A guitar player way ahead of this time… Watching Paul to this day blows my freaking mind!
Wow glad to see people still enjoying this. I showed my daughter this tonight and pointed out where I was in the audience. Its so cool and she loves the music.
Oh that's excellent
That's actually crazy
I can listen to Paul Reynolds play all day long.
Me too. Me too.
That guitar!!!!!!, don't need more words.
Way ahead of everyone. Nobody then and now has a sound like this .Absolutely futuristic space travel sound . Thank God I got to see them front row at six flags georgia. Standing in front of Paul the whole time . That delay guitar sound is the reason I started playing guitar. Thank you A Flock of Seagulls !
Saw them last night in London, miss Paul, Frank and Ali but still great performance. Mike still cool as
Futurist space travel music, you described their sound perfectly!
OMG....that is so cool. I think he used Roland Jazz chorus...and some other analog tape delay...it would be cool to see what other effects he used...hard to tell from the video.
@@JP-pf1nj Roland Chorus Echo Re-501, rat distortion pedal and a Roland Gr300 guitar synth
This band was ahead of its time! Paul Reynolds is the best!!
Paul Reynolds one of the greatest guitar players that many people won't have heard of.
Great footage, thank you for sharing this.
It blows my mind how bad ass these guys were live in 1983…. I loved every minute of this video and Paul Reynolds!!!
Paul was only 20 years old here (he turned 21 later that summer), and was throwing some major rock star poses/moves. He just had this amazing stage presence/aura about him.
Man.... I can't believe it's been 40 years
The Guitar of Paul... Best New Age Pedigree sound.... God in You Paul....
I was there ... it was my 21st birthday and what a day it was!
Sounding good, fantastic footage. Paul Reynolds is locked in.
The version of Man Made @ 46:16 right into You Can Run @ 51:32 is fan-friggen-tastic! Paul Reynolds isn’t underrated, he’s the most recognizable synth pop guitarist from the 1980s.
But, wow, cannot give the man enough accolades. The tone, the moves, the glasses, the relevance. Legendary.
A great deal achieved without the "synth" part, actually. Just unusual use of tones and echo. He did use an Ebow as well for Wishing. But agree he is a good guitarist.
Extraordinario❤
Absolutely 💯 Paul Reynolds sound was unique and no one will ever sound like him.
Those times will never come back. Great band, great music
Every time I reminisce about the 80s decade, I always listen to a flock of seagulls. They were so amazing 🤩
"Wishing" to me just oozes the 80's, where is my time machine I'm ready to go back, no really I am. I sure hope Heaven is like the 80's
Watched them on Bands Reunited. They helped define the 80's, and electronic music. Great band.
fun fact ...the bass player Frank Maudsley went to my school St .Teresa's in Norris green Liverpool 👍🙂
Watching VH1 “Bands Reunited” He sure seemed like nice, fun & genuine guy!!! 👍
One of the best bands of the 80s. Makes me proud of my home town Liverpool.
Top notch guitarism by Paul Reynolds at 12:12, Man Made Machines. Goosebumps!
I was at US Festival 83 strictly to see heavy metal day and Seagulls and Oingo Boingo changed my music appreciation so much.
Also was there for Heavy Metal Day. (Sunday) Was 17 and broke! I'm watching this for the first time and realizing what I missed out. I appreciate all genres of music!🙂🎸🤘
My God! "US Festival 1983" i remember that ,i watched this on TV in 1983 i was 15 years old and very fan of Flock of Seagulls.
Man Made! Paul took this one. Paul is an 80’s icon. I don’t think he really knows it either. Love you P.R. ❤️😘😊🥰
PR definitely took this one
Right on!!!
I agree...love that he plays both his own lead, and rythmn...(spelling...sorry)
Oh he knows now. Finally getting the recognition he always deserved.
I was lucky enough to see them on this tour. I was 14. I had the PR haircut. The Fixx opened for them. Such a great memory
I love these old videos. Brings back memories of limited technology and what we had to deal with playing live. In the first song the guitarist (Paul Reynolds) keeps looking at his amps like he’s saying one day they will make a gadget that will let you tune the guitar on the fly. At least someone one was on the ball with a properly tuned guitar for the rest of the show. Probably the aluminum neck (Kramer XL-5) hit the heat and went crazy. I was into different music back then, but AFOS were a cool band.
@AudioAtmos Thank you for your intelligent reply regarding the onstage sound quality. I'm the moderator here. If I may add: This is historic video footage that has been through many channels which over time alters the audio sequence. Just please enjoy this rare AFOS concert performance & musical legacy. Cheers!!
I once had the opportunity to play a Kramer guitar; I didn't like it because it was constantly out of tuned because of the aluminum neck.
I saw them at US 83. Definitely worth the wait and what a show. I remember it was so hot but so was the music.
I was there ✌️😁. 18 yrs old. I still think about what an epic festival it was
Hell ya! I lived in Chatsworth and wanted to go so bad but never got tickets. Cheers!
Man, I was 19 at the time and I missed a show they did in Philadelphia with theFox and I have never-lived it down!!! I still regret it to this day all because I couldn’t get a ride. I didn’t drive yet. -Loved this band since and still! THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS!!!!❤
I was never really " into" these guys but I.always loved the guitars on the radio hits i heard.
I dont know. Im digging this. I might have to go out and buy some Flock.
Right there with you. It think his hair just pissed me off back in the day. Ha.
But recent listening has gotten me more intrigued. Good stuff.
One of the best guitarplayer ever. I am not kidding. Totaly awesome...
The Edge before The Edge.
He's so young too.
@@roamlikekane Yup. Paul was only 20 still during this performance (he turned 21 that August).
@@AntwhaleNearfar U2 predates FOS by several years.
It's wonderful to see Paul playing the guitar ❤ As if i were in heaven ❤
I was there! First day of the festival and The Clash headlining. Glad someone recorded this because cell phones weren’t a. reality.
A flock, better with age, seen em a few times in norCal. Thanks for the good times n memories.
cant believe this is 40 years ago, where does time go, great concert,
Not a single Fkn mobile phone in the crowd - how great is that?!! People just enjoying the moment..
I saw them the same year in Toronto at the Police picnic. What a great concert and these guy were brilliant. Paul's guitar work was incredible.
This Guitar just this guitar sound is awesome
As far as I am concerned, the 80's was the last decade for great music. These guys were awesome.
The 60's War-Music, the 70's Psychedelic's and Disco, 80's Friday night go dancing get drunk, Saturdays, rinse and repeat, Sunday, recover if you survived Friday and Saturday.
Yes, it was. No one can tell me that the 80's was not the funnest decade ever. GenX had a blast.
Paul Reynolds, Johnny Maar, Will Sergeant and Rick Wilson… brilliant 80’s guitar players!
Yep.
Wilson played like two guitarist s at once , just like you said the 80s had such great tone , Marco pirroni was another great one with his chainsaw sound
I saw them with the Go-Gos! I met some of the Go-Gos Charlotte McCaffrey and Gina Shock at the Gaybar Boathouse after their show! They stayed at Sheraton Crest 4 blocks away! Same stage costumes was the BEST!
Cool! I saw them with the GoGo’s at Timber Wolf, Kings Island. Awesome
Wow.. just wow.. a FULL Flock performance. It took a few songs for the guys to come into form but the last 30 minutes or more are fantastic. Mike is in full Flock hair mode.. his brother Ai is rock steady on drums, Frank is a great dancing, rhythmic bass player and Paul Reynolds on guitar is wonderful and beyond. Paul that guitar sound is a giant definition of modernity. Lead guitar, rhythm guitar and keyboard all in one.. the crowd seems a bit underwhelmed. That’s what happens when you are looking at the future and don’t realize it. I can see why this fragile quartet didn’t last long. The US Festival seemed almost unreal to those of us in the Midwest at the time making $4.25 an hour. In retrospect this was the best music festival of the era, and maybe of all time?
In ‘83 min wage was $3.25/hr so you were doing good!! 😂
Flock of seagulls great band of the 80's. Mike was so cute & a gr8t singer ❤❤
For people who only knew them for their hits, I hope they take the time to listen to songs like Over the Border which may be the best song they do live.
This is all I ever wanted please don't let this video get deleted thanks so much
The guitar is bad ass!!!
RENO,underated and so young,class guitarist.Thanks for this.👍🇬🇧
Been looking for the full set for awhile now....thank you
Synth geeks take note...the Roland SH-101 was making great music long before the acid-soaked raves of the 1990s! In fact, Mike has two if them in his rig! 👍😎👍
Right on! I have an issue of Keyboard magazine from 1983 that has a good interview with Mike. He talks about his gear in that era.
What a lineup for the festival. A great year for music.
Top class guitar playing from Paul reynolds
Renno is so cool, even today!!
God I miss these dayz, and listening to the Flock of Seagulls. I listened to their albums everyday when I was in high school. Thanks for posting this awesome classic performance. My brother was at the US Festival; I didn't go but wish I had now.
... The Traveler... one of my all time favorite songs... hard to think this new wave band could rock ... but THEY COULD ROCK ! Also THE FALL and OVER THE BORDER ... all GEMS
Awesome Music, Band and Performers. I realize that i was so right to love their music at this time. and i am still in 2022-04
Paul Reynoldsなにもかもが素晴らしい。
Their music flows beautifully...
Ahhhhh... the 80's sound! AFOS was part of the 80"s pop culture with their unique sound. There were a lot of bands that came out of the 2nd British Invasion musically. Whenever I hear this band, I'm thrown back to that era. I sure miss those days! I'm so glad I was able to experience the 80's. I want my MTV (back). 😁
Love this group.
You can Run is amazing.
Those drums scream '80's!!
HELLL YEA LMAO
Glanzleistung,Paul Reynolds💪🙏👏👏👏❤✌️💘
The full performance, excellent, thanks.
Man Made Fkn Killer! (That sound!) Paul you were incredible. You have no clue.
YES! Finally the full gig!!! YES YES YES! Greetings from Peru!
Da hat sich Paul Reynolds selbst übertroffen💘🕶🎸sein Gitarrensolo 💘 Super ist noch zu wenig gesagt!
I saw them live a month after this. It was one of my favorite 80s concerts.
The bass on the fall is wicked 🤘🎸🎸🎸
Agree.
39:45 two Roland SH101 ... this is awesome !
Saw them in June 1982 at Perkins Palace in Pasadena with Slow Children. Great show!
I frigging love these guys ❤
¡Muchas gracias por subir esta joya ! 😊 ¡Paul Reynolds! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
My first concert was the US Festival. Great three days of Music!
You were there all three days? If so, I'm just curious, did you stay there or commute? I'm not familiar with the surrounding area or how that would have worked. Seemed like such an incredible concert though.
@@davec3901 The US Festival was at Glen Helen grounds. Some of the concert goers were able to camp out in the camp grounds.
Millón de gracias por subir esta joyita. 👏👏👏👏
Talk about the look and sound of a quintessential 80’s band!
You can never have enough Roland Jazz Chorus!
Well, you kinda can.... hahaha! (says the guy with 4 of them....)
discovered this band few years ago... just don't know how I miss them in the 80's (most probably the dj's in the country where I lived on those days didn't like them or just never heard of them) anyway this is a jewel of video of the full concert, thank you for sharing!!! P.S. oh gosh, Paul was soooo hot!!!
Nice and solid bass sound too 👌💜
Reno and Maudsley,,Complemento Perfecto..
Buena música de los 80
En concierto
Recordando muchos momentos bonitos de esos años ahora que estamos en 2022
Happy birthday, Reno🎉
The mighty Gibson RD Artist bass. Jumping around with 13lbs around your neck!
Thank you very much for posting this, I've been looking for many months and never found it, thank you very much for posting this relic here on UA-cam
Just awesome
There sound defined what the 80s was all about
I never get tired of watching AFOS! brings back a lot of 80''s memories hearing these songs and seeing them play. Thanks for sharing this video🎸
Just so cool!
Paul Reynolds played so good on all the tracks, but 'man made' WAS NEXT LEVEL.
Está increíble!! Thanks a Lot!
The best music of all time. Eclectic, complex, guitar mastery, and fantastic singing. The perfect music. 🤪
Thank you for uploading this
Thank you for digging this one out. FOS, a bit underrated back in the day in my view. The Simmons electronic drum kits gave a super ooomph to the sound and not people were using them, so this was a bit unique.
I was there ! My friends say I has a great time!
@@YouBDubes algo normal no? Chop suey es una obra de arte pero la escuchas en vivo y nada que ver con la de studio
Amo a esta banda!!
This band was ahead of its time. Paul Reynolds is the best!
EXCELLENT BEAUTIFUL AMAZING SUBLIME INMORTAL THE 80 AMAZING RULES 🎼 🥁 💫 🙏 💫 🎶 🎵
Flock of Segals, Missing Persons and the Police are my favorite 80s bands bc they were not cookie cutter . Yes they all had that 80s sound but all 3 had amazing musicianship. Paul's guitar work made them stand apart. Missing Persons were all Zappa alum and those songs are more technical then they sound especially US Drag. The Police were just on another level. Both Copeland and Bozzio are in my top 10 favorite Drummers
you probably already have but if not watch Stuart Copeland play wrapped around your finger on the drum cam video, plays the shells ,everything!! 👌😎
Interesting how normal Paul looks when fashion was everything. Jeans and Nike shoes
He made "normal" look cool.
There was a fashion for the clean cut/preppie look in the early 80's as a backlash against the shaggy "blue collar" fashion of the 70's.
Very Cool.. first time hearing or seeing "The Fall", Live at 24:38 . A very trippy tune off of their Listen LP..
Yes, interesting, also "what am i supposed to do" is very good...
the traveller sounds sick
My fave this!
Great group..
Damn all that Roland gear 👍
Roland amps... 80's mainstays for chorus/echo pop music back then. And then Paul Reynolds I think is running his guitar through a Roland Space Echo (?), the same box that Dave Fielding in the Chameleons UK played through. Very lush chorus & echo.
