3 years later, still a good help! Thanks!
Excellent video, I just bought one of these bikes and wanted to do an oil change, I saw the twin filters had no idea about the screens. Thank you
Quick, extremely informative, you explain things in the most simplest form, if somebody can't figure out how to change your oil after watching this video they need to stop writing motorcycles and maybe get a a trike bicycle or something, maybe a two-seater bicycle..... Because you are duuuuuuuuuuumb. 😅
Great job dude, you got a new subscriber 👍👍
Take care,
~Jonny5🥁
I appreciate the comment about the thick/thin ends of the long screen. Pretty hard to notice there is a difference by eye otherwise.
Thanks for showing the differences in the filters the size differences between the rear and the front I've seen many videos and they do not show the difference but it is obvious when you take them out but it isn't obvious before you order great video
i use castrol 5w50 and its actually pretty good ...15w50 is what mine did say for the temp area from factory though
sir u need to fill the oil filter with helf of oil . when u reaplace to new filter. this is even writh on service manual. the reason when u start the bike there is few second until the filter oil is fill and the bike upper enigne dont get oil .. this will not destroy your engine if u didnt do it. but i think for the long run. this will be effect. btw i have exc 525 2004.
No it won’t. There’s a second or two maximum to build up the oil pressure, residual oil inside the engine will take care of it.
@@Dansyoung He said it wont destroy your engine. I can say from experience, on my 450 that it definitely effects the amount of oil i have to put in. I have done it both ways and if the filters go in dry you need to add more than the factory recommended 1.1 L(whatever it is)
Great vid, have you made a how to vid for checking valves on RFS?
crazy how you just made 3 videos and dipped out. This one is great and it wouldve been nice to see more content
He did not change the oil correctly. You need to lay the bike on its side to refill the oil filters otherwise you will scar your cam.
@Grant Dickerson you're right. You are supposed to lay it on its side for this.
You need to tip the bike on its side, fill both oil filter cavities half way before installing new oil filter.
Nice and informative!! Thank you !!!👊🏼🙌🏼
Very informative thank you.
Thanks, its a very good video!
Good video man thank you
I'm pretty sure the manual say to fill the oil up to the bottom of the sight glass, iv tried filling it up to half way and it blows smoke when going down hill because it's over full
Hello, I’m trying to locate the tool that you use in your video to remove and reinstall the side oil screen. It’s very tough to put the screen back in without the tool. I’ve checked Amazon and the dealership and no one can seem to locate the tool. Per your video, it’s shaped like a T. Any idea where to find this?
Have you done timing chain? make a vid!!
Thank you bud 👍🥃
great video man 🖒🖒
Thanks, I appreciate it.
Hello
I have been searching the whole internet 😞I have a 525 EXC from 2004 in Europe and I want to mount supermoto wheels. However I have no idea what size to buy, especially the axles... is it 20mm rear 20mm front??
hello ,what battery do you use on the ktm 525? do you have an automatic decompressor?
Somebody knows dimensions of the oring from the short screen? I cant find and my oring is broken
Little tip here: ( this is mentioned in the manual too ) the oil should almost reach the top of the sight glass because than it is on the maximum so if it falls over or especially in a wheely it gets the oil better, u have a little longer change Intervall and Zou don't have to worry about the burning of the oil so in 20 hours it defenetly won't go ounder minnimum
no!!! to much oil destroys the oil pump!!
@@bouncinnn450 could you pls explain how that should be possible ?
@@totiwars8333 imagine you are swimming in a closed room, no problem because there is air obove you. But if this room is filled up with water all the way up to the top you will drown.
@@bouncinnn450 I dont get it is only filled up to the maximum and not to the top if the engine how should an oilpump drown
It doesn't hurt the oil pump. Too much oil can block the breather port in the case. Which then can blow out seals. Well known issue. You want the level halfway on the sight glass after sitting overnight.
Where can i get that crush washer ?
i just bought a ktm 525. super helpful
How are you liking yours so far? I just got one a few days ago... I have to fix the hydraulic clutch slave before I can go riding though
@@dustincookson5479
I bought mine at the end of winter (2024)
2005 KTM 525 EXC, it had 2600 miles on it..... That's it, I had to buy a new chain oil change and the back tires got about 40% on it.
I upgraded my tank to a 6.6 gallon desert tank and put a couple of more adventure mods on it,
And dude let me tell you, this bike is fire..... FIRE.
It rrrrrrrrripps.
I couldn't be more happier.
PLENTY of power and I thought maybe with the bigger tank on it the center of gravity was going to get messed up but it only made it better. And I can ride all day and still make it back home on 1 tank.
I don't think I've ever had a better bike than this, and I've had lots of bikes.......
I see your comments from 3 years ago, do you still have yours ? What do/did you think of it ?
I am anxious to hear back from you.
Take care,
~Jonny5🥁
hello my friend I've recently brought a 2006 525 exc I've gone to do a oil change and noticed there is the main oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine at the back and only 1 oil screen drain plug on the left side by the gear lever but not any other drain holes for the little oil screen, I thought the 525 exc had 2 oil screens 1 long and 1 short is this normal on 525 exc,s or do they all have a long and short oil screen, thank you my friend....
JESSIE JAMES. ever learn any more? just bought same 06 bike need info
Great video! I am wondering why it is called a RFS motor? I have a KTM 450SX 2004, and it has the same motor as yours.
Racing Four Stroke :)
Yep, nailed it.
Google is your friend
all my plugs are stripped except the Allen one, what do I do?
Sell it
Turn the bike upside down and drain through filler port
I thought you had to use a oil that was for wet clutch
Молодец братюнь))))!!!!
the manual instructions call for placing the bike on its side, filling the oil filter housing half way with engine oil as well as filing oil filter with oil and placing into filter box.... did you follow this step?
You are exactly right. This step is very important for getting oil into the engine more quickly upon restart.
The other thing it does it not spill oil all over the side of the engine. If you're careful you won't even spill a drop.
Another thing that's worth mentioning is that the internal hex in the stock bottom screen cap is prone to stripping. If it does, it can be removed with a stubby easy out. After that you should install the newer designed cap that has an internal Torx and 13mm external hex.
I have the 450 2007 manual and it doesn't say that. But I've seen people do that on older bikes than rfs
how would you do this on a quad?
@@moto_leprechaun soak the filter in oil before fitting or tip quad on its side
@@PlantedTankPT I have a 2007 450 owners manual in front of me right now and in the 4th step on page 50 it certainly does say "put the motorcycle on its side and fill the oil filter housings about halfway with engine oil. fill oil filter with il, place the long oil filter in front and short oil filter in back of the filter box."
Good
I done stripped the second oil screen bolt 🤦🏻♂️
It would be interesting to know how many hours he got out of this bike changing the oil incorrectly. Normally it's around a hundred hours after this oil change at a maximum before the cam will snap in half.
What was incorrect? Not filling the filter cavities with oil?
@@Evil_Morty2000 You have to lay them on their side to refill the oil filter housing And install the oil filter caps as so there are no air bubbles.
Old video but tip the bike on its side when changing the filters!
I just finished the oil change and when I start my bike the oil in the site glass goes way down and looks watery.. wtf did I do wrong. God I am a moron
and the mileage interval to do an oil change?.................
I change 500-1000 on mine, which spends most of its time on the street with Supermoto set up
@@cal40888 im buying a 06 525exc friday how do you like it for highway use?
Steven Sandoval I won’t get on the highway unless I have to, that’s what I have my street triple for. But it will cruise 80 mph no problem you really notice the wind though
@@cal40888 is it buzzy at 75 mph? Im on a drz roght now and 75 will have your hands numb in 30 min
@@stevensandoval2218 no it will do highway fine. I hate to say it but if you're intending on using it for a daily/commute the DRZ is a way better choice
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎
2:15 Mine was a torx key???!!!
The hex key sump screens tended to be very soft and round off so they swapped to a torx type so lots of people swap to the torx just to be safe.
05 525 exc rfs motor i think
This bike is actually an 07. You can tell by the black wheels and frame.
That oil looked milky
