I personally watched Jim Flick kneeling on a towel and hitting the ball almost as far as when he was standing. He claimed that a good percentage of distance comes from the arms and wrists and that rotation and lateral movement creates the remaining amount. Made sense to me then I think the key is timing of using all of those.
