Secret Joe joke "you got fired up" no one caught it. It was perfect! Thank you.

I noticed that too.

This is so helpful, thanks for taking the time to do this. If screen junkies ever read this, you should totally do this for your longer episodes.
Thank you 🙏🏽
I really wonder what movie Roth and Dan has seen that is great!
music to sleep children
Hero
JTE is a treasure!
Is the thumbnail trying to tell us to be successful Hollywood directors we have to wear thick black frame glasses?!
Yes. Black frames matter.
Hey props to the last guy's question because nobody wants to ask a basic question, gotta get creative 😂
Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory makes me so sad.
Carlton Staples I concur. I’ve never seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so can’t judge there.
This channel is one of the things I am thankful for this year. Thank you, guys, for brightening my day and teaching me so much about movies. Love you!
I love Roth so much
I don't
@@younggriff9792 You must be fun at parties.

In defense of Ridley Scott, like with so many of the other movies discussed, Covenant was mandated by the studio to have Xenomorphs in it. After the relative failure of Prometheus, Fox said “people like Aliens. This film didn’t have aliens, and that’s why it didn’t work. The next one needs to have aliens in it”. So the entire plot with Shaw and David finding the Engineers was forced to take a back seat to another movie about Aliens killing stupid folks. I’m not saying Ridley isn’t somewhat to blame, but he’s not the primary reason why Covenant didn’t work as well for a lot of people.
that does not explain why prometheus sucks
Yeah, it's a shame. They did mention this in their discussion too. I'm actually one of the people that enjoyed Covenant though haha, I thought it had a handful of excellent moments, and like they said, Michael Fassbender was great. But I entirely understand Roth's distaste for it as well, especially given all of the mythology they did away with from Prometheus.
Erickson Gaming definitely agree. I also really enjoyed Covenant for what it was. I was a little disappointed that the story line didn’t exactly continue like everyone thought it would with Shaw and David, but Fassbender was awesome and was so delightfully evil I kinda bought the new direction they were taking. The ending reveal (even though I could see it coming) and Katherine Waterston’s reaction literally gave me chills and left me super pumped for where they might go from there. We’ll see if the next one even gets made though....
"You got fired up" (good one, Joe)
Trick question, Denis Villeneuve doesn't make bad movies!!
Hah, OK.
True
His very first movie released in 1998 wasn't great though...
@@kissmyasthma3155 I know he's take it or leave it on his first two, but the key word is bad. I don't think he's made a bad movie. Ridley Scott made The Counselor, which I think is trash.
@@charley15z was going to say. Just hoping Dune comes out well
Oddly enough, Darjeeling Limited is my personal favourite Wes Anderson movie. It's short and sweet and a lot of it feels like watching a stage play. Then there's the soundtrack which totally sealed the deal for me.
Brandon Lawrence same! I never knew why people didn’t like that film. I think it’s absolutely fantastic and the soundtrack is HEAVEN.
I feel you Roth, Alien Covenant sincerely made me angry. I was so disappointed and actually sad about that one.
You guys are the greatest youtubers ever!!!
They are good youtubers. Maybe I overstated it but I think they are some of the greatest youtubers ever for what they are trying to go for.
They're certainly my favorite. I tune in live every day that I can.
ManateeAdvocate same.
Can't decide if Woody Allen is a GOOD director with some flops, or a BAD director with some hits. lol. The guy is all over the place.
He's neither. But he IS a GREAT writer.
His run from the late 70s to the early to mid 90s is pretty much unprecedented. If he had retired 15 or 20 years ago his track record would be way more impressive.
He's made over 40 films, there's no way some of those wouldn't be bad. However the great ones are some of the greatest American films ever made.
“Alright, Billy Joel.” 😂😂 well played, Dan.
Alien Covenant is nowhere near Ridley's worst movie, its better than Robin Hood or Exodus
ive never seen it, but i heard the Counselor is really bad too, only 34% on RT
@@charlmane1995 It has some neat visuals and some pretty interesting dialogue. Written by Cormac Maccarthy, so worth watching.
I'd say even Exodus isnt anywhere near his worst film, which are Robin Hood and 1942 (and apparantly Gi Jane).
i adore when roth or dan goes on a rant. they are not being assholes or overbearing about it, they are just passionate about the subject. and it is awesome.
Spielberg's most underrated is The Lost World, I love that movie so much....
M Night's The last Airbender....or whatever that was😭
When most of your movies are terrible, I'm not sure you can be called a great director.
Dude, Shyamalan's films were terrible at that time.
Eh, M Night is a good director but let's not hold him to that level
Surfing through old, awesome SJU episodes, feeling nostalgic of precovid times
the Alien discussion was brilliant! I could watch these guys talk about Alien for hours
Aw, wow, what a great episode! I loved it so much! JTE's bit at the end was so endearing! Thanks, y'all!
I like Prometheus but Alien Covenant was bad
So nice to see the man behind the camera! Hope you had a good hunt/christmas-for-yourself, jt
So thankful for the uploads this week
1080p no less!
Alfonso Cuaron is a fantastic director but absolutely hated Gravity.
Eh, I thought it was fine. I do think it's pretty overrated though, and I honestly believe it works a lot better on a gigantic screen in 3D. Because watching it on DVD kinda removes the intensity and thrill.
Timothy Lee it was great in imax. That was what made that movie for me
But Gravity is not bad.
I liked Prometheus and I was disappointed by the follow up of Covenant for the same reasons, I wanted to know more about the engineers! Is there a novelized version of what Covenant was supposed to be because I'm still curious.
The only movie I can think of that pissed me off is Independence Day 2. I can not believe that a group of successful actors, took the completed movie, sat down in the end, watched it and said, we made a good movie.
Except Roland Emmerich is not a great director by any means. Most of his movies are just style-over-substance.
Master Penguin his ‘Godzilla’ is the only Godzilla movie I will accept so far.
Master Penguin what about the patriot
Thanksgiving film to fall asleep to that meets all of your criteria, and is holiday appropriate?
"Planes, Trains,and Automobiles"
Cape Fear is so bad it’s good. It’s probably the most underwhelming film I’ve ever seen. Calling it a “film” sounds like a compliment. It is a “movie”.
JTE - "I like the thrill of the hunt!" x'D LOL priceless! x'D
x'D 32:55 x'D
Dont take this the wrong way. I listened to all arguments and discussions I SWEAR!!!! BUT honestly?? All I can think about is Joe talking about Jennifer's Body. All i want for Christmas is a video dedicated to that movie. I dont even care what the video is. But I NEED to hear screen junkies take on/ talk about that movie!!! 💙💙💙
I got the title question! Also Dale's son is named Spenser.:) Thanks for answering the question.
Officer! That homeless guy was on fire when I got here!!! ;)
Jean-Pierre JEUNET!!! Thanks Roth ;)
JTE is the Cool Greg of Screen Junkies. Kinda Funny Best Friends know what I'm talking about.
Good parenting advice for your younger audience. "Kids! Don't follow the rules!" 🤣
"Thanksgiving is like Christmas, but for myself" 10/10. Agrred, sir.
Damn, I miss those days.
That's my friend Spenser's question! 😁😁
No, Roth, you are absolutely right. I was really angry about Covenant, but Last Jedi made me forget just how angry I was. My pick is Tim Burton's Mars Attacks!
Also the small bit of banter around my name was great!
JTE's shopping plans sound great lol, let him come out and train us in shopping
Dan not feeling MTV was worth sneaking is so spot on to Dan's character...I very much respect it.
Hey Roth, check out Cinema Wins Everything Great About Alien Covenant, it is an enormous pill to swallow and it's not enough to make watching the movie better on repeat views but it helped me not hate as much.
I love that Dan is a rule follower!
I'll say it: I get why Stone's Alexander gets so much hate. I know the studio screwed around with it, so you have to find the right cut, and a lot of people dislike the decision they made about accents. But it looks fantastic, with more than its fair share of genuinely epic scenes, and I enjoy the characters as well.
Before I even watch this: If Hook is on this list, I'm fighting someone. I will fight Steven Spielberg himself about Hook if I have to.
Paul Thomas Anderson's worst movie is Inherent Vice. I made the mistake of having that movie be the first movie of his to watch and it put me off of him for a while.
Alien Covenant was not a good movie by any stretch....but it is FAR from Ridley Scott's worse movie:
A Good Year
White Squall
Exodus: Gods and Kings (!)
The Counselor (!)
Hannibal...which I think is a bit underrated but most folks hated with a passion
Haven't seen Alien Covenant, but it seems like a recurring Ridley Scott problem, that when they do the theatrical cut, they cut out all the scenes that justifies the characters actions and decisions. It was the same problem with Kingdom Of Heaven, the theatrical cut has mind boggling stupid decisions by the main charcters, but in the director's cut, there's one expanded character and one new one, that completely justifies everything the main characters do, and it changes the movie from a decent action adventure film, with glaring problems, to a historical epic masterpiece, that's imo. Ridley Scott's best movie.
I really hope they're selling DVD copies of the director's cut, because honestly, I wanna buy it.
Same, it's also a movie I wish I could see in a theater.
@@masterpenguin8472 It's on DVD and blu Ray.
The Snowman from Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)
Oh I've got one for that last question!
AMERICAN HORROR STORY. The cast is fantastic; the show itself is ehhh. I want to see Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, etc. work together on something phenomenal. The acting talent has always been far above the writing with this show. I know a lot of people stand by it, I mean it can be a lot of fun at times and it's decent for horror fans, but it's never reached the bar that's been set by some of the best television in this "golden age".
The characters are inconsistent, the plot veers left and right, up and down, and actual scares have become far and few. Not to mention the blood and gore has become pretty gratuitous.
The actors make that show. I'd love to see them work together on a much stronger project!
I knew someone was gonna cancel "The Good Place." I agree, season 3 is so/so.
O.o - The rare Roth Rant. Wasn't expecting that today :)
god i love when we get a little jte screen time lol
After dinner movie: Any comedy. Laughter makes the food go down easier
Spielberg-1942, Scorcese-The Last Temptation of Christ, Eastwood-J. Edgar, Tarantino-Death Proof, Lee-Crooklyn, Scott-Prometheus, Cameron-True Lies, Soderbergh-Haywire, Fincher-Alien 3
@@cteal2018 True Lies is garbage and is easily one of the worst films Arnold made in the 90's.
JTE made the whole episode worth it
I watched Beavis and Butthead when I was 8, and it's been one of my favorite cartoons ever since.
I'm with you Roth. I walked out of Convent pissed off and angry with Ridley Scott. I too hold Alien on a pedestal and it's as if he slapped it in its face. 😡
Good to see JTE! I hope youre all better dude.
17:20
"im like so tired my mind is like scrambled eggs"
*most apathetic, but compelled to comment* "oh no"
Francis Ford Coppola made a movie called Twixt with Elle Fanning & Val Kilmer
Amen, Dan! Darjeeling was Wes Anderson trying to do a Wes Anderson film. It was a slog to get through, especially that on the nose literal baggage metaphor.
For JTE go the last 5 minutes.
Dan about insecurities and emotions: (points to his heart) I'll keep all my emotions right here. Then one day I'll die.
I love that dan speaked German and said "verboten". His pronunciation is so cute:D
The Battle of The Five Armies (really the entire Hobbit trilogy but I will defend the first two) is my Aeon Flux. Peter Jackson got so royally fucked by the studios on that trilogy that I forgive (almost) everything that happened in those movies.
I couldn't even finish watching Alien: Covenant. I felt the characters were acting WAY too stupid for my taste. I put that movie right up there with TLJ, Predator 2018, Terminator Dark Fate, and Artemis Fowl.
Am I the only person who likes Jack? Haha
No. Darjeeling limited is amazing
Fan question, I watch a lot of movies with the director's commentary on after I've seen it the first time. What are some of the best movies that you have seen that benefits the most from a second viewing with a director's commentary on?
I totally agree about Covenant, I just didn't get the point of that movie. It was so disappointing. I love resurrection though 😋
Cancel "A Million Little Things," use the cast in a reboot of "Queer as Folk."
wait the director of Amelie directed alien ressurection??? WHAT? how is that a thing in this universe? i did not know that and im flabbergasted, so thank you Roth & SJU! thats why i watch
Watching The Godfather has become a sacred thanksgiving day tradition for my family
I’m with you Dan. Same rules in my household!
Anyone else out there weirdly enjoy that quiet sound after the intro music?
Oh leave Alien Covenant alone. You hate it because it is popular to hate it. I'm so tired of this idiotic trend
The Hateful 8. Urgh, it was so Tarantino-esque, that it got annoying.
I love how Roth's all 'The BET does not matter, because we are all going to be dead. The very world we live in will be DEAD.' So by her logic, there will be no Reboot of Star Wars. problem solved.
If you tell Joe something about an embargo-ed movie in private, and he goes and tells it publicly, are both of you now subject to repercussions?
I'm so with Dan on Covenant. I just love the Alien franchise so much, even though a lot of the in between movies were garbage. But Alien, Aliens, Prometheus & Covenant are awesome.
JTE is a gem. Never lose him.
Hy raely iss. Sorry i was agreeing with you in jte.
If the internet still exists in 2054, I'm totally here to see who wins this bet!
17:02 how does an embargo work, I don't know. Hey Joe how was that set visit to New Mutants! 😁
I'd go with The Counselor for Ridley's worst
My Jurassic World is Alien Covenant and my Alien Covenant is Jurassic World...
Bad News Bears (dir. Richard Linklater) would be my pick. Linklater is one of the best, most consistent directors working today IMO but that movie is a stinker.
My favourite Wes Anderson film is Moonrise Kingdom
JTE is the Patton of Black Friday
100% behind Roth on Alient Covenant!
That movie made me actually angry, not just disappointed. It was downright offensively stupid.
I want JTE's thoughts on embargoes. :)
Dear Spencer, watch the Assembly Cut.
I think Edgar Wright and Christopher Nolan are the only 2 directors I like that haven't made a movie that I disliked.
Yeah Even Quentin Tarantino made Death Proof. It was a good flick but as a Tarantino film, not so much
Cohen Bros would be "a director " that hasn't made a movie I hate.
Death Proof was a masterpiece compared to Hateful 8.
Interstellar is a mess.
Nolan is my favourite director. My least favourite movie from him is Interstellar. It's just a jumbled mess
Dark Knight rises is Nolan's worst. I second Denis V.
25:25 Uhm, they already have done that (Episode 7 = Episode 4 // Episode 8 = Mixture of Episodes 4&5)
How high is Spencer in this episode? Lol
This is the SJU dream team ❤
