I live about a mile from the river in Trinidad. Recognized it when I saw the railroad. I have a ancestor that ran a ferry that transported covered wagons, people, and livestock across the river.
Put in at Cayuga ramp several times and slept on sandbars. Seen my share of gators and moccasins on the Trinity and Sabine. My sister has a place near Big Sandy on the Sabine so that’s pretty much my stomping grounds. But like venturing out. It’s my understanding that around a 13 foot gator was taken about two miles south of the 287 Cayuga bridge. I’ve seen some 10 footers so bound to be bigger. Great video and narration, love seeing what’s around the next bend. The Eagles are plentiful too near 287 bridge, another bonus.
Dennis, I can't believe you went that far!! I would have loved to join you on that trip. I have a Blazer 16/52 with the same jet drive but I am not as bold as your are...yet!! Looks like that is Lock#7 which my quick research shows was completed in 1917 so it has been there awhile. I think that is the last lock that was built too. Very cool trip for sure.
Went and broke piggy bank, Dennis- bought a 60/40 Merc jet like you have. Will be running ona 1848 .125 hull that is of duck boat design. We hunt areas on the West Coast when at times we need a jet more than a mudmotor. If it doesn't work out, then get a jet hull later on. Love to hear your thoughts, good or bad makes no difference. I would rather hear from someone who is honest than an individual who wants to make a sale.....it does have a hunt deck at the transom (transom is 20") just so that is known beforehand.
@@DennisBohannan Not sure on weight, Dennis- 400 lbs.????💁 Not as heavy as a .190 hull for sure, by have seen you on your channel with .190 and .250 hulls testing out the performance. Duck boat hulls usually are heavier at the bow to compensate for the weight of the heavy mudmotors. Thanks for your reply.🙏
I’m not gonna lie I was gonna come and comment somethin about how you didn’t hit that one big rapid but then I remembered you have a flat bottom. Great for shallow but I agree I wouldn’t want to hit it in that by myself. Mod-V with 8-9 degrees of deadrise is PERFECT for river boats in my opinion
Yes, alone and 70 miles from the boat ramp. And you are right this is a shallow water boat. Rapid like that it could make no problem or get swamped in a second.
.. curious to what app you used to capture the data you shared at the end of this adventure..??? ..really appreciate the realness shared of running this stretch of the Trinity River -along with your commentary & information shared..!
.. really appreciate the fast response "u da man" luv your Channel very informative and helpful.. still looking to hear something about the "poly foots"..
@@DennisBohannan I try well used to try to keep up with good fishing spots wherever , whenever I heard of them. Never know when such information might come in handy. Don't stray very far from home lately.
Very interesting video. I just happened on this while in FB but this is a really interesting. I liked the timber rattler. Where are you based out of and is your hobby just running up and exploring different rivers? Have you done the Sabine (above Toledo Bend)? I have a little experience fishing Maine with a buddy (lived there a few years and still go back) and running jets. (115/90) in an 18' Grumman. Very good narration too. Following now. OK, saw your Sabine video. Way up north outta my country.
I live in Mineola, so the upper sabine is home. I catfish in the spring mostly but explore summer and fall. Love the mystery of what is around the bend.
I have a lot of questions about jet boats. How do they back up, are they easy to turn left and right in reverse. I have a tunnel hull propped boat and I want to change it to a jet boat.
Dennis what’s your opinion on a tunnel vs no tunnel I just got a new to me custom alweld they built for a guy it’s a 1250 flat with a tunnel but I feel like the tunnel is way to big for it and I’m going to cut the tunnel out and make it smaller but not sure on a size it should be. Any advise would help thank you brother.
I like not having a tunnel. Especially on a smaller boat. You lose too much buoyancy. Also, lose a lot of lift when on plane. Motor set correctly in a flat bottom does great unless you're rock crawling. Eletric trim is luxury as well.
I do sometimes haha the tunnel on it is 4” deep and 16” wide more like for a prob I think but I suck up a lot of air i tho k cause the boat don’t weigh enough to get it down in the water cause it only sits 4” in the water. Has a 25 mariner on it but looking for a 50/30 with electric trim
Blows out so bad it’ll only run about 17 but I know it should run around 25 or so and the rivers we have down here I was thinking about like a 1 3/4-2” tunnel just cause I don’t have trim yet
Thats awsome in watching fron Alberta Canada up in slave lake Thanks for the great Vid!

Firs time seeing your videos and bro you're a beast with that boat. Gor real. I would never but i love it. Shot out to you and lilly great videos
Thanks

I didn't see any gators, I do see alot of them on the Sabine. I run it up at hwy 14 mostly.

Interesting. Older than I thought.
Was fishing that area and the water rising fast is an understatement! I've never seen anything like it on a river
We Fished this same spot during a 18 foot rise and fell back down 8 foot this spring in just 2 days. It was tough. Got 3rd out 30 teams.
I don't need a tunnel.....two minutes later stuck. lol Awesome run!!!!
Haha.
I have to say #mercurymarine needs to sponsor you!
I agree
I cannot belive you went up that heap. Damn.

I think it will do great. Depending on the hull, it may not turn well at faster speeds. You will get the hang of it. What you think bare hull weighs

I grew up on cedar creek lake. Never knew there was good running there.
I was surprised as well. Always thought the trinity was a lazy muddy river.
I havent been around there sense I was 10 lol
Total badass, im nervous to go rip the bay and get broke down/stuck by myself and you go 150 miles on a sketchy river by yourself.
Well I do got friends I can count on for a rescue. My Missouri trip 2 months ago was crazy. Middle of nowhere and barely knew anyone.

That’s funny. I’m from Alberta Canada lol
Yessir my stomping grounds! Our beautiful trinity the largest watershed in Texas. Found you through @bigrich fishing
Awesome. I will have to check them out.
I've seen the Trinity R. Heard about it before. Something about huge gar swimming in there.
Lots of huge gar.

Hey man where is this boat ramp located I have been trying to find some boat ramps on the Trinity River
Hwy 287 near cayuga
Got me looking up a jet drive for my grizzly tracker 1648
Makes every river longer
You're above or downstream of Dallas? ....Never mind wasn't paying attention!
Balls of steel!
Balls of steel would had hit the big water.

Good one there.
Gators are not just in the river. Was traveling on 287 coming from Palestine and we ran over a 8 foot gator near catfish creek.
I have a lot of questions about jet boats. How do they back up, are they easy to turn left and right in reverse. I have a tunnel hull propped boat and I want to change it to a jet boat.
They just a have a cup that you flip over. Easy amd fast amd reverse works great. A lot of reverse thrust.
What boat deck covering brand are you running and how has it held up?
Hydro turf from gatortrax. 3 years on it now. Still looks good. A lot of traffic on it
What size boat? Lookin to get into shallow water in id its just all rocks
1652. I have videos of my page running in Idaho. Snake river, Payette and boise river in a similar boat to this one.

Them turtle's get to.
what do u film with
Just my phone
🤟 Run brazos all the time
Brazos is great. Any of it is a 3 hour drive for me though.
Whats it gonna take to get you up here to run the James river in Southern Missouri
Ran it about 6 years ago out of table rock up about 40 miles
Any video of it? That's my home river if your up this way again I'd love to run it with you
Not any videos on youtube. It was right after I got my first blazer. Probably 2015.
Oh awesome you'd love running the Finley it's just hard to catch the water right
Why does your engine sound like its hitting a rev limiter when you go over rapids?
Because it is hitting the rev limiter. Any time the pump loses it prime of water, it revs too high.
Heh... "Dallas" water
East fork isnt really dallas water. Middle and west fork is. East fork comes out of lavon.
Where I turned around at was lock 7. East fork run it right above that. Would love to have made it there
Where the hogs
Trinity water =sewer water south of Dallas
Yup. Gross. They are building a 3000 acre filter somewhere along this stretch.
