- Made a part that I was missing for my mills bomb, so I figured I'd see how quiet they were with a delay train set up. used visco wrapped in tape as a stand in for safety fuze since I didn't have any.

My Father was in the Royal Ordnance Corp in the 50’s and there was a Drill instructor who used to do exactly what you have demonstrated. He would insert the detonator, pull the ring, release the lever and unscrew the base plug placing the fizzing fuze on a desk. One day he attempted this, but had mashed the threads and couldn’t remove the base plug and detonator. It blew him and half dozen other men into bloody rags. The moral of the story is: Don’t fvck around with Ordnance
How would he keep the cap from detonating on the desk after he pulled it out of the grenade?
The idea was that the burning fuze assembly was removed and would make a small bang “safely” on the desk.
I guess hearing and seeing were not big on their priority lists if they are setting off a live grenade to start with.
I'd want to pack something non flammable like microcrystaline cellulose around the fuse so it doesn't have a chance of a spark skipping the fuse train and setting off the squib/cap.
The original was just a piece of time fuze from the looks of it, I'm guessing that was enough to keep it from happening. If making "real" ones I'd definitely be worried about that and look into something like that as an added "safety"
Greetings from the states Can you make a video on how you made this it looks so well done the part in which the primer sits or did you fashion it from something I would to try and make one for mine it would look so nice
Steel bar on a mini lathe. It is pretty simple so you can get a drill press or hand drill and a file and make one that way too. You can also find originals for sale from english sources pretty easily too.
I have a No36 Mills Bomb and I noticed that the drilled holes in the body are in PRECISELY the same places as on yours. I guess they're for deactivation. I know that drilled out grenades were used for training in national service. Does anyone know anything about the drilled holes?
Do a Smoke Bomb : Black Powder applied as a wet paste (powder + water)to the interior wall. A coating of 1/2 centimeter or less. Let it dry for a couple days and it will not explode. It will just burn. Make sure the fuse is touching it. The gas and smoke will come out trough the deactivation holes. You can also add colorant chemicals to the powder for a colored smoke effect
Yeah If i get the extra piece that screws into the inside of the mills, I will attempt a smoke version, just inorder to make the fuse go though I would have to damage a part that is in good condition right now.
This used a composition of barium (bury-em) nitrate & wiley coyote explosive. Reminds me of the Yugoslavian "conflict grenades" -used a patented material called vitezit. I guess the straight HE is/was too strong. Process leads to the result. Heard the Conflict grenades were disposed of after the yugo wars reached their inevitable conclusion.
Ah Yeah Baratol, Took me a while lol. I don't know if it was a way to use less tnt or if it was more sensitive to cap initiation.
Where did you get that mills bomb? Its a beautiful reproduction.
It's an original that had been repaired and repainted, so I repaired it better than it was, and painted it the original color.
Why didn’t the 22 blank make a bang when it went off?
Because it isnt a blank. Just the primer. Makes noise but the striker makes more noise.
Stray03, I just found your channel and have been binge watching lol. That piat is cool
@@shanek6582 Thanks, Glad you are enjoying it.
What are they for?
What are what for?
Nice vid. I guess Pakistan was the last country to make these officially. It looks like the fuse jetted? Heard the original fuse gave a 99 percent reliable :D 10 second delay. Somewhere there are detailed notes & specs on the fuse & primer. Thanks.
No the fuse worked like it was supposed to I think, that visco burns at 30s/foot IIRC. The originals had 2 fuse choices, thrown grenades were 4 seconds, rifle fired were something like 7 to 9. white Elastic band on fuse for the 4 second iirc, and yellow fuse for the longer one. Yeah I think india or pakistan are the last ones to use the design, but I heard that there was a warehouse in Greece that had a bunch of surplus ww2 ones in it supposedly as recently as 2010. Also from the manual it seems it is a .22 cap with a hole drilled in it and a piece of foil covering the hole, Probably to prevent pressures in the grenade which probably could cause issues with the delay.
Do u know who tatcom 1942 is
The channel where he makes interesting things out of paper? if so Yes, I should be still subbed to him, although I haven't seen him post a vid recently. Why?
Ive seen other people put fussed on pistol primers ant hurt them self.
pistol primers and fuse is usually a bad Idea.
Stray03 true but they where curious and I wanted to see how far stupidity would get them since they didn't want to listen
