and remembered those times really fondly .I'm sure it's a tune that still brings a lot of joy to a lot of people.
Those weird sounds the third verse. You really do listen to every detail don't you? You know it took me hours to find sounds that fitted. I have been wanting to do a cover of DEVO's 'Going Under' but haven't been able to get anywhere near that little dischordant synth sound on that track. It sounds like it would be easy to re-create but it's eluding me. If any sound designers are reading this and want to give me any pointers any info would be gratefully received.
Anyway Dave, thanks for listening, for enthusing and for sharing.
Take it easy and have a great weekend

Alright, dEk. I'm just pulling an all nighter doing some editing and taking 5 minutes and come here to chill. Seriously mate, the energy in this track is just pure. On my next Friday night blowout I'm going to have to get well oiled and have a back to back with this, Going Under and Let's All Make A Bomb. I'm not sure, but I think Talking may be knocking off LAMAB at the top of my list. I absolutely love this one 👍 Cheers, Dave.
