    I got bored of the hobby ages ago now and unsubbed from the channels as there's not much that can be done with keyboards. Its not really a hobby tbh, its just about trying to find a board that you enjoy typing on and once you have done that you can move on till it breaks. Which is a long ass time. Its a good thing boards are getting cheaper and cheaper, I paid a total of 500+ for my board and now you can get things in the 100 range that sound close enough to it and look close enough. Sure my build quality will be slightly better... But people wont notice that when its on the table, same as my fancy weight.

    About 4 years ago I started to look at making a custom keyboard for the first time, I was always into the 75% ones with a thocky/marble sound but as you know, back then there was NO options for 75% keyboards, esp hot swap ones, with decent quality, for a decent price. I'm so happy the market has moved this direction.

    I think it's good for those of us who are poor. It's never been easier to get a decent board for under $100, that you can just use right out of the box, but also allows you to mod it, swap out the switches, etc...but the focus on 75% sort of sucks. I'd like to get a good 65% (my cat will not be happy with me if I get anything bigger than that, and she runs things here, so I can't upset her)...they do exist, but they're certainly not as easy to find and there aren't nearly as many that are as good as the recent influx of 75% options. Long term though...It does feel like many of these are the same, but at least they're all decent so far, and you can make upgrades and changes to get it to where you prefer. I'd just like to see them remember that other layouts exist.

    • @Miss_Wonderful1
      @Miss_Wonderful1 3 місяці тому +1

      I noticed too that lately it's a lot about 75% (when I got into the hobby 3 years ago it was mostly 60%). I would love to try a flex cut pcb, 65% would be great, because I don't need the F row at all, but I can't find anything budget friendly. Also, living in Europe, I need to pay attention to shipping costs that are often half the price of the keyboard -_-

    • @SaintsPurgatory
      @SaintsPurgatory 2 місяці тому

    At least as a noob who isn't especially fiddly with preferences, I found the Koorui MK104 satisfied everything I was looking for at a base price of $35. Just now looking up the brand, I saw it on sale for $20. The case may not be all-metal, but it's already the heaviest, most solid-feeling board I've ever held. It includes some preset macro buttons and a knob.
    In most cases, I want all the buttons I can get, but I'm starting to think that for work what I need is a 60 or 40 for one-handed typing and a 33-key numpad set on the other side of my mouse.

  • @Zoshiao
    @Zoshiao 3 місяці тому +9

    9:17 I wholeheartedly agree that it feels like EVERY super budget keyboard is becoming the same... And while I don't see it as a bad thing, I think its great that newcomers to the hobby can start with something that sounds THIS good, on the other hand, it kind of ruins the fun I found in the hobby originally when I brought a cheap alu case and a GK61 Kit back in 2018/2019-ish... Back then my build ended up costing around 200 dollars! and it sounded AWFUL! but watching sound tests and other builders on UA-cam gave me a drive to buy a better board, try out new lube and switches! etc...
    I Still watch every new video Hipyo puts out, I know that I'm not really the target audience of most of the boards he reviews, I strongly value: uniqueness, modability and barebones kits... But still these videos are like comfort food for me heh...

      But the community wouldn't grow if it stayed the same back then. I for one just started last month and bought my first pre-built keybs and now I'm looking at feker ik75 to build my own from scratch.
      Being able to buy a pre-built one and experience a decent keybs on a budget instead of starting from scratch and experimenting is quite an easy way to drag in someone to the hobby.
      I actually want to build my own now mostly because I enjoyed swapping keycaps and it's fun and now I wanna go deeper to switches and perhaps modding by myself as well

    I ended up getting this on Prime Day for $66 before tax and it's been great. The stock stabilizers and sound profile are by far the best I've tried on any mainstream keyboard. I'm not a super enthusiast or anything but I've tried Keychron, Glorious, Razer, Corsair and Logitech keyboards and this is the best one by far. I was looking to get the Rainy 75 for a while but it was always out of stock and the price kept going up so I decided to give this a try instead.
    I was mostly impressed with how good the stabilizers are right out of the box, I didn't need to do any band aid modding, there was no rattle or ticking noises on my unit. I must have spent hours tuning my Keychron K8 Pro and Glorious TKL keyboards and I was never 100% happy with them.
    I hope we start seeing TKL or other layouts like this. More budget oriented but a great stock experience.

    I only have one question: where the f do you find keycap set that works with the navigation keys placed in a vertical row at the right?

    Tbh I would be kinda worried if it is 1000hz polling rate because I remember that Gamakay K87 was locked to 125hz. I guess it's only a problem if you're gaming but I think it's still something worth noting

    God I don't know what is so difficult about the PCB on the 75s that DON"T HAVE 4 KEYS UNDER THE KNOB! (Pageup/Down/Home) - I know I can do a macro for the END key or rebind in VIA, but come on. It's just ONE LITTLE KEY.

    One would expect that competition would drive manufacturers to innovate, but it seems they all do the bare minimum but cheaper. Cheaper is always good, but lack of new features makes it boring. Always 75%, "thocky" amounts of foam and no via support. At least they're consistent with knobs, can't say I'd use a keeb without one at this point

    I'm very specific with my keyboard preferences, so I struggle to find a custom keyboard because either one or all of the things I'm looking for don't exist. Macro keys (only one row is needed), in a full-size. Being full-size alone massively limits my options and then it's nigh on impossible to find a custom keyboard with a macro row.
