Having an issue with my triple too. Not running on all 3. Hate not knowing anything about fixing sleds, garages are ridiculously expensive and offers to help never seem to pan out. Hoping to learn some things on my own through videos and such
Sounds exactly like my 600XC did when I first got it. It had been left with same old fuel slowly turning to varnish for many years . Took pulling and soaking the carbs in berryman dip overnight. Good running sled once you get the previous owner's ghost out of them. They may not be new, but when running well they hold their own.
Bought a 97 XLT special last year only 200 miles on it. Same has in it since 1997. Never attempted to even start . Pulled the seat off and drained and flushed 20 times or more. Pulled out line from tank and replaced with new filter and line and pulled all 3 carbs and soaked for 2 days. All fresh non ethanol fuel and runs like brand new as it should. Now I do not want to drive because it is a museum piece it’s so perfect. Truly a time capsule going to hang it up in my man cave. But yes I will lower it and drive it a little to keep it fresh.
Make sure you have the right plugs in it( really important) take the air box off and check to see if all the slides move up and down at the same time ( really important). I’ve got a 98 xlt I bought in 2002 and rode xlt’s since 1997. The Polaris big blocks I think are the best sounding sleds out there.also check the base for gas in the bottom, there are a couple of bolts in the bottom for drainage. If you have had carb trouble you probably have gas in the base.
currently having trouble with my triple atm with carbs i think wants to run but doesnt wanna stay running been stumped real hard last few days got spark getting fuel i just dont know if the carbs are synced right or not any tips?
@@acidicbeatzz4758 check to see if you have gas in the motor base. There is a plug at the bottom of the motor. Your carbs might to be cleaned. You need to take off the air box and grab a mirror and slowly squeeze the throttle to see if your slides on the carbs go up and down at the same time.if you don’t shut off your gas the gas leaks into the base. Start you sled and shut off the gas and see how long it runs. With gas in your base it will run for a while
@@nevysnova hey man! I’ve Got a 97 xlt 600 limited triple like in the video. I Had noticed the coolant reservoir blows out coolant while riding (over flow bottle was filled up about half way when I started). I tried changing the head gasket to see if that would fix the issue but still seems to be doing the same thing. You got any thoughts what the issue might be?? Thanks!
loved the vid, got a 96 xcr from my uncle who had it sitting in a warehouse since 2012, new fuel pump diaphram, new gas, new gas lines/fuel filter, and cleaned the carbs and she runs AMAZING, hope to see more footage of the xlt man!!
Since this video is gaining lots of traction at the moment, I want to clarify that the issue was bad fuel lines getting plugged because the previous owner never drained the old gas out and it sat for 10+ years. I appreciate everyone's advise but the snowmobile runs great right now!
Yes I have a 650 triple and they will blow right up if they aren't broken down and rebuild at least every other year. The twins like the 400 and 500s can just go forever all dirty and shitted up. Literally zero maintenance required on the 440s and 488s
:( I would've bought this sled from u for spare parts on my 600 since it's so hard to find and u got a lot of original stuff there.... u still willing to sell tho? :D
My xlt not only looks new but runs perfectly. Always let a triple warm up and synchronize the carbs you won't have any issues. At least mine doesn't and I bought it new
@@traviswilson5725 It turned out to be the rubber safety plug. The rubber had gotten old and cracked, and no longer held it in place. Replaced it with a new one, and it fired right up after previously burning through three recoil ropes. 😖😖😖😖😖
first of all chek the fuel line inside of the fuel tank also add an air box those xlt dont like to run without an airbox and it sound like its having a crank or magneto seals issue by the sound it makes
I loved mine!! I'd beat all the Arctic cats on the frozen lake. Over 60 MPH it was happy!! It was a 1996 XLT.600. I rebuilt the carbs and a few minor things it was extraordinary.
The way that you work on these sleds is you put a stand under the back of them and you run through the entire thing until you figure out why it's not ripping fast leave it on the stand until it is idling good and very responsive at the throttle
12:00 its just a bad design all together the couldve put the tank at a slight angle and put the hose at the back or front of the tank, without the in-tank line
Xlts are some of the most reliable sleds polaris ever made. My parents had 2 95s they bought new and went over 10k each before they sold them still running
Stop running it without the air box!!! You must run it with it Installed. It changes the fuel air ratio to the carbs bit more importantly stops snow and junk getting sucked into engine! If the box is lost at least install Uni foam filters for each carb. Oh maybe give it a compression test to see if all cylinders are good?
This video is old, check out my latest videos of the XLT, it's piped and runs amazing.

No point in having such a quick machine and not using it.
If you’re wondering if she’s running on 3 pull a plug off 1 at a time see if anything changes
My xlt ran good with the choke on too. Turned out it was BLOWED UP.

Run br8es in those xlts that was the dealer update to prevent fouling. I was a dealer back in the day

Mines same way and is stupid fast stock
Great video buddy! I drain the carbs on my outboard, and sleds. Oiling the cylinders with premium oil does great for storage.
Thank you! It was definitely a learning curve working on a machine I previously knew nothing about or how it was taken care of.
@@braapaholic the previous owners had the machine but I'm definitely learning from your vids! Keep posting love these good vids!
the best part is pull back the sled in the garage. 💪
great video
Whats agood upgrade for the xlt take that weak red spring.out of secondary clutch put a silver blu out of a xc 600 700
At least yours fired up! Mine is dead, with no spark! Ran great last year, for the one mile I put on it, with a lack of snow.
Coils

Could the exhaust be clogged? This will affect the way it runs.

Make sure all your slides are working. And make sure your carburetors are set exactly the same.
At least you can easily work on those old sleds.
My 488 will run on crisco and vodka for decades. Y’all can keep the triples.

I had a EXT600 triple not a chance
I hate trying to pull and pull and pull my Indy but gawd damn do those tripples and stingers sound AMAZING
Mine won’t fire up until I’ve been pulling and spraying starter fluid for about half an hour but damn does it sound good and loud
Put a silver blue xc secondary spring get rid of the stock red spring cause it will make the power flat like taking off in 3rd gear.
Thanks for the advice
You can thank me and my dad for the old gas lol
Never again lol

Its ethanol that eats the fuel lines. Its terrible for carbs too.

Hahaha! If you know, you know. Well said.
Can you show a video on how to take the magneto off?
Old gas
.bad... not doing the fuel tank clean out and flush EVERYTHING first.. way worse
I've tried looking through the comments....what year is this sled?
96
So why the garbage statement? This sled is a quarter century old and your expecting perfection!
You're taking it to literal
Got mine for free. I'll get it running right.
My mine keeps stalling out and reving high and dies out
love them wedges looks clean
If you run rec fuel you will not have this type of problem.
These sleds need to run premium in them. Rec is not the answer for everything.
Had an xlt years ago was way to much work to keep it running. Had ski doo and yamaha triples that were much more reliable.
My Artic cat 600 triple used Iridium plugs
What’s was the problem
Il take that off your hands
Airboxes help with back pressure. Always have the airbox on. Yeah I know they are a pain to take out, but you need them to have it run right
They are unreliable but I love mine to death
Hey someone that gets it!
It's the only sled I will own because they're so reliable if you know how to work on them

It’s an Indy triple I don’t know what you were expecting
This vid is why the dislike being gone sucks.
stupid simple trick to see if all 3 poppin.... spray a lil water on the ex pipe on each hole... guess what happens when there firing.. hahhaahaha
Clean those carbs especially the air jets
my xlt is mint and runs mint
When you pull a pull start you don’t just pull it you slowly pull it out so the dog ears ingadge then you pull it
Yeah 2 strokes don't run good with the gas cap off 🤣
Stator
Change your title! Your disrespecting many great running XLT’s out there.
