What you mentioned about this being a fairly natural state for a game at this point is very true. My friend was laughing at D4 for losing something like 40% of it's Daily Active Users, but I think people are in this MMO mentality and are kinda forgetting the nature of games. How many of those 40% were casual players that just played through the campaign, felt fully satisfied, and moved on. Look at any games sales figures and you will see peaks and valleys. Actually in most cases I think even just %30 of initial players continuing to play past the initial hype is considered good. Now you can argue that a Diablo game should expect better, and I would agree that there are some real issues with the state of the game right now, but the core is there to build on and most of the issues are a "it good be better" issue, more than a "the game is broken" issue in my opinion.
I'm a casual player when it comes to Diablo IV and I have been trying to complete season journey over the weekends. I got to level 79 while completing every season journey tasks in the category just for fulfillment purpose. If not season journey, what else is there to motivate me to continue the grind to paragon 100? Now I'm stuck at the task that requires me to kill a world boss 15 times on World Tier 4 and another task that requires me to defeat 5 Hell Tide Commanders. There's another ridiculous one that requires me to defeat uber Lilith. I enjoy doing tasks and then leveling instead of the other way round, where leveling to complete a task (eg: grind to defeat Uber Lilith). Being a casual player, I log in at irregular hours over the weekends, either where there is no hell tide (sometimes Im unable to find the hell tide commanders even when Im in a hell tide) and when the world boss spawns when I'm offline. Now very unmotivated to play the game as no aim when I log into game.
Yeah it for sure is a problem especially when the game notifies you of events makes it very hard for you to time stuff correctly. It's a completionists worst nightmare unfortunately
I think what you said about the hassle of getting to lv.100 to fight uber lilith is a good explaination of how I'm feeling now at Lv.65. having Uber Lilith there is pulling at the completionist in me, keeping me logged in to my first character despite the fact that I would almost definitely enjoy the game more if I started a new one. I suppose it's my own fault and I could just give myself a goal like beat the campaign with each class, but then the campaign at world tier 2 isn't really challenging enough. I could make my goal just to get to world tier 4, and that process I think would be enjoyable, but it just feels like too much of an arbitruary stopping point. Beating Uber Lilith makes the most sense, but that world tier 4 to lv.100 grind is killing it for me. I wish I could start the campaign with a new character at world tier 4 or something like Hell mode in D2. I suppose the scaling levels of the D4 system wouldn't mesh with that, but I really would love a more challenging campaign option.
I completely understand about the gearing situation. My first dip into ARPG games was PoE and I just got into it maybe a week before Diablo came out, just to dip my toes into it and see if I liked it. I cleared the campaign, enjoyed a lot of the end game stuff and got up to lvl 92. The biggest difference I've had with Diablo is that as I've gotten closer and closer to end game in D4, I hit the same wall. I'd be doing higher and higher tier NM dungeons, grinding away for nothing really. Gold or scrap is what 95% of it boils down to.
It really hurts the bottom line of that Dopamine you look for on these types of games. It's one thing that with consistent grinding only getting maybe one item every 3-4 days, but weeks and sooo many level jumps before coming across an upgrade is just a RIP
I change up everything every 2 or 3 levels. Even if everything is working well and I’m smashing. Druid is my main. After level 75, I’m switching it up to Earth and Storm. To everything Wear Bear and then everything Wolf. And then a mix match. And then rock some companions too. I can’t imagine leveling from 80 to 100 using the same build and same gear. That would get boring.
It would be different if the level cap was 80 since the gear progress stops at level 80 , unless blizz plans to introduce Diablo himself later in an expac level 80 would make sense but level 100 really doesn't make sense!
I feel like once I had got into the mindset up "Oh this is gonna be the thing I am doing for the next 18 levels until I get to 100 and challenge (in my opinion) one of the worst excuses of an Uber boss. there isnt anything fun to do that hasn't at this point been drawn out..". I had thought about other ARPGS like POE and I just can't compare the two since POE has been around in seasons for WAY longer and just has so much more to focus on while on the grind to 100. Diablo 4 is still too new and still has so much room for improvement... that being said, I dont believe diablo 4 is a dead game or even that bad, it's just too new right now to have enough content to make it truly worth playing to lvl 100 and hopefully further later on.
I feel like once I get to lvl 55-60 the game starts to just slow way way way down. The upgrades to gear are rare, there are no new skill points or changes to your abilities. I wish they had some type of evolution of abilities where they gain new exciting additions so that your game play keeps getting better more fun.
I actually made this point before the game launched because I felt like they enhanced the skill points system compared to D3 but they missed the mark on adding 1 more additional layer for customization like what your speaking about.
I'm finishing the seasonal battle pass (2-3 more levels) and jumping ship. And the only reason I have the battle pass was for the preorder. I don't have a character above level 70. 1-50 is enjoyable, but by 60 the leveling grind is such a slog that I'm not getting enough dopamine to keep going. Admittedly I could grind gear but yeah, not seeing a real improvement other than item level, IF it even has an item level improvement is not enough dopamine. Too much gear is the same or lower item level than what I have, the few that are higher never have any of the affixes I'm looking for so there's no upgrade if I take it. I stop feeling powerful after 50 and lose interest before getting any real gear upgrades to become powerful again.
legitimate question, you describe yourself as a casual gamer but you mentioned playing the upcoming PoE league. is PoE more casual friendly than I realize? I tried to get into that game many years ago and wasn't very captivated by it therefore gave up before I gained any sort of understanding for it's systems. so going off of it's reputation for being daunting to the newcomer, is it worth getting into for the new player who only has maybe ten or fifteen hours a week to dedicate to gaming?
Actually if you watch my video today and use the 3rd party tools that are allowed some builds are actually very casual friendly. Now some are wild and crazy but there also 3 different types of gameplay that may better suit what you want to do. Mapping for end game bosses, delving, and heist.
Also. The length between patch times for "simple" fixes. Are far to long. Half way through a season shouldn't be a major patch release. PoE does adjustments day 1 most times.
Can also add they could do some fun things with special bosses appearing at the end over the normal. Great assests like andariel and duriel. Like a mini Uber boss. That has a higher chance of dropping chase items.
Are you saying the incentive for grouping is that you can split up and solo dungeons lol that seems like horrible mechanics. I only solo but that made me laugh a little. I prefer poe leveling personally and I have only got to 96 or so but I enjoy the challenge and how you have to make choices of when to level or risk difficult activities with the chance of dieing and losing exp. I do feel like d4 right now is just a skeleton though and I am hoping in time it will get some organs and flesh and shiny armor. So this season is starting to get boring but if they can follow in poe footsteps and have great leagues then this game can be great.

Its a game about getting epic loot.....and the loot system is really lacking.
I agree wholeheartedly
My biggest issue is I had the same gear for about 20 levels... with no sense of upgrade.

Yup. I'm lvl 85 and have no desire to continue playing.

They need gear that drops and is a obvious potential upgrade u might need when u see it on the floor of the dungeon !!
Loot filters would be amazing lord knows how many items I missed on picking up because of inventory being full.
with all those band aids since launch the new mummy class must not be far

I don't blame ya. A lot of people unfortunately are feeling this way. I'm hoping by season 2 or 3 the game is different and a little more robust.

And the point of diablo 3s end game. They have leader boards... gives you something to push for
Go play Grim Dawn (Definitive Edition) the true successor to D2 😊
You feel this way because Armored Core 6 comes out this month. 😊
Oh? Worth checking out?
@@TriggerhappyJon oh yeah. The trailer alone will at the very least intrigue you.
Just watched it.... Looks like a fun game. I'll probably buy it to play but not do content on.@@mrtexican8302

Kill the rep grind, diversify classes/specs, and remove off screen 1 shot mechanics
Dude 1 shot ballistas off screen and environmental damage are what kill me lol for the love of God they need to fix this.
