Nice job! Booty full log and Mr. John Waites picture and why ......Kewl with K!
Absolutely beautiful. I have a bunch of big walnut trees on my property in Kansas. A couple are 28 inches in diameter.
@@darrenkastl8160 - Kewl is NOT a word.
That was beautiful. The longer I live the more I'm convinced of the greatness of God's artistry.
Yes. 👍
Well put, you can’t look at that log or fish a mountain stream and deny our creator.
@@boondocksaint621 YES YES, give him the glory guys. God is good to us ole sinners. I was cutting a big ole pine for lumber off my land yesterday leaving here in the next 15 to go buck it up, and before I dropped it I thanked God for the land and the trees. I alway thank our father for things he gives me, and I know far to well and good I don’t deserve any of it.
When I used to travel backroads north of T.O. (Toronto) in the late 1950’s, looking for derelict farms to photograph for my studies at Ryerson Photo Arts I heard of this farmer who, like many, had a fairly good sized pond in front of his farmhouse. It was getting a bit messed up with old equipment and all manner of other junk so he called in this guy with a backhoe, enough to clear the junk.
It didn’t take long for this contractor to find a large 36” diameter old log , totally waterlogged at the bottom of the muddy pond. After a bit of a struggle and a hefty steel chain he managed to drag it out into the farmyard. To their surprise they found two more which they soon realized were walnut, clean cut at both ends and revealing, even in that condition to be probably intentionally stored underwater by the previous farmer. The logs were ideal for veneer and fetched $26,500 from a veneer specialist who saw the potential profit in allowing the logs to naturally dry out and end up in the high end furniture market .
Ah the Waltons. Takes me back. We loved that show here in the UK almost as much as it was loved in the US, by my judgement anyway.
That last slab was the most amazing I have seen on this channel so far. I can only imagine a finished project sanded and oiled. Was like flames.
And I'd like to add my thanx for showing the fan photos for those of us who live too far away to have attended...
good deal, thank you for watching,
Love your videos, my man, God bless you and your family and the wonderful time you give all of us when you mill the logs. Many thanks, God bless.
You remind me of a professional diamond cutter studying the stone before the cutting! Love you videos!
Ahh the waltons. Back when television was good and family friendly unlike today
Yes. One of the reasons we don’t have cable
The Waltons’s TV show inspired you well! A lotto good memories I also have from that show.
John Walton, Sr. a hard working country boy with a real nice mill.
Wow, I’m blown away by the beauty of that third slab. It’s like a micro galaxy.
Indeed 😁👍
Walnut does not disappoint, even straight grain is beautiful.
everytime ,
Another gorgeous slab of walnut. That's gotta be so rewarding to pick out logs trying to imagine what's in them. Then you get to throw them on the wood mizer and see what's in there. Thanks for sharing with us.
thanks Drew appreciate you watching
Beautiful boards again Nathan and thats all down to you ! I’m glad you had a good day on Saturday, it looks like you met some good people. In memory of Ralph Waite, RIP. ❤️
thanks John,
Stunning piece of wood. Thanks for posting this.
Simply Beautiful Great work
thanks buddy, appreciate it,
Those are some stunning slabs .....
Love the way you illustrate everything
The anticipation....it's like Christmas morning as a lil kid
That is just stunning. Imagine having that last slab in your home, it’s a beautiful piece of wood.
Don’t suppose that you’ll be getting to Western Australia 🇦🇺 anytime soon but i would like to meet you Nathan. The Waltons was huge here in Australia in the day. I’m from a family of eight kids and the Waltons was a highlight of the week for us. 👍🏻
Marvin Gardens Good Night Marvin 😁💤
never thought about you having us visitors on the video.nice surprise.the walnuts are always nice to look at.
👍
An amazing log. What a tremendous creation! GOD is so good!
agreed
Black walnut gold that is some beautiful wood. That was a spectacular log.
thanks Craig, appreciate you watching!
Black Walnut is the absolute best wood to work with. It's beauty never disappoints.
European burr veneer is awesome
The way the grain swirls around the knots looks like Jupiter and it’s storms.
Yes! I saw the same thing.
And I was seeing...NEBULAE!!! Glad someone else saw 'celestial'!
Jupiter
This is an amazing channel. Loving the hidden beauty.. imagine that!
Rich and deep colour, beautiful slabs!
Beautiful slab and beautiful music, well done, don
thank you,
Boy, this guy is awesome. I would however love to see a finished piece of furniture using these gorgeous walnut slabs. To see the hidden beauty shine. As always professional, personable and informative.
Wow! Some absolutely outstanding, amazing looking slabs Nathan. You were SO right about this log & the care you displayed in searching out the best way to slab it was absolutely TOP CLASS. I do love the thought that you put into sawing each log you put on the mill. It certainly was an 'amazing walnut' as you predicted, pity I am 5 years behind but I am slowly getting there since I fortunately stumbled across your site & thought 'who is this scruffy looking guy'. Great video mate, thanks for sharing. Cheers, Don from South Australia.
thanks Don
That last slab is a dream come to life, thanks for sharing it with us
thanks for watching,
I had the same feeling about the sawmill influence. John Walton! Alas I never did do that in my life but still liked those scenes in the mill. It was and still is a terrific show for all ages. Great video. Thank You from Canada.
thanks, appreciate you watching,
You are so blessed to have a life like this, thank you for sharing.
thanks for watching
thanks for watching,
I love working with metal, though the beauty of each unique slab of wood never ceases to amaze me.
Man that was so satisfying to watch. Thanks for sharing...
thanks for watching
Unsure which I enjoy more...the craftsmanship or the music. Either way, thanks so much for sharing!
Beautiful. Thanks.
Thanks for watching
Another brilliant video with fantastic logs and terrific music. Keep 'em coming - I could watch these all day!
I'm surfing thru' the net. And I find you. What a find. I love your accent and "spending a whole weekend think about a log". I'm now thinking about it too. Keep it up. Such enthusiasm. Greetings from London, UK.
Thanks. Appreciate you watching
What a magnificent grain! Nature is truly splendid. Just looking at this living tree full of such beauty refreshes the soul. When it becomes a table, the soul of this tree will live with us for a very long time. Thank you for sharing!
Listen to the song "Morningside" by Neil Diamond, and everything else falls into place.......
@@davelindstrom6005 Yes, just heard it. Sad like life.
@@lass-inangeles7564 "And with his hands he carved these words inside: For my children......."
Those are really magnificent slabs!! Nature is a hell of an artist.
Agreed 👍
Wow gorgeous slabs, thanks for sharing. God bless
Growing up at my parents home in Northern Indiana they had several black walnut trees in their yard and one of my chores as a real young lad was picking up walnuts in the fall. I absolutely hated those trees (the largest one was 36"+ in diameter). But as I've gotten older (38) I have come to love them and largely in part to your channel, never judge a book by its cover!
Good deal. Thank you for watching
Beautiful choice!
Wow. True art. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
I enjoy your videos and I learn a little about cutting logs. I have always just cut them for fire wood, not for resale. Keep making them, please.
will do thanks for watching,
Please follow with vids of craftsman taking your gorgeous slabs and making gun stocks out of them. It gives the 360 degree profile of this beautiful wood!
You are allowed to say each time. "This is the best ever" This one was right up there. Nice!
Thanks buddy 👍👍
That is some extra special slabs there, Nathan! You keep going like this and you may as well be slicing GOLD!😳👍🏻👍🏻
thanks buddy,
BEAUTIFUL
I was wondering if you could show some tables or furniture that has been made out of the logs you cut? You have some very nice slabs there and I would like to see the finished product. 😊
That's what I want to see. From the mill to the house.
Dat slab tho. So glad I found this channel. Cheers Brother.
Welcome aboard!
Just when you think it doesn't get any better! Addicted GEORGIA BOY
thanks buddy,
Amazingly beautiful brother.
Thank you
I honestly don't have a clue about what is going on but I'm hooked on your channel... I absolutely love watching these before bed. And the mama cat supervising is the best. I love her. Thanks.
thanks, appreciate you watching,
Absolutley fantastic!!!! WOW....Not much more to say. Takes my breath away!! I only wish I that I had a similar mill and could have Christmas every day I open up a crappy old log just to find a golden present as you do.. Thanks for sharing...I am so envious.. Rick
Nice saw horses. You got a good friend there.
agreed,
What a beautiful amazing bunch of slabs... my golly... the things I saw in that wood.. one was a big ol' elephant with tusks even.. !
😁😁👍
Good stuff ,thanks for sharing! Things like this make me look at my walnut trees in the whole different light
Thanks for watching
You couldn't ask for a better influence then John Walton.
Amen to that brother. He dealt some good advice to me when i was growing up.
Nathan, you truly have the "magic" in you. Those slabs are just outstanding.
Very good was great meeting you at Inventor center Saturday. Made it into Freds video, Wife is the blonde walking through center!...Cant wait to see the Apple!....Thanks again!

Wow,wow and wow, just love your videos, the walnut is my favorite, everytime you go to saw walnut slabs,I get so excited to see what it looks like. And so far I've not been disappointed.Keep up the good work, good luck on selling your saw,and getting you a bigger one.
Stunning
Stunning!
Absolutely Breathtaking, I took pictures of the cuts - had to show my mom. 👁 🍬
good eye for logs sir .great looking wood ..thats going to look awesome in whatever its turned into
Thanks 👍👍
I'd take those first 2 slabs and after being kiln dried I'd make them into an epoxy dining table. I'd definitely show off the live edge and the knots. Those 2 pieces are gorgeous. Keep up the great work
thanks, appreciate you watching,
Definitely a great log! Glad you shared. Will try to figure a trip your way this year.
Thanks Kevin. Appreciate it
Oh my that is gorgeous!
Absolutely a stunner.
Thanks Lynn. Appreciate you watching
That last piece, man I would give anything to get an O/U shotgun with that dark wood and pattern..... BEAUTIFUL!!
That is the best wood I have seen. That will be hard to beat.
indeed hope to finish up that log today,
thanks for watching!
Great looking Walnut
That figure is wild on that second and third slice! That knot hole can be used for cable routing on a desk or if one were to attach a sunken bottom 'cup' sort of thing on it it could be a pen/pencil holder. Great pictures of the meet and greet! #KeepTheChipFlying, Nathan!
Thanks buddy 👍👍
@@OutoftheWoods0623 You're more than welcome, Nathan! Thank you for the fabulous content. Incredible!
Beautiful. You have a great job.
yes very grateful here also,
That's beautiful
agreed
when you come through the Atlanta area, bring a slab or 2 of walnut to the east side...i'll trade you a section of a cherry tree that fell on my house about a year ago...you can slab it up in the Woodmizer before you sell it off😉😉😉
Hi. Haven't come across your channel until today and the title intrigued me. When you started cutting the slabs from the log I was amazed at the stunning patterns that nature has given us. I like the way you explain your thoughts and the tone of your voice and your accent make for easy listening. Thank you for sharing, it will be interesting to see what is made from the slabs that you cut. Keep doing what you do.
Walnut is definitely my favorite slab.
Really tuff to beat that slab with any other kind of wood.... There's always someone who will always try and up one on that. Gold is Gold.
your musical score is excellent
Thanks 👍👍
Beautiful wood, I love your videos. I ask my self why a 66 year old woman is watching you slab wood video after video. I can't help it. I am just addicted. LOL!
Wow...stunning.
Thanks for watching
Nathan, have you ever had a shot of what you do with the controls as you start and run through the log? You had a short shot this time setting the cut depth, but I would find it interesting to see what all you do through the cut.
Yeah, I would like to see that too. I am curious how much is automated. Like after 1st slab, will it go down that same width again on its own? is it smart enough not run into its own log retainers if they are set too high?
Good deal. I’ll do that. Appreciate the feedback
Yup super amazing.
John Walton. I always liked the sawmill scenes in The Waltons.
Beautiful walnut as always. Cant wait to see the new mill. I may be headed that way myself.
I''m an hour Northeast of Atlanta. I enjoy your videos. But I'm sitting here ready to cry thinking what a beautiful gun stock that would make.
Great looking slabs !!!!!!!
thanks smithy,
Beautiful wood
These slabs are my favorite so far, I love the dark woods and the patterns were awesome. thanks for sharing. : ) peace
thanks for watching!!
Beautiful beautiful wood 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏼

You're killing it with these walnut pieces!!👍🔥
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful wood.
I live about 20 minutes north of Atlanta. A meet up would awesome. I don't know if you have ever heard our morning traffic is no joke.
Yeah been through these. Few times. No fun
