Best for both parties would be not to qualify him. Let Kakko go to his team of choosing and free cap space to go for more of a grinder.
That is the problem this team has been reluctant to add heavy grinders they keep doubling down on smaller skill guys, Roslovic and Wenneberg at the deadline were flops both are unphysical finess guys when you should have added some size and physicality going into the playoffs, they never learn

I bet if he left the Rangers and ended up on a more physical heavier team that doesn't play off the rush like the Rangers do he probably end up becoming another JT Miller, Amonte, Kovalev etc players that got out of the Rangers system and prospered, if they dont ditch this soft finess style they aint never winning a cup no matter how many times they run it back with the same core and same style of play
Two-year deal for KK @ 2.75M/year. More PP and PK time next season. Kaapo has to hire a reputable power skating coach this summer. His skating and confidence from game to game must improve going forward. Anyone who watched him dominate 30-year-olds at 18 knows that his hands and puck skills are elite tier.
I would also look at moving him to center especially if you trade zibanejad.
Yep, he could be a dominant players if he adds speed to his game. That’s what he is lacking rn he is too slow. He has a lot of potential it just takes longer for some and he hasn’t been getting a lot of ice time
I’ve never been so torn on a player. Both options sound great and terrible.
If he actually wants to stay I would keep him, he had an injury year so I wouldn't read too much into it.
If he is not happy then do him a solid and trade him regardless of what you get for him.
Kakko is ALWAYS injured.
I say give him another short term contract. Let him take 3rd line RW with a full season with Chytl at 3rd line C. His game will eventually come to him around the right players.
Some players just can’t perform when the pressure is on. Kakko panarin zibanejad they’re all the same, idc what they do at this point. The team will never win a cup.
